Oh wait, I must’ve been thinking of the wrong move then. My bad.
I think that’s the main reason.
I choose my FG characters based on aesthetic and thematic considerations, but it seems most somewhat serious players I know choose their characters based on difficulty : reward ratios. So lots of Ragnas and few Valks.
Having said that, I do see a lot of Hazamas online, and (in my experience, at least) he’s super tricky to get down. Maybe it’s just cuz he’s so badass.
EDIT: Oops, Airk already said all this, basically.
As for Platinum not having any fighting abilities: She’s one of the six heroes who defeated the black beast, so I guess she’s alright, strength-wise.
I was watching some BB videos, and a video titled “Ragna is cheap” was in the suggested videos area.
I clicked on the guy’s channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBlueMario) and he had three “X character is cheap” videos. Those three being for Tager, Noel, and Ragna.
Reminded me of the post I made on the 8th page of this thread (the whole “Cheap character is cheap” part is referring to Ragna)
But the ponytail man, think about the ponytail; and the suit. Classy yet strong? Heck yes.
Beast cannon is so good for meter build though, but I agree that it looks lame. Since Valky is already stealing a few of Hakumen’s special moves (as proven by my aforementioned post) might as well give him his own version of Zantetsu.
Make it so that he raises his leg and drops it down on their head, then goes in for a sweep kick. And then, to make it complete, make it a completely inferior version of Zantetsu in terms of damage, start-up, proration, etc.
That way Arcsys would be consistent with their little pattern and I’d get a cool new special move.
I thought Trinity was one of the 6 heroes, not Platinum (and yes, I understand the whole 3 people in 1 body situation). Platinum is pretty free in the story if I recall correctly.
Sure. His visual design in general is great, I was really hype for him. Then I saw his moves and I went to sleep. They’re all either forgettable or outright silly looking.
“Platinum… The Trinity”
I’m starting to lose my shit over all the characters I want to play well with (i.e. not just mash ice car).
I’m already OK with Lambda/Nu, I’m decent with Tsubaki, and I’ve now got a scrubtastic Noel. But I want to also use Jin, Bullet (b/c of her track), Hazama, Relius, and Izayoi among the known playable cast. If Jubei and/or Kokonoe are ever playable, then I’ll have to pick them up, too.
Stupid game.
I know your pain, I had the same problem on SF4. Luckily not on this game.
I can finally say I’m no longer free with Makoto. And currently I’m working to get my Hazama to a decent level.
I tried my luck with Noel and actually did well with her (2D/4D spam all day err day lol) but there was just something that didn’t feel right. I tried playing with Ragna, Jin and Relius but gave them the finger for the same reason.
Looking to pick up Bullet and maybe Azrael (dat Kamina palette). Bullet looks like fun to play. I’ve always had a thing for character that are just about solid fundamentals and are really straight forward.
And it would be a crime on ASW’s part to not have Jubei playable in the next BB
Just in case I was in danger of picking up a character who was actually good, seems like Izayoi is currently in strong contention for “worst character in CP”. FFS. How do I DO this?
SSF4: Guy
BBCS: Tsubaki
P4A: Akihiko
BBCP: okay, fine, Tsubaki might not suck, but I’m also interested in Izayoi…
-_-
It’s weird in that I was thinking of secondary-ing Bullet, but apparently she doesn’t have that many different combos or ways to do damage, which is weird. I mean, I COULD try Azrael, but I feel like literally EVERYBODY is going to be trying him.
Bullet looks like the most boring character in the history of BB, in addition to being a really dubious character design from an aesthetic standpoint. x.x
Not sure what they were going for with her, but as far as I’m concerned, they totally missed it. Even the “heat up” effect from her drive just looks like an ugly orange smudge. Yuk.
Arakune mains never realize how fucking annoying it is to fight their character. >:(
I win.
AE2012: Yang
BBCSEX: Makoto
BBCP: Makoto still ranked as the worst in the game, Bullet also being lowtier. I’ll be spending alot more time with those 2 than Hazama or Azrael.
P4A: Stay free Europe.
But I couldn’t care less about how good my character is. I feel like anyone can beat anyone as long as you got the skills to make your character work. My furrygod Goro has shown me that.
Although I will say the Lambda-Bullet matchup almost has me crying.
I can understand why people call Bullet boring. To me she looks like a character that’s fun to play but boring to watch.
I think with Bullet they were going for a quicker strike-based grappler that could move around and stuff. For whatever reason, I pictured her to be their take on like a Blazblue equivalent of a female Clark Still.
I like the CONCEPT of a light grappler, but as far as I can tell, Bullet doesn’t really grapple, she just does a bunch of moves that look like throws if they hit but are actually completely blockable, and that, to me, is kinda dumb.
Akihiko isn’t that bad.
He’s at least decidedly better than the other characters you listed.
I dunno; I mean, he has good damage, but almost everyone in P4A has good damage. His range is terrible, and he doesn’t have anything like Chie’s options to compensate. Plus, his worst matchup is probably Mitsuru, who is the character that makes up like 60% of all tournaments.
I think Akihiko’s about mid-tier and is either the next character down or just after Yosuke if you go down from the “Top 5” of Chie/Mitsuru/Narukami/Teddie/Aigis. Though, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong about that, Lythi. I do agree that his range isn’t his strong point, but he can certainly have a strong damage output when used right, I feel.
While that’s true, I think you’re neglecting how fast his normals are (even if they’re stubby) and what he can get off them compared to the rest of the cast. He sneezes and 8k pops out. I’d say that Akihiko’s flaws are that he has to play risky sometimes to get in and his mixup is not the greatest, but his neutral is decent so he’s not as bad as some of the “bad” characters. I’d at least put him on par with Yosuke. Mitsuru match-up is suffering, but that’s the case for a lot of characters, haha.
Anyway, not trying to derail this thread, so… I guess I’m tired of all the Hazama players? I can take solace in the fact that he’s the butt of so many jokes in CP.
I personally think that Naoto’s a worse match for Akihiko. Anyway, my pet peeve for BB is hitbox nonsense. I remember I was fighting a Lambda, she did Legion Sword and I jumped, but apparently the tip of my shoe is a hitbox as well.
I think I’ve grown apathetic to Hazama and Tao being Top Tier. It’s weird but, to me it’s seemed that like it’s always been that way, and is always going to be that way, but it doesn’t seem overly “WTF?” like CS1 Bang and Litchi were. I’m trying to figure out what to think on Carl/Relius/Mu’s placings personally.
If a vast majority of people mained Tao (perhaps the equivalent of Ragna mains in Extend), we’d all be screwed.
She is so god damn annoying, it’s just that nobody really cares because she is so under-used.
