What grinds your gears in BB?

My point stands. Don’t say stupid ---- that makes good games look bad. seriously. How many times do we need to cut our own feet off before we starting thinking “Gee, maybe we should stop ‘joking’ by crapping all over our games?”

Yeah, I get that it was a harmless joke and not meant to be taken personally or to heart and that this is coming from someone who’s probably known to go on impassioned rambles about trying to unify communities and supporting the games, etc, but if we don’t stand up for our games, nobody else is going to.

I still don’t understand why people are that upset with the sexualization of females in games.
Why wouldn’t you want the females to be attractive? If anything, it gives me more reason to give them a try.
And why don’t people complain about the halfnaked men? Urien’s diaper is even more uncalled for than Makoto’s outfit if you ask me.

People complain about the smallest things these days.

Attractive and that Makoto screenshot I posted are not the same thing.

Izayoi is attractive.

Makoto’s official art is embarassing and ridiculously exaggerated. Her boobs are bigger than her head.

Is it really THAT hard to grasp that there are degrees of these things and that there’s a difference between “I don’t want half the women in the game to be wearing something that would make a bikini model blush, with the proportions of a blowup doll” and “I don’t want the women in the game to be attractive”

Give Urien a massive package and THEN you are talking about something comparable.

My post wasn’t aimed towards you, I meant in general. And since the topic was at hand I decided to speak my mind.
While I still don’t get how something as irrelevant as a character select portrait/ art bothers anyone I can see where you’re coming from with that Makoto picture being a bit too much.

FYI there are people complaining about Izayoi’s looks and I know there are people who don’t play the game because of Mu, Lambda, Litchi etc. Those are the people I meant with my post. That is just beyond retarded and I just can’t understand it.

It’s all about your personal comfort zone. Some people would argue that a game like Duke Nukem Forever is sexist and offending while others may claim that everything is parody and should be taken as such.

In my case, the overly sexualized female characters may have to do with me in general not liking BB as much as GG or P4A for example. I still play it because it’s fun, but it will probably never be my favorite game. The first way you judge something is by its looks and in BlazBlue’s case I can see why people are driven away from the game by the characters you listed. To give you another example: I think Arcana Heart suffers from the same syndrome.

That may be the case, but when you consider things such as Mai Shiranui(sp?), and King’s clothes getting blown off when she loses in KOF, people don’t complain about that. I can understand that it may be about comfort levels and insecurities, but I think people should initially judge a game by it’s playstyle, how the characters themselves play, and the actual fighting engine somewhat.

Niggas gettin bent outta shape over some titties, gotdamn.

I’m actually surprised there hasn’t been like a “that seems kinda gay” comment.

The reason people don’t typically notice or find a problem with the objectification women is that we’re trained by culture to accept it as normal. That’s why it’s important to point out that it’s not really okay, and that it does contribute significantly to an overarching system of patriarchal domination in which the feminine term is always inferior.

There are select exceptions to this inferiority, but they’re instances of “correct” resistance–that is to say, they’re exceptions that, while they apparently challenge the status quo, actually legitimize it by dint of participation and have been accepted as a piece of the larger cultural machinery.

And the reason why Urien isn’t the same as Makoto is that, since it’s in charge, the dominant, masculine term can move freely in and out of positions of relative superiority and inferiority (here, objectification & nakedness). The fact that this opportunity for motion exists doesn’t nullify the system of domination. It’s like a rich yuppy “slumming it” for an afternoon–still driving home in a BMW.

I’d really prefer not to get into something like this as I’ve always personally felt that feminism is sexism in and of itself and thought we should work towards an approach and set of beliefs closer to equalism. However, that being said, I think this is kind of getting off topic from the source material of Blazblue at this point in time.

I don’t bash on Persona, but I honestly just don’t like it as a competitive fighter. There are multiple factors that cause me to feel that way. It’s not a bad game by any means, and I do enjoy playing it. Just not on a competitive level like I do with Blazblue.

Fair enough.

And I do have a new gear-grinder in BB: I don’t live near an arcade anymore, so I won’t get Chrono Phantasma until it comes to PS3 in the summer. :frowning:

God I can’t wait to get Nu back!

how can you complain about the characters and art.
that’s what the game is. that’s the look and style.

i mean go ahead complain but the people who enjoy it have different tastes than you.
shocking i know.

Blazblue is the by far best looking FG I ever played. Don’t know how one can have gripes with that.
E: Though yes, the char design is … questionable

I only am pissed at the obvious things, like a new fullprice version every 2 weeks…

I totally feel you on the whole “not living near an arcade” thing. We don’t even really HAVE arcades here. And well…I’m not even sure if a Blazblue scene exists. I tried to find one a couple of years ago and it was me and 1 person along with sometimes his roomate, with that only lasting a few get-togethers.

If it makes you guys feel any better you can be happy you don’t live in Europe like myself.

You actually know you’ll be playing the game next summer.
If we’re lucky, Europe will get the game december next year. Worst case scenario: summer of 2014.
We still don’t even have a release date for Persona. I’m still so salty about that.

Thanks Zen United for being such a fantastic publisher and thanks Atlus for still letting them publish your game, even though the first Blazblue came out a YEAR(!!) late in Europe.

/salt

Yeah, I remember hearing about that. Didn’t Australia actually get it before you guys?

Another one of these simpleminded “oh, you guys object to the direction the game is taking, therefore…” posts. I mean seriously, do you people think about what you write? Yes, the game is the look and the style. And the look and the style in CP involves more absurdly overlarge breasts than ever before. So we’re just supposed to nod and say “Yup, that’s the look and style alright”. (P.S. The game also involves gameplay.)

I LIKE the “look and style”. I DON’T like the fact that suddenly, Makoto’s boobs are bigger than her head in her character portrait. These two things are not mutually exclusive, and pretending that they are makes you sound ridiculous.

Ugh. Sorry to be so rude, but the long series of these posts that pick out one aspect of the problem and act as though we should just accept the whole package is becoming absurd.

Not sure when Australia got BB. I do know they are also still waiting for P4A.
I’ve only got into BB recently so I didn’t have to endure this waiting bullshit before, but I was shocked when I found out how Europe was being treated.

I’m not even going to bother buying Persona, because I simply refuse to give my money to people who treat me like this. The same reason I’m not giving my money to Capcom anymore.
But at the same time Blazblue is one of the few games I actually enjoy playing nowadays. Comparing this with the other fighting games I have played this one clicks the most and has everything I look for in a fighter.
Guess I’m going to have to swallow my pride since I don’t want to miss out on CP.
