I honestly do not know. Ryu barely changed while every around him changed. I think vortex characters will be easier for Ryu since he has really good footsies. An easier way to combo into U2 I feel is a major buff. Think about the fact that you can do u2 it off of ex dp for some insane damage. I mean will it be possible to do anti air lp.dp, walk forward slightly, ex dp fadc u2? Ranix, can you check that out? . Ex dp has good horizontal range. Also, because of red focus ex farball will not be as good. might as well save that one for an U2.
I would like to say that his c.mk changes will help him out a lot everywhere. If you already know how to pressure with it then you will appreciate the changes made.
When i said a “special move we can spam all day” i was referring to a move which is safe on block. For example bisons scissor kick. Hadokens and shoryukens can easily be punished.
rokman : I mean will it be possible to do anti air lp.dp, walk forward slightly, ex dp fadc u2? Ranix, can you check that out?
that a bad idea… better just do ex shoryu fadc ultra 2… first lp shoryu will be very depending of the heigh and distance, second is not a so good AA. and third damage scaling will make it same damage…
if mp dp fadc jump mp tatsu have the tatsu touch 2 times( not sure about kim message) then damage of a AA shoryu fadc shoud be around 300.
knowing that, I really feel like U1 is going to be use only against character with fireball. Better use U2 for the rest of the cast.
Shoryu fadc being not safe will make ryu a little different. I am just sad tht at the end game will be nearly the same after 6 years…
Eventhubs posted an article saying that red fa crumples at lvl one, meaning that almost every character can cancel a normal into red fa for 3 bars and get a crumple then combo into ultra. I think with these changes Ryu’s new ex dp u2 combo is pretty much on par with everyone else’s damage potential.
Ranix, I just got that shit down the other week. Here’s how I did it:
Practice doing dash ultra in one motion. To practice this I just raw focus.
Practice EX dp first until you can get x confirms in a row correct.
When you medium dp, try to delay going into the focus for as long as you can. Trust me, there is a slight delay you can do.
Hitting block and hitting clean look and feel different, practice every day and after like a week or two you’ll confirm just off of feel.
I would like to think that forcing someone to blow two bars to deal with my 1 bar isn’t a bad thing. They are still saying that unless its an fadc, red focus does not crumple at level one and that the ability to absorb ends once you let go of the buttons. I believe that means that a red focus on reaction should not crumple especially because ryu recovers quicker, but maybe ranix can test it out. I don’t have the pc version.
Personally, I don’t care about the Shoryuken FADC being -5 on block. I’ve always, always felt that it was bullshit to have these characters a great safe option for such incredible payoffs, so that doesn’t bother me one bit. Yes, I’m Old School, you know, back when SF games didn’t have supers that could change the match up on a coin flip, so you had to rely more upon fundamentals to win, so to me, this is a great change.
What I’ve been emphasizing on more in my displease is that Ryus central tools are not being upgraded whatsoever. Will their be any buffs that will make his footsie game stronger? Will their be anything that could potentially make his zoning game more of a force? We haven’t really seen anything that could potentially help out Ryu beneficially at his point, besides the two mentioned buffs I stated earlier.
With everything that I’m seeing, Vanilla c.mk should really be reintroduced back for Ryu. Especially when you take into consideration that many of the more offensive/aggressive oriented characters have now been given better options to get in then before, all the while other defensive zoning characters will now be producing significantly more damage per hit then in AE:2012. All of this coincides into more difficult matches for Ryu whom has for the most part stayed relatively the same.
I would’ve loved the rumored “buff” for Ryu a few months back in which they stated that his c.mk into Hadouken being a True Block String. This Buff, had it of been Real, would’ve single handily been enough to put Ryu into complete contention for one of the Top Dogs going into Ultra.
The True Block String would’ve directly improved his footsie game greatly, and would’ve directly correlated to having better match ups against the entire cast. Had this of been the only buff Ryu got, I would have been completely content.
Instead, we’re opted for an aerial attack in which we would only use in select situations? U2 hitting better? Okay, that’s neat, BUT I want changes to Ryu that don’t require meter to be utilized nor in vague situations. You know, buffs that Ryu can actually use in great portions of his fundamental gameplay.
At this point, I’ve basically stopped reading the Ultra Street Fighter 4 changes until I see some actual credible Ryu changes.
it s too late for ryu to have any major change. that sad.
I will be happy if they give him a + 5 after sls. It will allow to have cr hp more constantly online and don t change so much offline as with plink it s already easy.
Then I wish they change the reversal windows, make it 1 frame less, just as the automatic guard. make hit 1 frame less too.
like this we will have better frame trap result. and better pressure when you are close to the opponent. this will compensate the okizem game being weaker.
that not so bad, it will force ryu’s player to use it as combo AA or punish. that still ok.
problem is that it was a nice frame trap. now ryu will need to use ex tatsu. cr.mp as frame trap with sf4 auto block is not enough consistent.
I am affraid that this game became a turtle festival. having charge character owning the footsie game and not suffering strong pressure when they wake up.
No doubt SF2 Ryu was vastly superior to any of his SF4 incarnations, but things like Shoryuxxfadc really needed to be tweaked. Coin flip options are one of the most stupid things in SF for a long long time now. I fully understand it’s the “norm” now, however less of it for me is always better, even if it’s on a character that I’m basically a purist player for. Characters having so many ways around fireballs Are reasons why I felt that c.mk into Hadouken should be a true block string. For me this would at least negate some of the easy bypasses through fireballs so that you can keep a consistent keep away.
At this point, I’m probably going to go with the fact that he’s probably going to be Mid-Tier at best, and probably not as the same position as he is now in AE:2012 in which I feel he’s still a very strong character.
Full U2 from exSRK fadc is awesome, but i’m the only that will like buffed dmg on non animation U2?
Ken just got buffed +60 on his non animation U1, and it was already better
Also will be fun be able to land it (ever no full animation) after a super, like in corner srk->super->U2
He’s actually going to be worse off. There are way too many methods for getting around fireballs and now they added Red Focus to get around cr.MK > Fireball… although it costs two bars. Right now Ryu and Ken are in the bottom 4 for characters with the worst backdash. So that pressure tool is gone from them completely. While FADC backdash is safe for Fei Long, Cammy and Adon. Akuma has to be careful but he has several tools going for him in the first place.
I agree that at this point, he does in fact look to be worse off then he is in AE:2012, hence why I made the Mid-Tier statement, because for me personally, I believe Ryu is one of the strong characters in AE:2012 at High-Tier. It’s the frustrating part that characters whom gave him problems like Dhalsim for example got even better at doing things to frustrate Ryu, while characters whom he fought near evenly with have for the most part gotten great buffs.
At this point, with the nerfing of the -5 on Shoryuken into Fadc, the possibility of going 2-stock Ultra might actually be a great pay off now? I really don’t know, because at this point our guesses and assumptions are about as good as anyone’s out there.
It would be nice to see what the newest current build that is to be showcased will have to offer and if their are going to be in fact any more changes to Ryu, hopefully however highly doubtful. I’m pretty sure our general consensus here now has come to the conclusion that more then likely he won’t be as strong as his AE:2012 counterpart…which if it does come into fruition will not bode well for him in at all in Ultra.
Saw the capcom stream on friday, combo said that characters who haven’t recieved much are still going to get attention. I’m not sure if that means ryu, but I am sure that ryu players in general are not happy with what he has so maybe there’s hope…
