Only real men fight in a battle where everyone can teleport at will. And… not at will. And… pretty much every couple of seconds.
PC online is the equivalent of fighting Ganon from the fucking Zelda Cartoon.
Duuuuuude… Darkphyre and I tried our best to play on PC last Sunday… in one instance I literally raw launched him, got like 1/3 of the way through my standard combo… and then some “let’s take a closer look” rewind -ish happened and he was combing me instead.
We were having more fun watching the rollback craziness happen than playing the matches. At one point there was apparently multiple Juris on his screen. XD
…sigh, PC netcode. -__-
And now I get to ramble, something I’ve been meaning to ramble about for a long ass time…
I do agree here; particularly the bolded because a lot of things we think aren’t punishable or safe or what have you… aren’t. Online interferes a lot.
I don’t think anyone was calling you a turtle in a derogatory way or anything of the sort, or saying you were spamming, unless this is about the particular messaging you guys are having back and forth (and if it is, then my bad). However, we’ve had this discussion about zoning before and, honestly:
This is also what I’ve been getting at for a long time. A lot of people have this idea that projectiles exclusively should be able to win you matches. It can’t, not in any game and hasn’t been able to for a long time unless your opponent is completely braindead and face-plants into every one of them.
I cannot recall the last time I got completely dominated by fireballs outside of waaaay back when I bothered to play MvC2 in like its first month on Dreamcast.
Maybe its just my backwards thinking, but whenever someone says “keepaway” or “zoning”, my thought is of fireballs, spaced intelligently and sprinkled with good poking normals, and very good punishes against someone that finally tries to go in too hard out of frustration. No, you can’t just fireball me to death as I can walk you back to the corner and if your team (or your character for 1v1 games) isn’t ready for it, I can turn the tide in one or two good mixups. But if you’re doing it right, then your fireball game will frustrate me into doing something stupid (which is easy to get me to do truthfully, I’m pretty impatient when I’m not the one zoning lol), and particularly in this game, I can eat half-life for it.
I’ve been playing Scrub Saibot recently… his Sim/Alisa team is really good for this. He can literally tap me once or twice and then I’m forced to go to him quickly, sometimes recklessly, to try to get the lead back as the clock ticks down. Doing that wrong often got me juggled right into Alisa whose zoning is even more aggravating.
There’s ways to get around fireballs in this game, sure. But they are almost ALL punishable, and almost ALL are bait-able into full punishes.
That’s why I don’t get when this debate about projectiles and their worth comes up in this game. Even when compared to SF4, zoning is way more potent here (time of course being a factor), because if you make one mistake trying to get in on me and my team is set up properly, I can punish you for half your life, then either mix you up, throw you to make the life loss permanent, or set up the zoning all over again depending on my team combination. No, fireballs by themselves don’t do much outside of chip when it comes to damage. But they deny space, they frustrate, and they set up a ton of other things. They do their job.
