All these changes are pretty irrelevant now. It was just announced that Ultra will let you select your character based on edition.
Vanilla Ryu ftw.

Vanilla Ryu ftw.
Glad vanilla Ryu is back but will he be able to use the delayed wake up? If not vortex characters are still gonna be a problem.
No, you can only use the moveset from the edition you choose. So vanilla Ryu would have only 1 Ultra, etc. I’d still pick Vanilla Ryu though.
Escape Tatsu
Godlike cr. mk
Invincibility and damage back on heavy dp
dp trades into ultra again
Just a guess, but I’m assuming the -5 delay on a blocked fadc will not apply as well
I’d rather deal with the occasional vortex character anyway. Ryu is gonna hit very hard again, so some of that will be neutralized. The other option would be to stick with the Ultra version and deal with the majority of the roster who got good buffs compared to the insignificant ones Ryu has.
I think DWU is going to be an universal mechanic tbh, and this might be the case for FADC -5 as well. There might also be a possiblity that you can toggle edtion selection on/off in ranked, and that tournaments will keep to USF-edition only.
Now, if all of this is wrong, then I’m going back to playing Ryu. Hell, as long as he’s tournament legal I’m going back to Ryu. vRyu is going to be a serious top tier contender with super trap, escape tatsu and all his other great stuff. Also (non-ironically) looking forward to the matches against the inevitable O.Sagat-horde, considering Ryu - Sagat is probably my favorite matchup. :3
…this switch is also partially because Cody is getting jack all in Ultra, and Cody vs AE Yun/Yang/SSF4 Guile/O.Sagat is going to be fucking horrible. But screw that, go go vRyu!

"UPDATE: Capcom’s USFIV blog has a bit more on Edition Select. The feature is exclusive to the home versions of USFIV and is not compatible with online modes."
I wonder if the online community matters enough to affect the tournament community’s decision on accepting or rejecting Edition Select characters.
Extremely less hyped now. Wanted to take Vanilla Ryu online. Why don’t they make it choice like back when AE came out you could make a AE or SSF4 lobby. Gonna have to go back to harassing ComboFAG on twitter now and convince him to change this.
They’re probably worried about splitting the online player base to thin.
I don’t think the tournament scene will base their decision on whether the mode is online capable or not. However, Capcom not allowing it online does shows their lack of commitment to the idea of picking any version, and I think this will strengthen tournament organizers decision not to make it tournament legal.
So when is Ryu getting the divekick ive been waiting for so long ?

He’s had it since AE, you have to pick the Ryu with the E. In japan, the letter E means dive kick.
Universal change benefit Ryu more than his character changes. that’s pretty sad.
Whatever though. Red focus gives me another way to land U2 in additional to EX DP, though raw U2 is no joke.

I don’t give a fucking shit about the tournament scene I wanna have fun bodying niggas online with Vanilla Ryu. Right now that isn’t gonna happen but if everyone can just tweet the living shit out of combofiend I think he will change his mind about this.

Meh, I had a feeling this would be the case. This pretty much confirms also that any tournament of importance will be using Ultra version only characters. Too big of a risk of broken characters flooding tournaments.
At least arcade mode and casuals will be fun, lol.

I never found red focus to be that useful.
It was too easy to focus break, grab, and just hit out of. Maybe tactics will evolve.
Here’s one for the Ryu players bucket list: Hit someone’s red focus with full unscaled ultra 1… I’m gonna save that and make it my avatar…
Would Combofiend ever read any of these comments on here at srk.com? Where can we directly get to him with our own personal feedbacks so that he will hopefully attempt to do something for Ryu before it’s too late? I could care less about the whole “Option” to select all previous SF4 versions. Yes it’s neat to talk about and the numerous options of the strongest characters from the past rolled into one game. Of course it would be fun to see people feel the full force of Vanilla Ryu smashing people over again with a Shoryuken into Ultra taking away half an opponents life, but Ultra Street Fighter 4 will be where it’s at.
If anyone knows where we could post that Combofiend would have a higher chance of reading comments, that’s where we should go and bombard him with improving Ryu. Leaving him more or less the same (arguably more nerfed in a sense due to -5 on fadc) as AE while many of the mid-tier or 5-5 matches Ryu had now becoming even more difficult is completely bogus. I remember a time when guys like him & Justin Wong etc, etc used to post a lot on srk.com, not the same time or age anymore.
We need to really get our voices heard, yes, probably futile, but at this point, I’m willing to do anything to vent my frustrations out about the so-called Ryu “buffs”.
Does Combofiend actually have any real power ?
I get the impression its still Capcom Japan pulling the strings.

If only I had a Twitter account. Sorry I’m oldschool.

Probably he mean exRFA, wich will probably give us a lot of new possible combos into U2
That lv1 crumple is going to give everybody new combos
