What do you have to say about those who say marvel is dead. is it? is it not?

meh. ive played all of capcom’s marvel games from children of the atom to xmen vs street fighter to mvc2

everytime they released a new one it only got better. i doubt id be disappointed in mvc3

eh…no

I don’t think MvsSF and, to a lesser extent, MvsC were better than XvsSF…

I’m pretty sure any new iteration of the VS series will not be better than MvC2…it might be better than XvsSF and/or MSH…but highly doubt it will be better than MvC2.

what did they take out from mvsf that you didnt like?

personally ive always bitched about blanka and beast not being in any of them

the fun system and combos that allowed just about everyone in the game to compete. and just the feel of the game was better too.

i like using spider man though. i guess thats why i like mvsf better. but i was really young back then and didnt get deep the game.

i need to play them again

The vs games have most certainly gotten better… and I doubt capcom will ever manage to out do the like mvc2…

I do miss magneto from children of the atom tho… fucking sickness that needed no rom or psy… true magnus…

you mean the boss? was there a way to select him?

As much as people want MVC3… there is almost no way to reproduce anything similar to what we have now with the metagame(and getting older) MVC2 that we have now.

It would have to evolve and be differen’t. I doubt i would be dissapointed either. however i’m not expecting a MVC2: 2 if you know what i mean. We have nothing recent to compare Marvel to at all besides TvC. And that game is broken to Japan and back. Maybe they will get the formula right with mvc3 but they might not. either way Marvel will still be played and have a cult following. I mean i’ve been working on getting good at the game for 10 years! i’m not gonna stop now lol…

Ya, dreamcasts aren’t expensive. I bought 3 just for marvel. then again, they were 3 dollars each on Amazon  I tried to order 4 but they ran out.

Point is, anyone who wants a dreamcast can get one and a burned mvc2 plus a converter for cheaper than a Next Gen game.

when mvc2 first came out i had alot of mixed feelings. i LOVED the roster but i hated to new controls. i hated losing the medium normals and thought a one button assist was retarded. as soon as i played it i thought having a one button dragon punch was cheap as hell and would instantly brake the game. and for much of the early days it was broken as most matches was pretty much one way everytime. as the game evolved though it turned into something different.

Mahvel 4 life!
someone make an av to represent!

I think they COULD make MvC2:2 and I think it would still go over insanely well. Yes, there can be updates to make it fresh. Sure it was a miracle that everything came together as it did when the game dropped, but 10 years later there ARE people who understand the vast majority of Marvel’s intricacies. As long as Capcom brought the right people on as consultants, it could get done proper.

Then again they’d have to get on that Marvel license again.

I completely co-sign what ecz is saying.

I don’t want them to reinvent the wheel I would buy a MVC2 if it was GREATLY updated. Marvel could play the same and not have to even look that better to get my $ I don’t need this game in 3D it belongs in 2D.

But I would like to see some better characters in the game than f*&ing roll and Dan (Marrow is kind of corny too). In the X-men Universe alone there are so many cool characters not in the game that would be awesome. Come on No Blanka but you have Charlie? 2 Wolverines!? You have Roll but no Zero or Sigma?

That said If they could balance the game out and get rid of some of the oddball shit in Marvel it would be awesome!

But at the same time I wonder if I love this game because of its myriad imperfections…

Also for anyone that knows this, does a gimmick character like Roll take up less space than say a full fledged fighter like Sentinel? I am always curious why developers waste space with “clone” characters or useless ones. I am assuming laziness…

by the looks of my sprite collection, roll has 1025 sprites and takes up 11.6 MB.
sentinel on the other hand, has only 391 sprites and takes up 6.09 MB

so it looks like roll takes up more space. my guess on why they have roll would be because roll was already in mvc1 as a hidden character. all the sprites were drawn and all the moves were there. all they really had to do was transfer it over. also the street fighter characters were transferred over from the alpha series. mvc2 has all the characters from previous games including, children of the atom, marvel super heroes, xmen vs street fighter, marvel vs street fighter, and marvel vs capcom.

they also added alot more characters too. lazy or not they made one HUGE game

Makes sense its just hard seeing a few of these characters you never will play (Sabretooth) and know there are so many other cool ones out there not in the game.

Also thanks Sleeve for the info on the space of the characters. Its interesting roll takes up more space than a god tier.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7992239&postcount=3896 not for some people.

did that realllly happen? when/where did they play?

My belief about a MvC2: 2 is that it’d either have to be fanmade, in which case it’d have to be free, not made with MUGEN, and have GGPO-like netplay. You simply won’t see another NEW sprite-based 2D fighter officially from Capcom, 2.5D is simply too profitable because it’s easier to make models than sprites and casuals love 3D graphics.

Also, if they were to make a MvC3, I think they’d have to go through a similar process that MvC2 did. Get the license and start off with a Xmen/Marvel exclusive game like MSH or CoTA, then work the crossovers in. Once they make a few standalone non-MvC3 fighters, throw it all together into MvC3. Make sure all the same characters return from MvC2, add in newer characters and the Capcom characters from TvC, and you’ve got a game.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 was a mistake; the only way to create a suitable sequel is to replicate the same circumstances that made 2 a great game, then add even more on top of it. Even if it ends up being 4 god tier characters and maybe 10 viable teams for high level play again, the game will hopefully be deep enough to explore for a decade again.

Finally, holy shit at that money match. 27,000 bucks?

.

The best way for capcom to make mvc3 would be to just do a full HD remix of 2 while adding 8 - 10 new characters (viewtiful joe, dante from devil may cry, zero, frank west(could be a fun jill counterpart))… and buffing some of the lacking characters with new moves… rebalance a couple others coughsentcouch ect…

This would make for a game that shares mvc’s heritage and gameplay… but could advance in terms of balance, content, look, ect…

I’d buy it…

at this point i dont care what they do or how they do it

just want more marvel. more marvel themed street fighter. thats all it needs to be. doesnt need to be like mvc2, mvc2 already exist and will always be there. just make moar!!!
