Wesker is actually a character with a surprising amount of advanced stuff…it’s just his easy stuff gets strong pay off and requires work to get around also. If Dante’s real damaging combos weren’t as easy he’d be in the same boat. You can basically just swing shit with Dante + Tron assist and beat up average players if you hit them enough times. Wesker is one of those types of characters where the more your opponent understands how to fight him, the more you have to know with Wesker to compensate.
Wesker without assist usage beats up on randoms easily but against good people you really have to have good assist calls to cover your approach and not just rely on random L and H ports. The standing gun nerf will make it so he will need assists more often also.
The saddest part is that Wolverine is completely easier to use than both Wesker and Dante. Sad game is sad.
Oh man where to begin. I’ll try to make this is in order of attempt as well:
Spiderman/Zero/Dorm
Loved spidey in MvC1 and since I hear this game was more MvC1 than MvC2, I had to try him out. Sadly, too much of an execution character for a starter and required so much work to do damage while others required less (and for some, alot aless).
Zero and his overheards and speed seemed liked an easy character to pick up. Had to drop him because his low life was bugging the crap out of me and for a person getting used to the mechanics it was really frustrating.
Dorm reminded me of Blackheart who was a fave as well in MvC1. I also needed a zoner on my team and he seemed like a logical choice. I enjoyed him so much I figured he’d be on my team forever at the time…
Haggar/Dorm/Doom
After a while I realized I needed a more beefier character at point, and Haggar fit the bill. With 2 zoners backing him up it worked pretty well in getting in and rushing down my opponent with that pipe. Unforunately, air turtlers got the best of me with this team.
Dorm still was a joy to have so he stuck around.
My Doom during this time was just for chip purposes. I had no idea how to play Doom efficiently and spammed Beams/Rock/Missiles until my opponent dies. Didn’t work out so well with my opponent’s LVL 2/3 XFactor.
Taskmaster/Dorm/Doom
OMG Tasky, where have you been all my life. I can’t believe I haven’t tried you out earlier. You and me are like BFF’s for life. Great zoning. Good rushdown with the right assists. Can take damage. You complete me.
At this point, I was too stubborn to let Dorm go. Deep inside he was eating too much of my meter and was not fitting my rushdown playstyle that I developed over the weeks.
My view on Doom once I learned how to rushdown with him opened a whole new world. This character was perfect. Great rushdown. Great zoning. Great assists. Holy crap, why aren’t more people using Doom?
Taskmaster/Doom/Spencer
I realized that having Task on my team comes with a price. You have to have Spencer on your team. Those two just work well together as Point/Anchor and vice-versa. It also gave me a good reason to drop Dorm.
Actually he kind of has the ROM but its like ROM rep relaunch ROM rep x n now.
Dropped.
Storm: Pretty much the same reason everyone else did she looked good but turns out she has a hard time moving around and just feel really clunky plus unless you DHC glitch she does almost no damage.
Haggar: I liked Haggar but I feel he actually hurts my defense because I don’t have to block I just have to mash Haggar and he saves me so I dropped him for now atleast.
Phoenix: I actually liked Phoenix to (screw everyone who complained and got her nerfed into the ground in UMvC3) but I wanted to learn a team that didn’t have to save meter so I could get better at the game in general and not just Phoenix.
Sentinel: No fly/unfly MvC2 stuff makes Sent a very boring character.
Current teams.
Swagneto/Wesker/Trish Swagneto/Trish/Taskmaster.
Mostly used Hulk for AA assist, switched him out for Tron because she’s just better, and later Akuma because Tron felt like ass with no assists.
Switched Dormammu for Dante because of the DHC glitch and because Deadpool/Dormammu have similar bad matchups and I wanted a more balanced team. Jam Session is also one of the best assists Deadpool can have.
Not gonna lie, but I’ve been destroyed by on point Hsien-Ko’s. I just get mindfucked as soon as I see her out in front.
Kudos to you for sticking with Team Darkstalkers though. It takes a lot of work to get wins with a team like that.
