What characters did you drop in vanilla and why?

Hsien-ko slow bad damage
Dorm didn’t fit my playstyle
Morrigan Bad damage too much work for nothing
and many others my actual team is bad but I have fun playing it
Cap/Shuma/Sent

Dropped- 1)Haggar- I used to play him on point until I realized if an opponent had proper runaway the match was over already. It’s a damn shame because while his assist was great I much preferred Happy Birthdays with dat pipe.

  1. Deadpool/Dante/Wesker- I was good with all of them especially deadpool but they bored me to play as.

Final Team- Chris/Modok/Akuma- This team has major weaknesses but I just enjoy playing as them a lot.

chris: dropped him due to his very crappy normals and sub par keepaway game for dormammu

shuma: nice assist, but i couldn’t get in. not to mention his level 3 does crap damage. yes i’m aware you can combo into it, but like i said, i couldnt get in.

trish: simply because i hate triangle jumping and her more damaging combos are sorta hard to pull off. no self-otg also hurts. maybe i shouln’t have dropped her, since i still think she has potential to beat everyone.

I actually didn’t drop anyone. I started with Wolvie Akuma and Phoenix and kept them since. I’ve tried different teams just for the fun and I still do but my main team is the same. Probably will change for ultimate but you never know.

Storm, my Storm is really horrible.

I didn’t drop that many characters only two:

X-23- At first I liked the character, but my lack of assist calls and mix-ups with ultimately cause me to drop her.

Dante- He was a bit complicated for me at first, but I dropped him for X-23 because she was simple and quick. At the time, I didn’t know how broken good he was. I was just using him for his assist(Jam Session) for Chris/Sentinel. As I improved my game, I realized I liked jack-of-all-trades character (played Rose in ssf4). And eventually stuck with him.

I DROPPED SPENCER FOR TASK DAY BEST BUY KIOSK

his combos looked really bad

I dropped three characters, then the entire game.

My first three teams were:
Wesker/Doom/Sent
Trish/Morrigan/Phoenix
Wesker/Doom/Phoenix

I dropped Trish, Morrigan, and Sentinel.

Dr. Doom: I found him very awkward to play.
Hsien-Ko: Sucks
Zero: Wanted to avoid arthritis and was having trouble finding a team with him that I liked.
Tron: Don’t remember
She-Hulk: Was dropped for three reasons 1) Zero, 2) Dante, 3) Crappy Netcode

I think those are the ones I spent the most time with that I no longer use.

Wesker/Zero/Akuma or Zero/Sentinel/Akuma are both my teams

Dropped…
-Ryu
-Tron
-Haggar
-Phoenix (because it’s cheap in all way, a whole more than BFF, Wolvie, Tron, Haggar, anyone)
-Dormammu
-X-23
-Wolverine

Still in consideration:
-She-Hulk
-Tasky
-Dante (I used him a lot in the beggining, even, my first team was Dante/Zero/Tron)

Wesker: just too braindead for me. Just freeazy wins.
Dante: I just found him boring.

I started this game with Tron, Ammy, Storm. I don’t know why I picked this team, I just did. It sucked ass but everyone sucked back then so it’s okay. Then I picked up X-23, Tron, Morrigan after seeing Clakey D destroy with this team. Then when DHC glitch was becoming the norm, I dropped X-23 and Morrigan and tried to think of a “normal” team. I liked Zero and thought he was gonna be a good character down the lifespan of the game (I was right) and I picked up Sentinel as well because of his enormous health and drones, and I could play a team of all robot related characters which was cool to me. Sentinel health nerf patch came out so I dropped him for a different assist, Doctor Doom. Doctor Doom wasn’t my style at all so I dropped him for Taskmaster and that was even more short-lived.

This was a hard point in this game for me. I had no idea who to play. Either they didn’t fit well with my team or I didn’t feel like putting the work in with them, and I didn’t want to drop Tron even though she sucked so much on point late in the game. I eventually tried Zero/Ammy/Tron but that team’s damage was too low for me and I couldn’t really use Zero to his full potential with it. Tried C.Viper after that to replace Zero. Viper/Dante/Magneto. Was losing WAY too much because Viper is so frustrating to use against derp teams so I picked Zero back up again but kept Dante and Magneto just to test it out. I actually really like the Zero/Dante/Magneto team now and is probably my favorite one so far. I’ll probably stick with this team in Ultimate as well.

