What characters did you drop in vanilla and why?

Chris has always been my main character in this game. My team has varried alot.
From Day 1 to Umvc3 Teams

  1. Chris/Ammy/Hulk
  2. Chris/Ammy/(MODOK, Dante, Jill)
  3. Chris/Haggar/Ammy
  4. Chris/Haggar/Wesker
  5. Spencer/Chris/Haggar

Umvc3 Teams
6. Chris/Nemesis/(Spencer, Pheonix Wright)

Dropped Characters
Hulk: He was great at lower level of play but he’s just too slow for me and his assists doesn’t help Chris enough
MODOK/Jill/Dante: Too hard to master
Ammy: Although she currently is my 2nd best character behind Chris, she just can’t seem to find a place on the team with Chris, I’ll probably have a team revolving around her too tho.
Haggar: Assist is getting nerfed in Umvc3
Wesker: His Ghost Butterfly assist won’t help Chris anymore in Umvc3

Start: Zero/Doom/Dormammu

Drop Doom - Couldn’t get the feel of his combos at all. I’ve since gone back and learned some of his stuff, but I’m very ineffective with him all things considered
Replaced with Sentinel - Drones are good for Zero

Transition: Zero/Sentinel/Dormammu

Drop Sentinel - Liked mixups with drones, but Sentinel wasn’t fitting my style and slowed down my team a lot
Replaced with Akuma - Tatsu immensely helped both Zero and Dormammu

Transition: Zero/Dormammu/Akuma

Drop Zero - Frustrated with the fact that the amount of work required for a ~600k one meter combo with Zero is much higher than other characters who can do 600k no meter. Love his playstyle, but all the effort for little payoff had me reevaluating in this world of Wolverines.
Replaced with Wesker - Has similar mobility options to Zero, and hits much harder

Current: Wesker/Dormammu/Akuma

My day one team and my primary team even now going into Ultimate is still Viewtiful Joe / Amaterasu / Chris Redfield, but I did change up a lot of my other teams and drop several characters.

Wesker / Amaterasu / Dormammu - I conceived this team after playing countless casuals at school against friends. The majority of them often said that while I was solid with all three of my characters on my main team (especially with Joe), my Amaterasu was the only truly threatening character on it. With that, I decided to make a secondary ‘good’ team that was filled with characters that not only were powerful but that I actually liked to play.

Wesker - Wesker is a fun character and he’s certainly strong, but I found it rather awkward transitioning to him after practicing with my Joe / Ammy / Chris team after a while. I find that with Wesker you have to really be dedicated to him and play him, well… like Wesker. I feel like I never really was able to grasp how to truly play the character and I never enjoyed playing him as much as I did Amaterasu and Dormmamu.

Deadpool / Dr. Doom / Dormmamu - The second version of my ‘good’ secondary team for Marvel 3. I designed it to be a strong, primarily zoning and keepaway based team with characters that I enjoyed and I had interest in. Changed after I dropped boring ass Deadpool.

Deadpool - He bored me to tears. I love him as a character but he’s far too simple and uninteresting as a Marvel 3 character for me to keep playing as him. I honestly felt like I becoming a dumber player as I continued to use him on my team. He’s just that boring to play.

I replaced Deadpool with Amaterasu soon after for the sake of having some familiarity with the other two characters I was learning. Thus creating the Amaterasu / Dr. Doom / Dormmamu team you see today. I have been running it as my secondary team for a while now.

Amaterasu / Dr. Doom / Dormmamu - I love this team. All three of these characters are incredibly fun. More than anything tho’, all three of these characters are solid while staying fun to play. I’ve experimented with so many team combinations, trying to find a second one that gives me as much joy as my Joe / Ammy / Chris team and this has been the result. I plan on keeping this team going into Ultimate.

Spider-Man - I love Peter. He’s still one of my absolute favorite Marvel characters. The problem is that, like Wesker, I was never really able to grasp how to play him particularly well. I also found that a lot of the characters that worked really well with Spider-Man were ones that I didn’t particularly care for. I didn’t feel like playing a team using characters I didn’t like for the sake of using a single character to their full potential.

X-23 - X-23’s cool, but often times it looks like she takes a bunch of work for little to no damage. It’s because of that reasoning, I began to see her as a less fun Viewtiful Joe. I wasn’t having that so I stopped playing her very quickly.

Taskmaster - He’s a character I was interested in for quite a while, but eventually lost interest in. I’m not entirely sure why.

