What have you discovered with Gouken in AE?

I’m sure everyone know about this but standing close MP links to far MP or c.HP (or anything really) VERY easily.

Also, in the corner, j.hk, close standing mp, c.HP, l fb, c.lk , ex tatsu actually combos on some character. Still, ex palm probably still more useful and more damaging but it is interesting how I can’t do that before.

Also. standing close mp and c.lk no longer link, the push back is too much to connect pretty much all the time. Still, c.hk is probably better anyway

I tried cl.mp -> cl.lk, and cl.mp -> cr.lk. Both linked just fine. Was even able to go into lk tatsu from the cr.lk vs Cammy. Did you mean something else?

Cl. HK linked to cr. LK Into heavy tatsu FADCed into shinsho works from anywhere. However, the best way I’ve seen to land U1 in a combo is crossup mk, close standing mp, crouching lk into heavy tatsu FADC shinsho. I’ll be using this alot. Love it. Also another nifty combo in the corner is jump in cl mp, lp fireball, cl mk, lp palm. Looks sweet.

Also something interesting. Cl.mp on block puts gouken in perfect range for Kara throw with heavy kick. It’s awesome.

Er, cl.HK>c.LK xx Tatsu does not work, not even EX. Both Tatsus whiff after c.LK link. Have you actually done this?

Ok. I’ll say it again. Cl.hk linked to cr.lk -->hk.tatsu works from anywhere. Only the first hit of the hk.tatsu hits, allowing a FADC into ultra. Yes. I did it several times.

I did his combo on ryu in training mode.

Also. In corner: close standing mp into fireball to another cl mp fireball into sweep works.

Ya sorry… I just did Jump HK, cl.HK>cr.lk xx tatsu … Midscreen only first hit connects like you said. But EX connects full. In the corner, normal tatsu connects fully. BUT-- this works only after a jump in to cl.HK. If you do standalone cl.HK > cr.LK, the Tatsu whiffs, even in corner. Can you verify this?

Also in corner:
cl.MP xx lp.FB > cr.MP xx Tatsu
cl.HP xx lp.FB > cr.MP xx EX Tatsu connects fully. normal tatsu only 1st hit connects- so can FADC into ultra

Still works without a jump in. Be careful of the negative edge of the cr light kick. Very easy for a lk tatsu to come out even though you meant the hk version. Also that last combo you stated. Can’t get the dj hk to hit after a lp palm. I think I did it once by mistake but I have no idea of what the timing is.

As soon as you do the lp. palm, hold up-forward and hit HK after Gouken jumps- you should slam the opponent to the ground. Its kinda like trying to do Seth’s footstomps in the corner, just without the down input.

As for the the tatsu combo, I do cl.HK and do the cr.LK link cancelled into Tatsu, but it whiffs and it shows 3 hit combo. I am sure its not the negative edge because I tried EX tatsu too. I mean if the cr.LK linked properly then the Tatsu should hit the opponent, yes? Is there something like late cancelling and early cancelling? if so, am I late cancelling it? I don’t think that should be the reason because its not like cr.LK has so many active frames. Any thoughts?

cr.LK has 4 active frames. It is absolutely possible for you to late cancel it (heck, even 3 active frame ones can be cancelled late giving you different results). Which character did you test it on? I’m sure it will connect fully on some characters.

Alright I got the cl.HK > cr.LK xx HK Tatsu combo to work but it is character specific. I tried multiple times on Hakan and Yun dummies (I just felt like beating up Yun :D) initially and this combo did not work on them.

So I went ahead and made a list–

Tatsu whiffs: Hakan, Yun, Yang, Ken, Akuma, Chun-li, Oni, Cammy, Fei-Long, Dan, Sakura, Rose

Tatsu first hit only: Ryu, E.Ryu, Ibuki, Makoto, Dudley, Seth, Gouken, Gen, Zangief, Sagat, M.Bison, Abel, Rufus, Balrog, Dhalsim, Vega, Guy, Cody, Viper, Deejay, Adon, Fuerte

Tatsu full hit: Honda, T.Hawk

cl.HK to cr.LK does not link: Guile (cr.LK whiffs), Juri (cr.LK blocked)

cr.LK links, but Tatsu blocked: Blanka (He’s wonky as always!)

Please try out and post any corrections. I might have messeed up.

Neither because its easy to tech and mashers will reversal you, and its a waste of meter. You know how I love my safe decisions TF!

Anyway I found out yun gets hit by hurricane kick whilst crouching. His crmlk probably ducks under it, but its worth bearing in mind

sorry i hit random select on dummy. kongo fadc mp dash punch doesn’t work on everyone. so far it has worked on gief and honda for me, but not shotos. havent gone through the whole cast yet.

the english have their own style ;)…mix in kara throw ;…in good mix up presure they never see it coming…i dont think anyone here uses it…i do …try what works for you…

folks seen their fisrt vids of me and at first were like “oh flight wreckless demon flips…” blah blah blah…in ae he is all about the safe dive kick and flip mixups since no one knows how to deal with the absence of J palm and it seems to have crippled many mainers offenses …i never relied on that cl fierce> fadc or fadc> j palm from super so many hoarded metere for …(not you mullah) ive always played gouken like vanilla acting like he always had the overheazd property on his kick still…stay right on top of your opponent when applicable , if cl mp fadc thrw works in your mixup presh game then cl hk fadc throw will also work!!! have fun mang !

walking forward isnt SAFE either since you can be hit while not blocking and moving towards your opponent and not in a defensive crouch state…dont be a scared gouken …you may end up using someone else in the next version of SF…

i personally feel using 3 bars for an expalm >fadc>jmp>jmp> ultra is and always will be the biggest waste of an ultra and bars because of the scaling…so go figure
