Rofl!
Just tell me that afro and leo repped Billy Blanks and I’ll be happy.
Yeah, I was wonder how HDR is fairing. I have taken a small break from it. Just got over loaded for a bit. The few times I have logged on to XBL over the last couple of weeks, I haven’t seen many poeple playing it.
So it is still, played and in the mix. Good to know… but for how long?? Hmmm…
haha not guitar hero
beatmania though
There are 3 online activities currently running for HDR.
Stand or Fall
Technique121
World Warriors League
Join those and play. Who cares how long it remains as the second, third or fourth most popular game? I sign onto GGPO to play three out of four remaining Alpha 2 players left in the world and don’t complain (the fourth I play on cabinet). If it is fun and there is at least one other player, there is no problem.

First, thanks for the free pub. Can’t ever get enough of that. Second, I would say that the whole argument here, that HDR could be on the way out, should be a serious concern. NOT because its a crappy game, I mean we’re here because we LOVE HDR / ST / SF2. It’s a concern because in the overwhelming response to SFIV, everything else gets pushed back. BB, perfectly fine game, but it doesn’t compete in terms of numbers with the juggernaut. Same with KOF 12, GG:AC, HDR, any other game you want to come up with.
The solution to that problem is to build (and show) a dedicated following to the game across different levels of play to encourage newcomers and keep experts interested. Again, SFIV does this by pure numbers, but the problem with pure numbers is the clumsiness… Championship mode addresses this to some degree but then sets unrealistic expectations. So specifically how does HDR do this? Simple: utilize HDR’s resources more effectively.
What does HDR have that other fighters don’t? Easily accessible gameplay? Compared to BB / GG / even high end SFIV? CHECK. Can it be played online? I think we all agree that no other console fighter has HDR’s netcode… its not GGPO but what is? Can you easily organize different groups of people to participate at the same time and build community? HDR is not perfect, but its player room system allows for some of this, combine this with XBL’s party function like we used at our tuesday tourney this week and I think everyone walked away with a very enjoyable experience. Not to mention Monday nights we put people together of VERY different skill levels and no one complained about it being too hard, our people played with class and all had alot of fun. Even from the people who took a lot of losses, they were all saying how much they wanted to come back, play more, and get better. In one week we’ve already increased the level of dedication to HDR from at least 5 or more players.
Personally, I’m only playing HDR now because I remember playing SF2 back in the day, and thought I was good so I thought I’d try the beta, got whipped alot, put it down, and then was going to wait for SFIV. Then I realized I was poor and couldn’t afford it, so I got HDR instead (for the record I still don’t own a copy of SFIV, I played it one weekend at a friends house for the gamerscore…). Of course that turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made (not quite marrying my wife… but good), but it was completely by circumstance, but I don’t want to give up HDR to history quite yet.
So HDR has alot going for it, and with a little external help (which is really what the WWL and I’m sure these other organizations are about at their core) we can accentuate what is great about HDR and make it a game where people who maybe only play SFIV (and we all know those people…) will be willing to spend 15.00 to get involved. HDR is a game where people inside of a given framework can achieve reasonable goals. Not everyone’s goal is to win EVO, but maybe a new players goal is to go 4 and 3 in weekly pool play. I mean I’ve had the debate privately with people as to whether or not the WWL should add a SFIV type deal on different nights, and maybe we will, but we would only do that if we felt we could do it in a way to get more people involved in HDR, because I’ve been clear that supporting HDR, its players, and our community is our first and most important goal.
More genuinely on topic, what happened at warzone was shameful. Okay great you get 300+ entries for SFIV. But if you have 30 teams of 3 people, that’s 90 entries for HDR and I’M DAMN SURE that was more than for any other game they may have had (if they had any). Maybe HDR has to go out an earn its respect to bring people in, but to all my HDR loving SRK brothers and sisters take heart, there are those working to make sure that this game has a long, vibrant life. Don’t count HDR out yet, it’s got lots of surprise left in it.
Oh, that’s great to know! Very encouraging. Glad you asked around. I stand corrected!

i proud of my fellow hdr players who are smart enough to not really want to play sf4
yet i still feel obligated to enter SF4 to help support the scene and just because… it’s there =P
TIGER!
Small correction, it was a 2v2 tournament.
Well that takes a little of the luster off… but even so… that means there were 60 entries. Which is still pretty darn good.
Everyone played HDR hardcore in CO when the game first came out but it quickly died with the release of 4 and BB. There are still a small number of us who play the game but it’s all good. SF4 and BB brought a ton of new players into our community and I cannot hate on that. I will continue to play the game on XBL/PSN when I can and will continue to play ST on GGPO.
I think ST/HDR tourneys are slowly dieing in CO which is unfortunate. Good thing I want to learn how to play T6
A few weeks ago I started playing SFIV again to get ready for a tournament (which I got creamed in). I thought I’d drop it again once the tournament was over but there are a lot of things it has over HDR.
For example, the match-making process is so much better and I can get matches that never lag. Also unlike HDR I haven’t played many matches yet where I felt I was completely overwhelmed because they had a match-up advantage.
At the moment I’m too busy to play either properly but I’ll have to make a choice just pick one sooner or later.
I’m personally starting to get a little bored of SF4, but like no one in GA plays HDR.
Guys, just play online then. The netcode for this game is fine, and there’s always players to challenge there.
I don’t get to go to very many tournies, but from what I see HDR still gets a good turnout at the bigger tournies (the ones that attract people from multiple states) here in the midwest (I’m in Ohio). I’d say that the ratio is pretty close to 50/50 as far as dedicated HDR players to people who just entered because they happened to be there for SF4. At the smaller, more local level there isn’t much of an HDR scene. You’ll have a hard time getting people to show up just for HDR (and I’ve had trouble converting the SF4-only players, LOL). I’m the opposite of everyone else that goes to tournies, I show up for HDR and just play in SF4 (which I rarely ever play) just because I’m there, LOL.
BlazeBlue seems to be doing well on it’s own (the GG crowd seems pretty dedicated). The game that has been completely left behind is KOF12, which is a shame because it’s a really good game. It’s netcode being horrible hasn’t helped it get a following either, I imagine.
Everyone says that SF4 has brought back the fighting game scene, but it seems to me that it hasn’t at all. All the new and returning FG players that SF4 brought in seem to just stick with SF4 and aren’t really branching out to any other games. SF4 has been good for SF4, and that’s been about it, unfortunatly. In fact it has stolen away people who used to play HDR when it came out and now don’t really play it all anymore :(.
I do.
Fixed. :shake:
Sad to say that i had my fill of VST and HDR after FINAL ROUND TOURNAMENT in GA, im dropping the game
Why?
