(As much as I don’t trust cops [or anyone, really], I really don’t see how they can be faulted for shooting her from little we know of this case. It really sounds like she wanted to die and, hey, third time’s a charm. At least no one else died.)

So, of course, I’m pretty sure the “problem” here is what little we know and people automatically–not without justification–assuming the worst, especially since people have the bad habit nowadays of assuming that just because cameras are nigh-ubiquitous that we’ll always have (untainted, clear) video of what happens. Yeah…that’s not going to happen any time soon–thank Satan–even with all idiotic and frankly disturbing drone bullshit as of late.

I guess this case also being in Texas is a problem as far as jumping the gun to worst case “police fucked up!” scenarios go given how gun-happy that state is, but meh. **You don’t storm into a police station openly brandishing a weapon and not expect to get fatally AHVB’d, even if you’re white and have a vagina.

Those videos and those police training videos clearly show that if you have enough space to draw and aim a gun, then you also have a enough space to draw your nightstick, pepper spray or TAZER. Thanks for proving even further that they cops didn’t need to shoot this girl.

And yeah, you’re right. All cops aren’t in shape or even close to it, which is a fucking problem. When your body is a sad sack of shit, you tend to feel threatened more easily and overreact because you know that anything that requires remotely any physicality is probably above your pay grade.

Confirmed for never having taken a knife defense course or undertaken any kind of armed security training.

In police class, you’re taught to escalate force plus one. In stabbing ranges, knife is met with gun. Tasers are not things to be used when you’re in knife range.

I guarantee you that I will shank you prison style at least three times before you can draw that taser. If I’m lucky, the knife will get stuck in you while I’m connected to you and I’ll nick something important.

It looked like the cop was going to cuff her from that but then panicked and got up to draw his weapon. when u throw a subject down like that, you cuff them and pat down them for weapons. He just skipped all of that.

That led to him having to shoot her when she charged. Unfortunately the presence of a drawn weapon doesn’t some scare people so when she charged like that he had to end her. You have no time to do some sort of grappling judo takedown at that close range with your weapon drawn. You risk losing your weapon and that can End the cop.

Sad. You’re totally right. I thought he actually DID handcuff her at that point and when she got up when the other guy walked in I was like WTF!? She chased the first dude and lunged at him. It’s sad, but I can’t really fault the cop for capping her.

SRK really has done a 180 with regards to their stance on police brutality. I remember in 2004 the majority were still into police worshiping. These days cops are getting called out a lot more frequently and there is a lot less sympathy for them. I distinctly remember being ostracized in police threads for merely criticizing police behavior. These days I can’t even get a word in before everyone else has already piled on the police.
