I think you answered your own question.

i always knew ordo was a beast. that guy was the greatest before james came on the scene!
GO ALEX!!! way to win the team tourney when jones wasn’t there hahaha
good luck in the singles man… get used to the sticks and block his mixups!!!
james wasnt able to make it to singles.
On our small tekken tournament I made a small mistake in the losers bracket but I learned from it and I’m getting the hang of brackets and seedings/byes. Hopefully more people will join the game when tekken6 comes out.
thx calvin and james for buying the sticks and gordon for the converter. It was a fun 2days for sure. great tournament paul/kevin/shiro.
Mad props to Scrubby Dan who ate thru the competetion, day1 in casuals had a 30+ win streak going taking on all comers.
Thanks to Jinrai and all his minions for making this happen, it really goes a long way in developing our community. Ive added more people in the past week to XBL than ive added in the past 6 months, and its almost entirely because of this. Im really looking forward to developing my game and being a contender at the next events.
Yaaaaahhh!!
Edmonton players did not show for GGAC teams, and Teams was canceled.
Apparently some did show on the next day, but were not willing to play Singles, so that was canceled too.
And for some reason I was not able to get my $10 venue fee back.
To the tournament organizers: Please make sure that tournaments that you organize and advertise, actually happen.
GGs to Calgary guys again.
Random thoughts:
-Many thanks to Paul and Shiro for putting all of this together. While it was rough around the edges, it was overall a very fun weekend and it was only made possible by your genuine desire to improve the SF scene and bring people together. I know I’m a little too blunt and outspoken and give you guys a lot of shit despite that you’re giving it all you got, but without you guys, this doesn’t happen…period. You guys put your heart into breathing life back into the E-town scene and you have our utmost gratitude.
-Thanks to everyone who showed up. The turnout for SF4 was pretty decent. Met a lot of cool people and a lot of old friends from years past. We should keep in touch, have more events, get some competition going and just build around that…
-Big thanks to our out of town visitors: Alex, Dan, Edmund, Ken, Matt, Norman, Stefan, Duong, Razor and Virus. I hope you guys had a good time.
-BC, you guys are crazy good at SF4. Hopefully, we can catch up and compete with you guys. I don’t know about everyone else, but after playing you and seeing you in action, I feel more compelled to practice a bit harder now.
-MB/SK dudes, you guys are hella fun to hang out with. Denny’s was awesome (despite that looking for food was not). Hopefully, this event will be the first of many, and hopefully, we can build up our SF scene as solid as yours.
-I hate M.Bison. I was seriously worried about that matchup and thought I was comfortable, but ended up 1 win, 5 losses against him in tourney matches. I guess even milk has an expiration date.
-Congrats to Matt aka Ckassidy for winning the GGAC singles tournament. It was easily the most intense finals match of the tournament. Ckassidy, you are just so god damn consistent with your jump install combos. Fucking amazing.
This made me laugh.
I also give this a /golfclap
Shoutouts to Teyah for making the trip somewhat worthwhile, cause we really stepped up our game playing you and it was fun. Shiro420 for trying his best, and the stragglers who played casuals with us. To the rest of the GGAC scene in Edmonton, nothing more I can say that wasn’t said in this thread from Dustloops for WCC2. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5527&page=2
The Hobbema tekken crew was in a similar situation as you guys but I’m not gonna get all pissed off because I had a great time with the few (2) players we played(there shoulda been at least 3 more players that lived really close). although there was some problems in getting some of the tournaments run in time to help us out that had to drive back home I still had a great time while it lasted.
I think for next year it should be singles for 2days and spread out the games. like 3-4games one day and 3-4 games the other day. and they should start on time regardless. if people miss out at least they can play casuals later.
but yeah thanks again paul and shiro for a great tournament.
In all seriousness, I was personally not even aware that Edmonton had a GGAC community. That really sucks for anyone who came down here expecting competition from Edmonton and while I’m not involved with the GGAC community at all, I seriously feel awful for you guys.
To be fair though, it didn’t look like anyone from Edmonton posted in the dustloop.com thread saying that they were gonna show up. Did anyone actually say that they were even coming? Because for all I know, we might not even have any competitive GGAC players who were aware of the tournament. I don’t know if there was any direct contact with the people in the Edmonton GGAC community, so if there was, that’s pretty weak of them.
SmoZzLer: Maybe we’re spoiled since we’ve attended only good turnouts for our scene so far, our own tournaments having normally 12 or so people and the bigger tournaments we go to having 30 or so, but from what I’ve seen from the Edmonton Gamers forums and from a local who went down for Animethon, the GGAC scene in Edmonton had at least 6-7 players, with their better players having not shown up to it. Knowing that the people are out there, but didn’t show up for their own city’s Annual Major, left a bad impression on a lot of us. It’s like having the home team not show up to their own home game.
bokchoy: As I mentioned to Smozz, we were aware that they do have a scene, with their own forums and everything, even ranking battle rankings up on their site. Most of our interactions have been through several mediators, so no we were not in direct contact, but despite that we know that there is a group there for GGAC. We were told that they were coming, but from what it looks like they either don’t care enough to compete in a tournament, or came late to avoid us.
What really annoyed most of us is that when people did show, they didn’t want to compete in the singles. Or rather we were told there would be no tournament, and yet from what you’re telling me it looks like there was a tournie, even if it was a side tournament. It almost seems like they were too intimidated to compete with out-of-town players.