Going into Ultimate, at the very least I plan on picking up Rocket Raccoon, Frank West, and Firebrand which brings my total of frequently used characters up to eight total. The other five characters being Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, Chris Redfield, Dr. Doom and Dormammu.

I don’t see myself ever dropping my trademark Joe / Ammy / Chris team, but I am certain to experiment with those eight characters to find the most devastating and fun character combinations I can find with them. If I drop anyone in Ultimate it’ll likely be Firebrand but he looks like an absolute blast to play so I’m not sure if I will.

I really just want to see Rocket and Frank. They’ve been my two most anticipated characters from the very beginning. Once I do I’ll be sure what teams I want to experiment with firsthand. No more guessing games.

Started with Zero/X-23/Wesker

Dropped X-23 because her and Zero rely on the same things in other characters’ assists that neither can provide each other and they don’t DHC well. Plus X-23 is too much work for too little reward and I wanted to play Zero more. Picked up Dante: Zero/Dante/Wesker

Dropped Wesker because I realized I needed some kind of assist for Zero to get in. Neither Dante nor Zero need an OTG assist either. Picked up Doom because he also had great DHC synergy with Zero: Zero/Dante/Doom.

Dropped Dante because of perceived lack of synergy with Zero (at the time: before Rekkoha > Devil Trigger stupidity was discovered). I also didn’t have the nerves to play Dante properly in tournament and dropped combos all the time so he was a liability. Picked up Iron Man on anti-air assist because he had good DHC synergy with both of my characters and because Tony Stark is a boss: Zero/Doom/Iron Man.

Decided Iron Man was too hard to play around the same time Rekkoha > Devil Trigger stupidity was discovered: Zero/Dante/Doom.

Decided Doom wasn’t cutting it as an anchor and his assist is just a little too slow. Picked up Ammy: Zero/Dante/Ammy.

Ammy’s assist brought me back to the same problem I had with Wesker: I still needed something to cover my approach with Zero and Dante. Picked up Akuma: Zero/Dante/Akuma.

Decided Akuma is boring and Sentinel is a boss, plus Drones is the best assist at what I have been trying to get out of my assist character: Zero/Dante/Sentinel.

Been playing Zero/Dante/Sentinel ever since, but also picked up Phoenix so I can cruise through early matches in brackets.

Dropped chars:

Morrigan: I don’t like playing with a handicap on

X-23: Not sure why I stopped playing her.

Wesker: Herpderp is fun for like 10 minutes, then you realize you’ve reached the ceiling with the character in 10 minutes and then you’re sad.

Trish: I actually like playing Trish. A lot. Probably my favorite character. While she can zone and lame people out, teleporters give her hell, and no matter how good your zoning is, one stray hit and all the lead you’ve been accumulating is gone and Trish is dead. It was annoying getting tagged by a random pimp slap by Magneto and dying.

Haggar: people got anti haggar tech.

Dark Phoenix: Boring ass character. I still play point phoenix though.

Spencer: I’m not that good with him, and he’s not that good either.

Still playing:

Wolverine: Fatal claw loop is fun
Zero: Dem lazers
Dante: why wouldn’t you play him
Sentinel: kinda boring as an anchor but his assist makes up for it by a wide margin
Magneto: swag combos

Learning:

Ammy: adds too much to a team and is a decent anchor

Dropped Characters:

MODOK - Couldn’t maneuver effectively with him. Ended up just playing pure keep-away. Why use him if I can’t tap into his potential?

That’s it.

You made up a term that already existed in MVC vernacular.
It’s the name of the old magneto infinite from mvc2

i also used x-23 for a bit and dropped her.

its extremely hard to combo into her weapon x without an otg assist and i can see why devil jin hates fighting zero so much now.

Dropped Morrigan. Still play her for fun but shes just not that good in this game and Tron fills he spot much better.

Been playing V.Joe/Deadpool since day 1. In UMvC3, may be dropping Deadpool and/or picking up Morrigan again, we’ll see.

Dropped my second team of she hulk Spencer Doom as I don’t know what the hell I’m doing with them.

Once I get used to chris haggar taskmaster again I’ll give them another shot.

