No worries tf I have admitted I’m a meter hoarder, no offense taken buddy. I actually only used lp palm vs akuma because I don’t value ending combos with sweep because I don’t know how to beat teleport, does a mp palm catch him? I need to figure a lot of stuff out vs akuma, its my worst matchup I think.
About the fadc mixup, yep after a close st.mp I can be reversalled out of my throw or counter hittrap, but when you do fadc you telegraph your move with 20+ frames where gouken flashes yellow and that’s why its easy to react to. I think its worth niting that goukens comeback potential which is tied to his stun potential is intrinsically linked to his ability to spend his meter on beefy fadc combos. So if u spend your meter on other stuff you actually neuter your character. Meter also bolsters his defence since you need it for anti airs and kongo cancelling.
Mp kongo works vs all chicken wings, high kongo is beaten at some angles
i uinderstand yuor points mullah , however having the safest gouken on paper and operating within certain confines or only doing whats safest i think makes one more predictable since your repetoire would be using only “x” as your options , while keeping an open mind to other choices means you will have choices including “x+y” to pick from…
ive worked my local norcal pros before with flip kick to backthrow and had them mixed up pretty well, we all know that shit aint safe , but we all do it…so its a matter of style and efficacy with his given moveset…to limit yourself to only whats safest is the true hinderance here …again its a differnce of philosophies and or opinion
No no ur totally correct, I’m trying to streamline and perfect the safest and most damaging method to play gouken, however I do personally sometimes do things that aren’t the best option on paper. But because not many people seem to understand how to actually use gouken effectively at all, I try to explain his fundamental strengths when I post here. I know 99% of people haven’t got a solid foundation for the character because with my old main I never lost to a gouken as far as I can remember, and I don’t think blanka is a bad matchup at all, I haven’t yet lost to a blanka since I started using gouken.
Crouching or crouching and attacking? Most characters get hit crouching, just not while crouch attacking. Anyway, yum c.lk def goes under it. No good for his follow up after ex lunge.
Thanks for the info on chicken wing. I had resorted to ex Kongo for that.
EDIT: I also discovered you can no longer kongo Guile’s Ultra 2 and win. You get hit for everything if you do that. In super you could Kongo it and if you kongo’d the first hit it would all dissipate.
im interested in seeing you play so ive started following your replays , havent seen any yet as i havent been on in a second, lets try to stay top at the 10 gouken eh? good luck looking forward to seeing your safe play
Has anyone else attempted this? When tossing fireballs at the twins, if they eat the fireball with their palm you can palm them in the face? I’ve done it to two different people using the twins, I’m not sure if they are retarded or Gouken wanted to play pattycake up close and the twins just couldn’t hang.
Does this work for real (i.e. do they actually get hit in their recovery frames) or were they trying to jump or something? Someone test please, I’m sure one of you Gouken users will run into a Yun or Yang tonight
I figrd cnxn issues would hold us back , maybe follow my replays as well since I’m following yours, maybe ill start a new thread for these discussions???
So, saw your cody match…I d0nt like strict zone only but I want to see when and where it works…because I feel I need to see all approaches.
I’m trying to figure why you and other gouken will wait and build 4 bars for a 2nd rd kongo>super finish when your opp only has 15-20% health as you did in this 2nd rd? Is there any reason you don’t want bars for 3rds etc?
Appreciate your input…thx
yep will follow you guys too when i next hop on! we should start a general chit chat thread where we can just voice random stuff about gouken.
i spent all my meter because it would end the round. in that situation my kongo was a match winner so the risk reward was better than normal. he had put me in block and did a harder to react to neutral jump which made me think it was morel ikely he’d attack, i also hadn’t used kongo in the match so he he had no reason to try and bait it, so i knew it was worth it. if i had just done ex tatsu i would have probably lost as i had no health and all he needed to do was a random ruffian kick and i would probably have walked into it. going into the 3rd with no meter isn’t great, but i felt it was the only way to get the a 3rd round. i’ll usually only use kongo if i have full super and i’ll do it even without it ending the round just because its a decent risk reward if i pick a realy juicy time to kodo it.
same for cl. st. lp, cl st. mk xx lp palm. it always hit crouchers too.
I’m almost sure you can link cr. lp, st. lp, cl.st. mk xx lp palm for our very desirable hit confirm, but I thought about it later and was far away from the console. please someone try?
Ok, so doing senku/palm after you toss a fireball will hit the twins if the palm absorb. I did it again today. If the twins are dodging fireballs with neutral jump and then the lk dive, this will stuff that nonsense as well.
If your at the end of the round and need to kill someone who is neutral jumping you can toss a ball and fadc and dash forward and ex tatsu them before they land. Expensive meter wise but if it gets the win who cares right?
I haven’t tested this but if you do a meaty c.lk xx lp palm I’m pretty sure you are safe enough to counter the inevitable low attack with a low Kongo as well.
lol, that is not very safe man. Akuma gets jab into tatsu into whatever. ken gets jab into whatever, same for ryu. basically most characters get something.
Are you talking about what I said? C.lk xx lp.palm leaves you out of range of Akuma’s c.mk, only thing thatbwill reach is his c.hk, and that is blockable/counterable.
Maybe this is old news, but pretty sure cl.mp>cr.mp xx lk. tatsu hit when I tried it in training mode last wednesday, but I forgot who it was I had as the dummy. Timing is tight.
EX Palm FADC dj.mk cross under is possible for reset to cr.f xx ex palm again or cr.f xx demon flip do your worst or even kongo. I don’t think I could get the cross under to work before with mk, just the hk.
I’m in love with j.mk, s.mp, cr.lk, hk tatsu, really easy to link, you can easily hit confirm if crouched and go for s.mp, cr.hk instead for untecheable knockdown, and if standing it does 297 damage, and can be ultra1 fadc for 460 damage, or if you’re willing to waste meter or look flashy, fadc into another hk tatsu for 350.
