Improve: Ibuki, Balrog, Adon, Dudley, Bison,Chun Li and Cody
I hope this thread will be a helpful and useful one If I need to add something in the thread just tell me and I will edit it and fix it up.
I think my list is pretty simple:
Best: Everyone minus below without reversal
Worst: Adon, Gen, Balrog and Bison (Dictator).
Improve: Everyone. Especially the people in the worst list and characters with good reversals.
Hard to say for me since for some characters I have only fought people who were clearly terribad with them ex :Adon,Oni,Ibuki(runaway ibukis are damn funny xD),Juri
But if I have to list them then mine would be :
Best :Gouken, Scrub Shotos, Oni,Cammy,Sagat
Worst : Grapplers,GOOD Shotos that also know the matchup well, Feilong, Boxer,Rose,Guile and E.Honda
My worst match ups are Gen, boxer, cody, and Zangief for sure. I honestly don’t think im comfortable in many match ups… I’m alright against vega and adon i guess…
its tuff to say cause its like what kain said it depends if they know the match up… i know for sure that gief is at the top of my list and cammy is up there too… cant seem to aa that bitch cammy… blanka can be a pain if he knows how to mix it up… seth, ibuki, any good shoto that know what to do and good chun’s…
I’ll just state my worst as everyone else is either fair or above.
Guile, Sim, Rose.
When you face Dieminion or Noobtron… you’ll hate the Guile matchup… a lot…
Sim I’ve faced Lucky D.
Rose, she has safe pressure but I can deem it worse than Sakura, as she can be knocked out of range for most of your normals or be put in the range where she will score a CH.
agreed… i was playing brunaleski (sorry if i got that wrong) and it was just a block fest until a knock down… if both guy players know the match its gonna be tuff. and u better not drop any combos. and u2 shuts down run/slide safe jump pressure. even when u dont have it stocked u can do run/slide, safe jump hp, then c.hp and it will catch the back dash on wake… learned that the hard way yesterday…
also ive been playing around in the lab and i think i found a safe jump set up for 3fr reversals in the corner. TC run/slide ender and then forward jump mk (meaty) n block… gotta test it out more… shoulda posted this on the match up thread… oh well…
worst match ups (when your playing another A rank with more than 4500 PP, my case)
Zangief, Zangief and Zangief…of course, I forgot Zangief!
Seriously, Ive been together with Kiryu Tsukimiya at the arcades, and we couldnt beat iitabashi zangief not even ONCE.
aside from that, Honda, Dictator, Chun li and Rose are the most difficult matches, but not as impossible as Zangief.
I dont get the dhalsim being hard thing. Take a look at my channel, I have some fights there with the best Dhalsims in Japan.
Once you get a knock down its over. Now Zangief…you get a knockdown…and then you have to start everything over…just ridiculous.
Dante, I think from the list of ‘good matchups’ you posted, you must be playing an awful lot of scrubs. Some of those characters are really bad matchups. It all depends on how well they know the matchup. Here are my views for AE 2012 based on personal experience:
Bad Matchups
Zangief (Hard work ALL day. It’s like trying to ice skate uphill. Especially if he has ultra 2. Only way I can win this against pro Giefs who know the matchup is to NEVER jump in or do ANYTHING unsafe and just try and footsie poke him to death. But with his LP SPD range, this is still a very dangerous game)
Deejay (His defensive metagame is PERFECT for keeping Guy out. Zone you out with fireballs, upkicks for antiair, rushing kicks for stuffing runs/flips. If he gets his safe jump ambiguous mixup game going, it’s very difficult to get outta there)
Guile (I find this similar to Deejay in terms of the fireball/antiair metagame, but Guile’s additional threat is his air throw. This can easily catch you out of flips and elbow drops. Very hard to get in on him)
Sagat (He can zone you out with high/low tiger shots and completely controls the air space with his kara cancel uppercut/knee. Lack of FADCable reversal will leave you in many risky guessing game situations e.g. after EX tiger knee on block)
Seth (If he gets 1 knockdown, the rest of the round is a guessing game. Lack of FADCable reversal means they can condition you to expect either a grab or an uppercut and go for the opposite. Also, his MP and EX DPs outprioritise EX tatsu.
Sakura (Her hurt box drives me insane. It’s not so much a ‘hard’ matchup as a ‘different’ matchup. A lot of combos that work against the rest of the cast will whiff)
I will edit this post with more later, my lunch break is about to finish!
Hey Nebbiez it’s great to actually talk to you your one of my favorite Guy players on Xbox nice to meet you! I mostly play High rank people when I am playing rank but from time to time I would end up fighting a scrub it just I dont do that bad against high rank Sakura and Dee jays there are good match ups for me. I train with this high rank Sakura played named OD Krypton and another one named NGamer3k so I know the Sakura match up really well and as for Dee jay it’s a good match up for me but I still lose to him alot. Thanks for posting in the thread I’m glad it’s working out
Obligatory gief mention gets it, my personal demon matchup is against rufus, terrible rufus players can scrub me out all day and good ones actually have a lower win rate than bad ones(it’s still like 6.5-3.5 their favor though).
It really comes down to who knows the matchup and adapting from there. If we’re going by 1 game sets people who know that you just defend, react, and don’t commit to AA dp type moves against guy will almost always take the first round, but then it’s a contest of who learns quicker, and well, I feel like i always play the person more than the character so my mentality usually wins in those cases. Online chuns and good vipers drive me bat-poop crazy however, they can do whatever they want dammit!
also like nebbiez mentioned sakura, but that’s more of a “i can’t hit 1 framers online” type deal since i can’t complete the TC against her to really confirm c.lk to s.mp hits, i will never be 100% confident in that link online so i basically just drop every non-punish combo against sakura, i have footsies against her down to a science though so i just win the matches that way usually.
Hey Dante, thanks nice to hear from you! Have we played before? I usually only play European players with the exception of a few east coasters and Canadians.
I know what you mean about that link, I seem to make it most of the time but never quite when I want it. I play on pad and even have trouble with cancelling st. MP into run slide alot of the time, but I can nail that every time on stick, pad just feels more natural to me.
Anyway, a good replacement you could use is cr. LK (x3) xx MK tatsu (to create space or get them in the corner) or run slide (follow up with neutral jump option select). I find that’s a very easy online friendly combo. Slightly more tricky is cr. LK, cr. LP, cr. MP xx MK tatsu or run slide. I’m not sure if cr. LP to cr. MP is 1 or 2 frame, but it’s quite tight. A nifty and shockingly underused combo by a lot of Guy players!
Do you have a personal blog on japan? - i cant picture the arcades you go to and would love to see the places, sites, atmosphere of the places you go to ( as a foreigner)
My worse is a Zangief player, - especially guys who go for the SPD when you poke!
Ibuki (I will join Ibuki players so i know the match up. - one day) - I hate that kunai (noob I know)
Dude I dont have a blog and I get messages all the time in my channel asking me to make a blog, maybe I should.
Today I went to shinjuku, played daigo and lost the set 6-4.
But I have some videos on the channel…I am really thinking of making a blog. But the time for that…
I think my struggle against Dhalsim is more psychological than other thing. When you see they run, run, run away from you, poking from large distance, zoning and teleport, and then run, run again… you finally got nervous and forget strategy…
