Yeah…so? They’re good at it, lol. 'course Venom’s got some great pressure with those damn balls of his.
You’re an idiot. In its prime, you could find a decent-sized Marvel scene all over the place, and arcade comp was noticibly less difficult to find. The US Guilty Gear scene, on the other hand, consists of a bunch of good players spread way the fuck out. Thus, people get a lot less time to play with each other, and it’s way harder to get experience against certain characters nobody near you plays on a decent level.
Anywho, I wouldn’t mind if they ditched Negative Penalty. I guess matches would get a little more cautious, but the game rewards a more active play style regardless. It’d only be a problem if you can sit on meter all day and run the clock out for free 'cause they can’t afford to risk attacking you (Pot could possibly be kinda gay with HPB then, lol).
but you also get it if you just keep back and chuck fire balls.
I guess i don’t like to be pressured into rushing by the system but shrug.
it’s just personal preference i guess, it’s a good game but i really really don’t respect the game telling me i should rush, if i’m ice man ( or doom ) in the days before ahvb i want to chip you, keep you back, and try to guess what angle your coming in so i can counter attack, rushing in is the last thing in my mind because i can pressure you, and eventually beat you if you stand still. Not the same in this game i guess, i remember when i used ot use ky and his fireballs aren’t really all that good for keepaway purposes, they are more rushdown oriented in gg and that’s kinda weird cuz he’s THE ryu wannabe in this game , at least that’s how i saw it.
I’ll prolly just pick venom if i ever pick up this game, he seems like he has great keep away and can rush down if needed or so i hear.
I’m no idiot i want to say something but i’ll just start another flame war.
But who really cares about the fighting scene in gg compared to marvel, if it has no big player base then maybe it just isn’t worth it, it may be worth it to you but apparently not to anyone else willing to spend the time.
that’s not really fair, but it also isn’t fair to say the only reason gg has no real champ is cuz everyone is so spread out.
In japan everyone lives next to each other (at least that’s what i heard) that’s why they are ahead of us in gg/third strike and gg is ahead of marvel in japan so they should have a consistent champ right?
I’m not saying that gg is a bad game for not having a j wong or some uber gg champ but i am saying that not just random scrub can be champ in mvc2, and all the excuses in the world won’t change that.
Why did you even bring it up anyways, i wasn’t even talking to you.
GG is a good game, but i personally don’t like a certain aspect of the engine.
Mvc2 is a skill game, if you want to prove otherwise why dont’ you go beat wong, or better yet just try to be the champ at your arcade , let me tell you something though you wont’ get too far by putting in little effort.
jesus christ, you think that having a consistent champ is even an issue for what could be called a good game? The mere fact that it doesn’t have a consistent champ shows how well done the balance is and how with enough practice you can win with any character.
Marvel seems to be on the decline while #R is growing in popularity. Shit, #R got the highest turnout at MWC. I won’t pretend it’s as big as Marvel, but don’t make assumptions when you’re ignorant towards the scene to begin with.
Why not? If I don’t consistently play someone who’s roughly on an equal level, it’s gonna be hard to know how to beat them when we only play in tournies after long periods of time with no contact.
You’ve yet to prove the lack of a dominant player is a bad thing. If top players were losing to random scrubs, you’d have a point, but they don’t. They lose to other top players.
See, there’s this awesome button labeled “Reply”, which lets me “Quote” words from your “Posts” and “Respond” to them.
Please show me where I implied Marvel took less skill in any way, shape, or form. The fact that you keep bringing this up just makes you look bad 'cause it implies you don’t have a real argument to begin with. Shit dude, I live in Seattle. I’ve been exposed to high-level Marvel for years now, and some of the top players here picked up GGXX hella fast. So please, drop the straw-man bullshit or shut the fuck up.
This was my bad, I didn’t see the “certain character” part, i thought you meant no one around you plays on a decent level which led me to think that not alot of people play in your area as a whole.
