What do you truly hate about ssf4ae2012?

Yeah sign me up for another hater of ‘anti-streetfighter’ characters like Seth/elf/Viper. They piss me off to no end with their shennanigans and 50/50 bullshit.

  1. The design of Seth
He doesn’t fit with other characters at all, he steals moves from others, his EX DP is basically a cinematic with how long it lasts, absolute 50/50 bullshit and they make him the best character in the game. Atleast he’s fun to play.

  2. How much matchups effect the outcome of matches
T.Hawk vs Blanka for example, skill really doesn’t matter.

The reason some people think the music in SSFIV is inferior to previous titles is because the most of the newer tracks aren’t driven by a particular melody or rhythm. You could possibly whistle every SFII tune off by heart and they would be recognizable to anyone familiar with the game. Each of the themes in SFII are driven by a distinct and/or memorable melody. You can’t really say the same about SSFIV’s (and many other modern FGs) themes, except maybe Snowy Railroad and few hooks on other stages, and of course the character themes that we are already familiar with. In 3S, there was more of a focus on rhythm than melody (indicative of breakbeats, dnb, jazzy themes). So while it might be tougher to whistle some of the tunes, they remain instantly recognizable because of their rhythmic nature.

The trend in newer games seem to be to follow the commercial electronic scene, so the music seems to be driven more by modern production techniques than anything else. The more screaming synths and square waved basslines you can fit in, the better. Which is interesting I suppose from a sound engineering POV, but it doesn’t necessarily make for good music. That doesn’t mean though that I dislike the music in SSFIV. I just don’t find most of the themes to be memorable.

One of the main exceptions to my observation about modern FG music is KOFXIII. Many of the themes in that game are driven by catchy melodies. I don’t even play the game that much, but I often find myself whistling some of the tunes.

you played seth and probably still use gen who has more unblockables and shenanigans than i can think of lol

gettin kind of tired of scrubby hate, if you hate the character design…that’s cool, that’s legit…but “durr 50/50 bullshit” is not a legit complaint. you are the people ruining sfiv…take all the tools away and you’re STILL going to bitch because characters have cross up options. command grabs. plays differently than my character omg!

…learn how to deal with it.

I main Gen. Also using a character and playing against one are not the same thing. Seth is definately cheap in some ways there’s no getting around that. Also if you know anything regarding Gen you would also know nothing about him is ‘simple’. Shenanigans are just that, he benefits more because people have no idea what Gen can do (although lately with some more gen mains in tourneys less so) so if you get hit a an obvious oga cross-up setup (they really are fairly obvious for the most part, and very strict timing aswell + character dependant) it’s your own fault for lacking dat exp. Most of his shennanigans rely on the lack of experience of the opponent like the cross-up super/ultra which would only work if one had never seen it before and is therefore a one-trick pony. This goes for probably 80% of the shenanigans that Gen players (ab)use. Unblockables also require a shitload of setups and frame-perfect jumps, except for the recently discovered Guy & Ibuki one, that shit is mad broke hahaha. Also just because the majority of gen players hop around using crane j.mk and oga all over the screen doesn’t mean that is where the strenght of the character lies, he truly is a footsie based character with great pokes, the shennanigans are just supplementing that and not the other way around.

Here is the spreadsheet that contains (most, not all I believe) Oga cross-up setups. As you can see you will have to memorize a lot, and if your timing is anything but perfect (in a lot of the cases it has to be frame perfect) you will fuck it up and get punished badly. Now Seth on the other hand has ‘cheap’ shennanigans aplenty and all of them don’t really require that much execution or memorization. Now mind you, he obviously isn’t OP by any means. But the topic is things that annoy you. Characters like Seth and Viper annoy me because their mix-ups + pressure make them ridiculously scary if the get the momentum, sometimes to the point of highly annoying (i.e. Seths corner headstomp loops into j.hk or whatever).

You seem pretty angry, and I do indeed ‘‘deal with it’’. There is nothing scrubby about these statements, they are rather annoying characters to a lot of people, dare I say the majority of players. If you feel offended by people saying this, then that’s your problem. Just enjoy the character you want to play regardless of comments. Like I said the thread is just a lighthearted ‘what do you dislike about the game’ so take it easy.

I don’t like how non sf chars (seth and viper) dominate an sf game with ONE aspect of the game (vortex i.e strong oki)

Alot of it is safe and resets into the knockdown into another guess.

It’s all extremely obnoxious and its really not fun to fight. At least Chun wreaked havoc in 3s with super strong fundamentals.

And at least Vega still wrecks ST with obnoxious 50/50’s off one move. Proving that vortex characters have existed for a great while and that they are Street Fighter characters.

You are allowed not to like them, but they are Street Fighter characters, and I really don’t want to have this discussion again, all my reasoning for it is 4/5 pages back.

Claw uses his buttons to gain control first. Seth and Viper can and often do take a guess and go to work from there.

Claw is a footsie char FIRST AND FOREMOST

I feel as if there are to many characters in the game. When I go to play online all I get is 1. Evil Ryu 2. Oni

Game is too slow for my taste

Perhaps you’re talking about the mixup afterwards? Cause U1 of Seth doesn’t do much damage on it’s own, but you get a bunch of setups after it, 50/50 fireball trap and all…

Whats funny about that is that after playing sf4 for so long other games feel way too fast for me now and take quite some time readjust my reflexes, it sucks.

You play tons of Evil Ryu players and Oni players online? Evil Ryu is pretty rare. I think I’m the only one who even uses him on PC at all. I don’t see him much on console either.

I hate the strong and easy option selects.

I hate when i stand up before the match is over

I hate the possibility of making invincible reversals safe on block.

tons of EvilRyu and Oni on endless (pc and ps3). almost none on ranked. i guess the chars do not seem “main” worthy and are mostly seen as “let’s have some fun with those two cool looking chars”.

So what are you standing up for?!

Wish it was E ryu. All I’m seeing on euro PC is Dictator : /