Fun fact: He was rocking Lei-Lei day 1.

Very first team:

Cap/She-hulk/MODOK

I dropped Cap cause he felt limited. I soon dropped She-hulk cause she didn’t fit my playstyle. My end team was IM/MODOK/Doom.

I started playing with Arthur/Haggar/Tron. That didn’t last. I don’t really use Haggar or Tron anymore unless I need an assist really bad. I ended up sticking with Arthur because I love Arthur to death. Hulk is on most of my teams too, as well as Sentinel. Never really came up with one main team though.

I constantly switch back and fourth on Chris. I like playing him, but he gets frustrating after a while. Glad he’s being buffed. I also dropped Doom for a long time, and that’s going to change too.

Shuma got dropped too, but that’s not changing anytime soon.

i started with zero, hulk, sentinel (dunno why) and keep them until just about 3 months ago where i changed hulk for taskmaster
also im starting to experiment with a new team dormmamu, taskmaster and spencer, though i want to find a better partner for the 1st 2

I honestly switch my team up all the time, out of the characters I rotate with, I dropped wolvie cuz I felt that he was cheap and he could get lamed out.

Started with: Iron Man, Spencer, Sentinel
Ended with: Wesker, Spencer, Sentinel

The change between these teams wasn’t as small as it seems. It took a long time, actually.

Dropped:
**Iron Man: **I hated that his zoning game was so sub-par, and his rushdown game wasn’t that much better. It was so hard to confirm off simple hits, and getting the cr. H felt like a curse on my soul. I love the character Iron Man but god I wish he was a bit better. I don’t mind having to work hard to make a character work, but they have to be worth it in the end, and that just wasn’t the case with Iron Man. Another thing - in my first team composition, whenever I tagged in Spencer, I felt like I had two assist with about the same purpose, I didn’t like to use Repulsor Blast (although in hindsight, I should’ve used Smart Bombs to OTG?).

**Sentinel: **Yes, the monster was dropped from my team temporarily, and he still is gone depending on the matchup. I dropped him after the health nerf, noticing that I couldn’t get my free ins using his assist anymore. I dropped him and switched up my team, but I took him back after I noticed I simply couldn’t live without his assist. It’s one of the most fun assists to play with, so I adapted and started to play more carefully with him (which in the end has only helped my game).

**Dante: **For a brief while, after the Iron Man phase, I played Spencer/Dante/Sentinel as my main team. I still believe this is a pretty strong team, but I simply used Dante as a tool to get more out of my team. I think there’s still hidden potential with a Spencer/Dante duo, but the assist is a big deal… I think you’d have to think a long time about who your third character is since their assist needs to help characters who have completely different approaches. In the end I just didn’t find Dante that fun to play anymore, so I dropped him.

**Amaterasu: **So, I switched characters for a while and I wanted a team focused around Spencer, but both characters needed to be good and fun to play. I looked at Amaterasu, who I played at our prerelease tournament before, together with Iron Man and Spencer, but haven’t touched her much after that. In the end, I dropped her because I didn’t like playing as her, she became really boring to me quite fast.

**Doctor Doom: **One of the most fun characters in the game, I’ve been wanting to play him and added him to my Ammy and Spencer duo to make Spencer/Ammy/Doom. I mostly used him for the Hidden Missiles assist, but I thought that was really a waste. I dropped him when I took Sentinel back on my team, since I only needed a battery for my team and not an assist character. I promised that some time I’d make a team more focused around Doom. To be honest, it seems like Ultimate might be that time!

**Dormammu: **For a small time, I used Dormammu to form Spencer/Sentinel/Dormammu. In the end, I felt like Spencer didn’t need either of Dormammu’s assist, so I decided to drop him and look for a meter building character instead and form ???/Spencer/Sentinel.