I also said it wasn’t fair what i said. which brings me to:
I don’t know it seemed to me a little bit like you were saying the only reason marvel is the way it is , is because of the player base and then you go on to talk about the gg scene.
I had already moved on and you knew you’d bring up new shit when you called me a idiot, You could even say that i meant:
“Why are you bringing up a argument that’s already dealt with?”
Please just stop already, seriously, stop trying to do whatever it is your trying to do if you want to argue i don’t mind argueing with you bu there’s no need for disrespect, just talk to me, hell i’ll listen i’ll reason, you just need to present your arguement and if i have a different perspective i’ll argue back. Just cuz this board has a reputation for disrespect and being home to the most unforgiving assholes doesn’t give you a excuse to even start acting that way.
Then give me something to respond to in the first place. Don’t just quote shit that may or may not make sense in juxtaposition and assume it all works out.
I honestly may have misread some of your comments,
the one about the gg arcade scene at first i thought was more or less saying the only reason marvel is popular, the only reason it has a consistent champ is because it had a huge player base.
but now that i re-read it , i see it’s more a point on how spread out the gg comp is in relation to characters and since all of them are useable lack of experience against good players that use them can result in getting your ass kicked later on by some random Zappa/May/Jam player.
Yea the whole thing basically just came from you calling me a idiot which i felt was pretty, unprovoked. Maybe i just took it too seriously and jumped on you but i really don’t like someone talking shit for no reason, I already said that i haven’t played this game much and my opinion on negative penalty is probably one i share with few other people.
and btw the reason i keep mentioning that it has a consistent champ is because you keep bringing it up:
it’s not a imaginary arguement as your suggesting.
and for this:
no you don’t have to have a consistent champ, but it shows that the person with most skill comes on top.
What your arguing is for player balance, and character/skill ratio if you can call it that, of course it’s harder to win with zangief in mvc2, in a tournament you’ll have to be alot more dedicated, but that’s more a issue on character balance and not about who has the most skill.
The person with most skill is usually the one who wins.
One person keeps winning.
I’m not saying it makes it a good game, but it shows that the person who has the most skill wins.
The reason i’m bringing it up is because the person i was arguing with before zigmover said he whipes his ass with marvel and that any monkey can play it.
So PLZ just stop talking to me, talk to someone else :xeye:
OK, first off, please try a little harder at editing your posts. Not trying to insult your intelligence 'cause plenty of smart people type like shit. But it makes things a whole lot easier.
Second, the Guilty Gear scene is almost entirely console based.
Third, you claim I said Marvel is popular because it’s…popular.
Fourth, I said Marvel has a consistent champ 'cause lots of people play it? No shit, that was my point to begin with. The Guilty Gear scene is smaller and much more spread out, so it’s no surprise there’s so much variation in results because all the good players hardly ever play each other.
Not really. I only responded to specifics before you got too vague. And I’ll say it again: you’ve yet to prove the lack of a consistent champ is a bad thing, even in Japan. The unnecessary references to Marvel and Straw Man argument further implies you think random scrubs can beat good players in Guilty Gear, and that’s why we’re giving you a hard time.
I’ll say the same thing you said to me*, when did i ever say that.
Dude i don’t think that, i wouldn’t have said GG was good if i did.
I guess this thing has been just a huge misunderstanding.
Also i never said not having a consistent a champ makes the game bad i’ve even said that:
huge misunderstanding on both ends,
 now let’s just move on , for real this time.
edit: LOL , i may give gg a shot, just to see how it really is, and the best part is i’m really good at console and suck on stick so i guess i’m the ideal gg player jk.
I’ll definantly look into it, who knows i may like it, and i’ll prove keep away takes just as much skill as rushdown with my evil evil venom
And I didn’t claim you did. Your posts still go a long ways towards implying as much, for the reasons I stated above. Whether or not you actually think this doesn’t matter, 'cause either way you need to do a better job thinking about what you post.