Week 1 Team (Super Skrull, Captain America, Dormammu)
Main Team (X-23, Trish, Dormammu) played this team for several months
Transitional Team (X-23, Trish, Taskmaster)
Final Team (X-23, Taskmaster, Wesker)

UMVC3 Hypothetical Team (Ghost Rider, Vergil, Doctor Strange)

During the first week of the game I was really looking forward to playing with Skrull, Cap and Dorm, but after getting annihilated by Wolverine and Sentinel teams I realized that Cap and Skrull didn’t have the tools or team synergy to work so I looked elsewhere.

That’s when I found X-23, as a counter character against Wolverine while still giving my team a unique style. Trish was put into my team to make Dormammu more effective and she had a dive kick which I thought was crucial in a game like this (even though it has a lot of different properties from Wolverine’s derpy shit).

That team played very effectively for a while and I improved on it, but Wolverine/Dante/Akuma teams were just too overwhelming for Dormammu as an anchor, so I switched him out with a more versatile character Taskmaster.

As Vanilla enters its final days I’ve decided to give up my ideal of being a B-Team hero and played around with my team composition to have more power. So I’ve settled with X-23, Taskmaster and the derpy Wesker.

My other alternate Vanilla teams:
(Super Skrull, Haggar, Taskmaster)
(Captain America, Arthur, Deadpool)
(Dormmamu, Trish, Doctor Doom)

I think I mained X-23 , Dormammu, Dante, Akuma on launch. Out of those four I only stayed with Dante. X-23 got a little boring for me when I first started the game, I kept doing the same combo (Hit hit, OTG super) and setups and looked for someone with more diversity (Note: This was @ Launch, X-23 is kewl). Dante, Dormammu, Akuma was my main team for a while I think when I first started …It just didn’t work for me due to the scrub me at the time not being able to work well with the assists… I really, really like Dormammu still but I pretty much main 60% of the cast now but he’s not used with my main two chars **Dante, Wesker **very often.

Apart from that I didn’t drop anyone (Unless you count switching chars a lot, cause I still don’t have a main, main team lol). I wanted to main Wesker from the beginning as I rly just liked him, but I could never do his Palm > OTG > Combo I kept seeing in vids lol, little did i know back then that I was doing it completely wrong and tried the combo after doing like …12 hits which of course doesn’t work if you do that. When I found out I was doing that wrong I started maining him again lol.

I have alternates, as i like picking a diverse group to fit a playstyle of the point/second

Day one had doom/chris/sent or hulk/sent/ryu

Then it was ironman/doom/sent

Then it was ryu/trish/chris

EvEntually it turned into hulk/task/sent

Now i feel at home with deadpool/task/sent

It pretty much mirrors my playstyle from mvc2, drones+viper beam

Deadpool is such a bastard with h-arrows and drones everywhere,

I dropped people to alternates because you find your style, pool/task/sent fit my playstyle hulk smashing is super fun still

Wow… Ok lets see.

First team i used consistently was Taskmaster/Spencer/Akuma. I dropped that team because i felt like i was just cheezing out wins instead of earning them (I totally was.) Oddly, i now have Task and Spencer on my team but i’m not quite so cheezy.

Then for characters.

Dante: Picked him up because i heard he was top tier. Screwed around with him a bit but didn’t like the way his combo’s felt. Plus my execution is… Ouch.

Shehulk: Was screwing around with her in mission mode and i really liked her command grabs, so i threw her on a team with Dante’s Jam session assist.

Hulk: H. H. H. XF3 HS ^ MMHS V QCF Super. Dropped because i was a scrub.

Deadpool: Jumping back and shooting forward was easy and fairly effective. Dropped because godamn his combo’s feel slippery.

Haggar: Picked him up for his assist on my Deadpool/Haggar/Chris team. Dropped because haggar sucks.

Chris: Gun fire assist does good chip and Deadpools gunfire held them in place long enough to get hit. Dropped because i dropped the other two characters. Once i find a new team for him i’ll start using him again.

Now i main Zero/Spencer/Taskmaster and sub Shulk/Dante/Sent. My Zero is so scrubby. Can’t use Buster properly… I like my L’s to much to dedicate them to Buster. Plus i don’t mind killing in two combos instead of 1 when i get so many openings anyways. Spencer’s really simple to use though and his assist helps Zero’s combos, plus he has ARRRRRRRRM!!! Task is there cause he has a good assist and does good damage very easily. XF3 Task does so much damage!

**Haggar **- My first character of choice when MvC3 came out plus he was the reason why I got mad hyped for this game. I used him religiously until more players learned to respect dat pipe over time, then I had to drop him completely if I wanted to get better. I still use him on a secondary team which I rarely use, but not anymore as for main team.