So in order, my teams were:
Iron Man/Spencer/Sentinel
Spencer/Dante/Sentinel
Spencer/Amaterasu/Doom
Spencer/Sentinel/Dormammu
Wesker/Spencer/Sentinel

I’m really happy with the way my team is now, although I still play some characters and teams on the side. Although it is really hard to keep using Sentinel in this age of Wesker and Akuma players, but I won’t drop him until Ultimate comes around (at which point I’ll likely search for an entirely new team).

First team was Viewtiful Joe / Morrigan / Sentinel.
End team was: Ammy / Morrigan / Phoenix.

Realized quickly that Viewtiful Joe was ass, no OTG, low damage combos (after messing with Wesker for a couple minutes and realizing he did about 200k more damage on average) and they didn’t fix a ton of his problems from TvC.

Switched Joe in for Hsien-ko (this was before she was widely realized as worst char in the game) to have fun with the gold armor assisting Morrigan and Sentinel. Unfortunately as the game kept evolving this team became worse and worse as Wesker, Akuma, Magneto, Taskmaster, Spencer and Wolverine absolutely demolished my team. Hsien-ko never stood a chance. Once I realized that Hsien-ko was the worst in the game, dropped her quick and replaced her with Amaterasu. Much more mobile, better Hyper combos, better normals, better zoning, better damage. Also had Morrigan’s bonus of being hard to hit while crouching so I had two midget crouchers on my team.

Sentinel was dropped once I realized he couldn’t do much against rushdown with assist backup. I used to use gold armor assist but without Hsien-ko on the team any longer my Sentinel’s defense was exposed. Dropped Sentinel and replaced him with Phoenix. Current team is Ammy/Morrigan/Phoenix. It’s definitely not the best team, as Morrigan is my battery assist and I can never call Phoenix so Amaterasu basically fights solo.

In Ultimate I expect radical changes. I’m dropping Morrigan quick out of there, she’s done for. Didn’t get a single buff to help her in her matches against characters with quick projectiles (actually got a NERF in this regard). Doom particularly destroys Morrigan and he’s looking to be the top of the pack so she’s out of there and replaced with Vergil. Phoenix is also done. She was super fun to play with but she basically got her brains blown out by the nerfgun so I’ll probably throw Wesker in the back to fulfill the Dark role.

Right now the final team is looking like Vergil/Ammy/Wesker or Doom.
Also making an alternate Phoenix Wright focused team to make him work as well as possible. Right now that experiment consists of Phoenix Wright/Doom (Missiles)/Frank West (Cart assist)

Started with: X-23/Thor/Trish
Ending with: X-23/Captain America/Dormammu
**
**
Dropped:

**Thor: **This hurt me. I REALLY wanted to make Thor work in this game but I just couldn’t do it with the characters I was willing to use. I love how he plays but he’s just way too slow to be able to work out unless you stack him with two top tier assists.

**Trish: **I like Trish a lot. I think her traps are unique and I love all the little tricks she has, but zoning’s not really my thing and I found it difficult to land her combos online. It took me a good two or three months to reliably land X-23’s loops on Xbox Live so I wasn’t really up for spending another on Trish.

**Morrigan: **Morrigan was my first post-Trish replacement whom I dropped for the exact same reasons. I’m not a fan of zoning and I didn’t want to put in that much work while learning X-23.

**Jill: **Jill was my favorite character in MvC2, so I tried really hard to incorporate her into MvC3. The problem is she pretty much has the exact same needs as X-23, so having them both on a team is redundant. Reluctantly dropped.

Haggar: I tested Haggar out for about two weeks. As a character I like him a lot, but he’s a bit boring to play as and I found my matches were just a matter of how often I could mash out his assists.

Dropping in Ultimate:

Captain America: Probably. I love Steve, I love his buffs, and I love Shield Slash for mixups but it just doesn’t cut it against runaway teams. My X-23 just gets lamed out really easily by Dooms, Trishes, and Magnetos and with Ultimate giving us even more ways to play keepaway, I think I’m gonna need to invest in a better assist.

Dormammu: I really only picked him up for his assist and I had no intentions of using him in Ultimate.

For Ultimate I’m going to try out Doctor Strange, Nova, Iron Fist, new Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Phoenix Wright, and hopefully Rocket Raccoon depending on how he plays. X-23’s still gonna be the main focus for my team though.
