What are your least favorite character archetypes?

“It’s the booby lady!”

Yes, though with most emphasis on that last part. :3

In fighting games? Not any that I can think of right away.

I even like Marvel characters in fighting games, even though I don’t read their comic books or watch many of their movies/tv shows.

  • The character whose win quotes practically tell the player that he/she suck.
  • Characters like Deadpool (and Deadpool himself).
  • Female characters who look like skanks (well, not the characters, just how the creator just use sex appeal to sell instead of being original). Christie’s Dominatrix outfit from Dead or Alive 4 just looks gross.
  • “Sasuke-ish” who fans feel like he has every right to be a dick over some God-forsaken reason.
  • Characters who have so much potential. Say, Anna Williams. She has so much potential as a character, but will forever be known as Nina’s slutty sister.

But Juri was never supposed to be a suggestive and tryhard character moreso than a psychopathic murderer. (Much like Bison and Bryan Fury.)

I don’t know what kind of characters I hate. I’d say cool characters like Dante, but I don’t hate them.

Probably lolis.

If Morrigan didnt act like a total slut there’d really be no point to her character, though.

It’s okay Momo doesn’t have a clue as to what he is talking about. Morrigan being a succubus from a game about monsters is a given, especially since she is the original overly sexy fighting character. As far as Juri goes, someone is having a hard time coping with his unnatural obsession with foot jobs.

Must be a tough world to live in when all female characters can’t be subservient anime girl doormats with mousy voices and zero personality. This truly is a moe world we live in.

>tell people to give their opinions on their least favorite types of characters

>get mad and insult them randomly when they say something you don’t like

I thought that’s the kind of stuff you weren’t supposed to do here. It doesn’t matter if Morrigan was the “original **overly **sexy fighting game character (lol)”, it’s still an annoying as hell character archetype. Get thicker skin or don’t make these types of threads.

I don’t know if I’d ever want to get rid of any specific character archetype, but the mobile keepaway character is probably the type of character I despise fighting the most. When I say mobile, I mean to differentiate from a character like Dhalsim who plays keepaway very differently than say, Oro in 3s, who makes use of fast dashes, a small hitbox and a double jump to constantly run from you.

I can’t say I’m a really big fan of the more recent incarnations of some of the SF2 cast charge characters either. I feel like esp in SF4 (although most my knowledge comes from vanilla) Blanka, Honda and Guile especially lend themselves to desperate playstyles moreso than the rest of the cast.

>Just go away no one cares. I don’t even recall responding to you so take up your beef with the people that already called you out on being dead wrong. I am sure the mods would love for you to hit the report button for the 20th time today.

Yeah keep away has probably gotten many an angry look, especially with good old Storm. Also Blanka in SF4 has the most “desperate” playstyle I have ever seen. I remember back in Super Turbo that dude didn’t even need to use his moves to be a beast and now you mostly see dudes that can’t even put together two hits and run all day wondering why they lose. Crap Imma lose better use my Ultra at a random time and hope they forget how to block it. Rubbish.

Yeah.

You’re an idiot.

pce.

-The whiny, emo, “I hate everything” guy (worst offender: Vergil)
-The bland or lame designed character that gets popular thanks to tier whores (Ae Yun, Vanilla She-hulk, Vanilla Tron, Ultimate Spencer)

Please stop trolling this thread with your immature nature. If something offends you it is not necessary to respond.

Estrogen…

I respect your opinion, like that means anything, but she’s a succubus. A freaking succubus. There’s no “overly” with a freaking succubus.
That’s the entire backing of their myth. Though Lilith’s a lot more blatant than Morrigan.

I see where you’re coming from.

I’m not too fond of Juri either. She’s a sadistic women with very few ties to taekwondo. Her 2nd alt. is on the tryhard side, and many people consider her to be a lesbian.

For personality the Jin Kazama/sasuke type “I want power and nothing else matters Im so bland and boring. I act like I don’t care cause the character designers couldn’t think of a personality for me”.

And as for playstyle Braindead defensive characters. Like Guile/Honda in Super Sf 4 Vanilla. “Oh yes I get to do massive damage/ build lots of meter with virtually NO risk to myself.” Its irritating that all they had to do is sit on the other side of the screen and basically do nothing to win.

OH and the Shotos, actually I don’t hate them I just hate EVERYBODY WHO USES THEM.

What should be understood that some of the characters in fighting games have their personalities exaggerated all to hell, thus causing people to dislike or turn away from these characters and treat them as negative archetypes.

To speak about character development issues, for example, take a look at Vergil from UMVC3. Vergil hails from the DMC3 video game. He is a power-hungry yet complex character in that game. Alternate character interpretation… is Vergil after so much power because he was too weak to protect his mother and seeks to compensate somehow and follow in his fathers footsteps? Or was he an outright asshole who simply wanted demonic power in order become a greater demon for dark purposes? Towards the end of the game, it is implied that Dante and Vergil were once close as they are brothers.
Now here in UMVC3, Vergil’s personality is completely exaggerated in many ways. He will pretty rant and rave about “power is everything” or “power… I need power” - thus turning a good character into a… zombie or otherwise, a unlikable character.
Some characters like these are supposedly likable, but they get trashed due to the fact that their personality traits become… dull or overused. This is bound to happen in cross-overs… Some characters may do… out of character things or probably ruin themselves due to retcon or different writers and artists dealing with these characters. Then you have characters like Ryu who has a… stationary or “status quo” personality. It seems like he just remains the example same as he did ever sense SFAlpha3. He hardly went through any real personality changes. He does develop some new techniques and such but… his characterization seems to be status quo. The fact that SFIV happens before SFIII does not help as much either. This form of character derailment or exaggeration may contribute to the fact that some player might not like others who use Ryu… or other shoto-clones for that matter.

My least favorite playstyle of characters are the “jack of all trades, master of all of them too” type. I think someone who can zone, poke, AND rushdown shouldn’t be great at any of them, only decent. I like Juri in SFIV because she can throw fireballs, but they do low damage and require the kick to store first. She can poke, but she isn’t by any means a beast at it. She has ways to put you in a corner and rush you down in there, but a good number of others do it better.

My least favorite to FIGHT (I love them being in the games) are grapplers. I suck at fighting grapplers =(

The whole “power is everything” routine gets old rather quickly. I once liked Jin Kazama as a character and even rooted for him in Tekken 4. Overtime, his personality and his story entered yet another status quo phase and got bland… and then in Tekken 6, he pulls a Kazuya on us an suddenly becomes the main bad guy for some odd reason (which sounds good on paper, but this sudden change in personality is just… weird). Jin could have easily dealt with the issue with Azazel much better than he did. Miguels sister would have been okay. No war would take place (well not with the world but Kazuya would probably instigate this). The only thing that Jin would have to worry is Kazuya… and Heihachi. Lars would have probably helped Jin stop Kazuya and Heihachi… so many thing could have been afforded but the idea got botched…

ahahahaha what the hell
this is even more hilarious than you bitching about zoning
a dragon punch and something like a tatsu makes someone a shoto. genius

Everybody hate grapplers

It’s not like they can just dominate with their gdlk speed and projectiles.