Are you allowed to say “everyone” if you experimented with the whole cast and then quit the game? Because I know a lot of people who fit this bill.
arthur after i went online, won my first 4 matches via ragequit. lost my 5th match to a dante/wesker/skrull team… ie we teleport around your BS.
thats when i said fuck arthur cause i couldnt see any way around teleports except to not do anything, which let them in on me for free…
then i figured “its time for business” and picked up wolvie/ammy/sent
probably the best team ive used tier wise and overall power wise incredible synergy… sent was still pre-patch and i was lovin it.
eventually dropped the entire team cause:
wolvie was eye gougingly boring.
i saw choisauce use ammy WAAAY better than me and got salty.
sent was no longer imba and people were figuring out to hit him with overheads…
picked chun/tron/ ironman
couldnt get in with chun even with unibeam clearing shit out for me so i dropped chun. kept ironman and tron.
figured i needed more ironman exp so ran him first with tron second and sent anchor.
sent anchor started pissing me off so i re-dropped him, picked up doom.
ran that team for awhile but didnt like dooms dhc synergy with my team.
picked up arthur at anchor and am pretty happy.
still this team wont work for ultimate and im looking for some free agents.
You mean the type that encompasses every character ever ?
I dropped Iron Man because he wasn’t as good an anchor as I thought he would be, and I couldn’t for the life of me find a purpose for him in the context of a team.
My marvel experience actually started out with zero/chun/ammy, and while I had early success with the team it became a bit obvious that their overall health was like a wet paper bag in a hurricane. I decided to take up dormammu, who was both a good keepaway and had a great lockdown assist method, and swapped out ammy for the time being. Zero/dorm/chun was my main team for a good while, but I became increasingly frustrated with chun li’s lack of options compared to the other two. I decided to switch chun for akuma, and used that team for a good stretch. Then I got my first fight stick. I decided to learn Spencer for shits and ended up liking him a ton, so I took turns alternating him in and out of my team. I also started to look at doom, doing much of the same with him. Eventually, I realized that I was growing tired of zeros play style and ended up dropping him completely. Nowadays I dint really have a set team but I tend to play akuma/dorm/Spencer. Honestly I’m just waiting for ultimate to come so I can give some new characters a shot
Still using the day 1 team of Chris/Tron/Doom. I briefly swapped Chris out for Iron Man, but changed back before long due to online frustrations. I expect my team to change a bit, since Tron is my fav character and I fear Chris won’t work well with tron on point, though if boulder assist is a semi decent projectile absorber…meh to much theory. Only time will tell.
I started off playing magneto/zero/sentinel and I would waste all my meter doing shenanigans with zero’s power-up super. I didn’t have the patience to learn/practice the harder magneto combos so I swapped taskmaster in. Then sentinel had the health nerf and people were getting wise to my ghetto zero tactics so I started playing she-hulk/taskmaster/tron. That’s probably been ~6 months ago and I still haven’t learned how to use tron, I’m not really motivated to get better because the game is ass.
Ironically enough, I started with Chris/Hulk/Doom, dropped them and messed with so many characters, then went back to them haha. Honesty the top tiers just don’t feel right when I use them, so except for zero I never picked any of them up
Before the game released I decided upon Zero/Amaterasu/Doom.
Dropped:
Amaterasu - A few months after the game, I just felt bored with the character and even though the team had synergy, I just wasn’t feeling her playstyle. So I tried someone with a different game plan…
Chris Redfield - LOL, Then I switched to…
Magneto - I thought “Hey, I like Magneto, I’ve been using him for years in MvC2!” Well, while he remains godlike, I just can’t play him in this like I can in MvC2 and the hyper grav loop annoys me so I tried to simplify it a bit with…
**Wesker **- Ahh, yes. This was a good switch. Low hitting assist that hits OTG combined with Zero? It’s insane and borderline stupid. At this time I also switched my team order to Zero/Doom/Wesker so that I could use his ridiculous assist while pouring M&M’s all over my opponent with Doom. So why did I drop him? (See: Ammy.) I also wanted to make use of another ridiculous assist…
Akuma - His assist is useful. Level 3 X-factor Akuma is gravy. Beam supers and keep-away gives me a chub. I actually still use this guy, but I plan on dropping him for…
Hawkeye because Akuma, while good, is a lame character. And I don’t mean playstyle lame, but his character is just stupid. Seriously, who likes shotos? And who likes shotos that are just evil-y-er versions of the original shoto? Not this Maverick Hunter. Oh, I’m also changing my team order to Zero/Hawkeye/Doom.
Day 1 Zero, Amaterasu, Dante. Dropped Dante. . picked up Akuma, dropped Zero picked up Chun. Dropped Akuma it wasn’t working out (don’t remember his replacement). Chun worked for a few scrub moment wins . . wasn’t happy dropped her got Spidey never looked back. Whoever my anchor was it wasn’t working, tried Akuma again and we worked this time.
Only one that lasted since day 1 was Ammy. I don’t know how i ever got by without Spidey, I need him on point, and Akuma on anchor is just brutal.
alternate team is Deadpool/Hulk/Taskmaster or Akuma depends my mood
