What Ever Happen to A3?!?!

I mean, does anyone ever play it still?

Do People even like it? I find it to be one of my favorite games. I miss all the talk of rivalries and such… I wish they would add it back into the lineup for Evo2k5

Good question! I used to terrorize people in that game. I can’t find that game anywhere, anymore.

People lost interest…sniff…

There are few arcades now and A3 isn’t new so it’s probably even harder to find. There isn’t any accurate console version either.

I know I’d probably start playing sf games again if it were added to Evo. I would just get a stick for my pc and play on an emulator or mod the xbox to practice on that. Still, Evo is about new games whether they suck or not. They don’t care how good the game is. Staff claims to like A3 more than most but, the criteria for Evo entry would be popularity. They don’t seem to realize that adding it to Evo would encourage popularity. Either that or you can blame A3’s absense on me. I think it’s a good idea to bring some respect back to the scene(look at these boards. It’s dying. Hello?). But I’m quite sure that as long as I speak on this, it will never happen. I would need to start dissing on A3 and Tragic would have to say it was a good idea for it to ever be include again, lol.

You’re more likely to see CFJ(even though staff and the Japanese think it’s very poor) and SSBM at Evo. It isn’t about quality or the image of the scene. Fighters are just like any other videogames now. What’s new and popular is what’s important. Quantity over quality. Of course, we’re told otherwise but without any legitimate explanation.

Apoc.

A3 = Best SF ever.

Good post.

Then just follow through. Get 60+ people together for an A3 tournament and they’ll bring it back, just as they said they would. Prove that the people will play it and they’ll bring it back.

It’s not the simple, A3 for one is an insanely deep game, when they had US vs Japan A3 at the last evo it was ever played I practiced regularly against Apoc and Danny Leong, needless to say no matter how much they taught me and how much we played I got my ass handed to me game after game.

What was interesting though was I still improved a ton but there was so much I didn’t know about the game that kept killing me. A3 you can’t really just pick up and play unlike most games out today, if you look at the scene back then you’d see the consistent winners in all SF games pretty much stayed the same, in games today like Marvel and Cvs2 there is constant new players on the rise every year at evo. Not saying they aren’t skillful or complex themselves but there is less to know regarding hit boxes and priorities.

Also most of the community as demonstrated by the hate on CFJ wants things flashy and new, and well alpha isn’t really either of those save V-ism combos.

And the circular argument continues.

A3 isn’t on Evo because not enough people play it.
Not enough people play it because if it’s not on Evo, it isn’t a competitive enough game to make it worth playing.

Now add a pinch of “no arcade perfect” port argument… viola…

Evo is not about new games because ST is still being played. And TTT is also quite old yet it is still in the tourney.

I’d say those are there mainly because they are the solid classics that really started it all, iirc the tekken series pretty much hit its peak with TTT generating all kinds of interest just as much as ST generated most of the SF communities interests.

I know University Pinball in Philadelphia used to have that game last year. On weekends, it was pretty popular (especially, if I was beasting people in it).

Every tournament we had, the game never got more that 14 people to play.

Now, the game is just a good memory.

Evo has other ‘unpopular’ fighters in its line-up so the arguments are.

It’s too old(3S is only one year newer than SFA3)

Not many SFA3 machines around(Not many VF4 and SC2 machines around)

No 99% accurate console port(Probably the only valid reason, although it seems no one has the saturn port to test it out on???)

Emulated SFA3 at EVO opens up legal problems(Only in America)

EVO organisers believe that the players themselves should prove demand and that EVO will get a return on the investment of setting up SFA3 at EVO. (I don’t see VF4 or SC2 having to prove shit)

I waz interested in Alpha 3, but i know its a difficult game to learn. I dont know much about it altho i’ve played it, but wats the big deal if they have A3 at evo? I mean will they lose that much money on a Alpha 3 CD, maybe im not understanding fully but little by little members of SRK will stop coming. Once they have nothing to talk about regarding their favorite game they will have nothing to talk about. For example lets say the only fighter i play is marvel but marvel is dead. Im i really gonna come back to SRK when the game isnt played seriously at EVO i mean honestly thats why most ppl on SRK play fighters so they can test their skillz at EVO, otherwise all the skillz they have will be wasted on a cpu. IDK man thats my opinion on this matter…

Best SF ever. And fun to watch, assuming you know what the fuck is going on- I’m sure Zangief randomly flying across the screen and SPDing people looks crazy if you’re not familiar with the game.

SFA3 is cool. Except that v-ism (A dhalsim or whatever) becomes a dominating strategy and like whoever said in some other thread–people keep jostling for position so that they can activate it and do all this mad damage.

I always thought that A3 for the Dreamcast was pretty much arcade perfect.

No offense but, you clearly don’t much about A3. In A3 you get your ass uppercutted as soon as you hit the v-ism button, and I mean that literally as soon as you see the flash you can uppercut you can do it to supers too. Its not like v-isms are free damage neither is a-dhalsim since you have to be able to control his limbs and zone and know what trajectory each of your drills are gonna hit just to get the right effect.

Well in all fairness 3s never got popular until it was featured at B5 I think? and the japanese handed our asses to us, that was the first time most Americans had saw the possibilities in that game and most of them were saying “12 is like magneto!” while Chikyuu rushe them down. Regarding SC2,VF4 and the other 3d games that might be seen as unpopular, also take into consideration that, that portion of Evo is in affiliation with Tekken Zaibatsu and the other websites. I understand that it most likely will never be at an Evo but I just personally believe its a bad move to not implement one of the best if not the best SF game in a dieing scene.

A3 has always been and will always be my favorite SF game to watch. The 5 on 5 US Japan A3 portion on the EVO 2002 disc is the best thing SRK ever put together. I lost track of how many times I watched that, espcially Apocs Balrog…that is the fuckin shit right there.

just a reminder people, tryn to get a strong showing at texas showdown5 this year again there will be at least a 50$+ bonus to the pot split for 1st place finish.