**Doom **- Like others, I tried to use him, but I couldn’t get a good feel with him. Very awkward to use and he feels very heavy for some reason. Also had trouble on his combos, so I dropped pretty quickly.

Taskmaster - Not really used much, but I used him over Arthur for some time. Using him felt very awkward for some reason, plus I don’t find his assist as valuable as Arthur’s dagger assists so I went back to Arthur.

I dropped the entire cast save for Dormammu.

Dropped Deadpool because it was taking me a while to get nice with dante, after about a month I had it down and he had to go. Deadpool is by far the most annoying keep away character if you ask me, next to zero or course. Now that Ive played aztec yaotl and such I see what he’s really capable of and maybe Im a little salty for dropping him.

i play chris/deadpool/iron man

I thinkim gonna drop chris because hawkeye is here!!! I’ll probably play deadpool/hawkeye/iron man. but im so stoked about chris i might play two teams. possibly, chris, hawkeye, dorm.

Day 1, I wanted to play Dante/Wesker/Akuma. They were my favorite characters at the time, and I just knew they’d be good (Hey, I was right). I went to my first tournament, was playing casuals, and realized Akuma wasn’t working out. I just did not have fun playing him, and didn’t like the approach to playing him. I’d played quite a bit of MvC2 prior to 3 coming out, and I played Strider/Sent/Doom. I was pretty crushed Strider wasn’t in 3 (My excite when Ultimate was announced, even I cannot comprehend), as I was planning on playing something like Strider/Wesker/Dante. I remembered watching Clock’s Doom, and how I’d had fun playing as Doom in MvC2. So I figured, “Why not? I’ll give Doom a whirl, in memory of Strider.” I had a lot of fun playing from that point onward, running Wesker/Dante/Doom, and thought that was what I’d be going with from then on in.

I often played with one of my friends online, pretty much on a daily basis. Didn’t win much, because I wasn’t that good at all. I loved what Dante and Doom could do together, while my interest in Wesker started to wane. So I decided to drop him too. Looked around on the internet, and remembered that Justin was playing a lot of Wolverine early on (By this time, I believe it was one month in, he’d be in his She-Hulk/Tron phase). Like a lot of people, Wolverine’s my favorite X-Man, so I thought I’d give him a go (I don’t play characters I don’t like or have fun with, mind you, no matter how good they are). I figured that there was a reason Justin was playing Wolvie, and I liked what I’d seen from him (Heavy rushdown). Started playing Wolverine, and had a ton of fun with him. I noticed I started winning a lot too (Say what you will, but the Wolvie train hadn’t even picked up yet). I tell a lot of people I only win because I play Wolverine, but the statement’s really tongue-in-cheek. Truth be told, having fun is what makes me play better, which is why I’ve played Wolverine for so long. I went through a short phase where Doom pissed me off, so I stuck Sentinel in the back for a while, because I figured I could win more with drones. Got old really fast, and I started losing just as much as I had with Doom back there. Went back to him, running Hidden Missiles, and now finally Plasma Beam.

So, the too long; didn’t read version is thus:

Day 1: Dante/Wesker/Akuma
Couple weeks after: Dante/Wesker/Doom
One month in: Wolverine/Doom/Dante
Short pissed-off-at-Doom phase: Wolverine/Dante/Sentinel
Final team: Dante/Wolverine/Doom

Now, all that being said, I’m going to be dropping Wolverine and Doom for Strider and Vergil in Ultimate (Obvious because of my avatar). I’ve also picked up Viper recently, and hope to run a team with her in it. Probably gonna be Viper/Dante/Vergil.

Couple more weeks…cannot wait.

Wolverine: I played him for a bit since I used him in MvC2. Then I felt he got really boring so I dropped him. In hindsight I guess self-consciously I realized that he was derp

Akuma: Same as Wolverine. I was so hyped because I played him Wolverine and Morrigan in MvC2. He’s just not fun to play in MvC3.

**Dante: **I suck at bold canceling…

Felicia: I like playing her in Darkstalkers so I was hoping to put her on one of my teams. However I got turned off due to the work you gotta put in with her to get a win. She’s fun, but dealing with The Team when I was playing Felicia was brutal so I dropped her for a while until recently. Crispy Tacoz actually inspired me to pick up Felicia again and I’ve been running her on point ever since. She really is fun to play with all her resets.
