I understand that free weights have price and performance advantages, but given my situation, an exercise machine is a lot better for me–it gives me fewer excuses to not exercise. No concerns about spotters, LOW NOISE (very important), and other things I can’t think of because it’s almost 2 AM. A regular bench is really out of the question at this point, unfortunately. I will keep dumbells, though.
Do you guys have something going on during the workout for motivation? I understand the base desire/discipline to get stronger/better is the reason to start. But is there a particular mix of songs, video or even a book that really improves your workout? Or does silence lead to more focus?
I think the best/most effective workouts are the ones with the least amount of distractions. It’s very easy for 5 minutes to slide by between sets when you check out what’s on the monitor or stop for a sec to talk to somebody.
With me…I just LOVE working out. I’ve done it for almost 2 years straight with no significant breaks…and I worked out a bit when I was in high school. At this point it’s a part of who I am and what I do. When I’m in the gym I’m focused on moving weight…and as much of it as I can…and hopefully that’s more weight than I moved the week before.
But as far as music goes…if it is a must…I say rock or punk…something up tempo that may get u pumped or energize ur workouts
Ok I just got hooked up with some Creatine. The hot sales chick told me to take it before workouts, but should I take this on days off as well???
It should tell you on the packaging. You load up for the first few days taking more thab usual (like 3 times a day) after that just take daily. You want to take anything (creatine, protein shakes ect…) on days off as it helps with recovery. I hated creatine as it gave me some massive diareah and made me retain water.
I do 40 minutes of cardio 5 times a week on the elliptical machines. I mix it up betwwn the different machines. A good mp3 player helps too. I find it easier to stay on the full time when i’m listening to some music.
How long should I wait to eat before I work out? In my experience, like the other day I ate 2 pieces of whole wheat bread and drank a glass of 1% milk and then hit the gym 45min later and not even halfway through my circuit training I felt like I had to vomit, and did soon after. Couldnt even finish my workout. Any suggestions?
About an hour,but
Eat after a workout.especially protein.
Bread and water? What are you a bird?
lol, it was a snack to hold me over until teh dinner
I usually drink a shake and have a granola bar right before I work out
you must have a weak stomach I guess
Do you guys eat a lot of bananas? They good for muscle building?
I need this quickly
Which protein shake is better? Muscle Milk or IsoPure??
I have taken Muclemilk before, and i thought it was pretty good considering the fact tah it was pretty cheap ($25.99); but i have been hearing a lot of good things about isopure which is alot more expensive.
I have also been thinking about taking that anabolic inhibitor caled “Beast”. From what i heard it basically makes your body produce more testosterone, but i don’t want to screw up my heart and genitals so i need SRK’s opinions.
Alright I am 5’9" and weigh 158 lbs. Which according to this site http://www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm
means that I am within my healthy range.
I was never really extremely overweight, nor did I ever look or feel fat, but I decided to lose some weight because I wanted to develop some nice abs before my trip to Puerto Rico this August.
In January I was approx. around 173 lbs. and after watching what I eat and doing cardio for an hour a day, I got to 158lbs (As of June).
Anyway I have been doing Ab excercises pretty much everynight working each different Muscle group in that area. But It dosent really show unless I Flex my stomach. So basically I still have a little excess fat around my waist that is preventing the ab definition to show.
Since I am within my target weight for my body height what else should I do to get rid of that excess stomach fat.
Ultimately i want to get to the point where i can notice my abs without having to flex my stomach.
Any advice?
I weigh 300 lbs Im 6’1 im overweight but im strong as hell i used to play football back in hs and im prettey damm fast the only thing i do to train is eat alot of meat run a few miles daily and weight train
Well, they have potassium, which is good for your joints. But that’s about it, I think.
I’d like to tone the abdomen/upper-body and I’ve been told jump-roping is a good way to do it. Does anyone have any pointers on this? For example, are there particular jumps/leg-movements that produce more results than others? Which is a better quantitive measurement, number of jumps or time elapsed? Does jumping on one leg at a time make a better workout or is that just to impress passerby? If anyone has some insight to share that would be appreciated. And if this was covered in a previous post, just point me in that direction.
I’ve been working out for about more then 2 weeks now and I have a quesstion for y’all pros. I’m considering trying Max-OT or some other kind of system where it requires heavy weights/low reps. Now, when do you recommend I start changing my rep sets from 10-8 to 4-6 ? I mean, I’m very slender I’m 6 1 in height and I weight 165 with about 10% fat approx. My core is decently strong, I train it regularly… How long should I take to change the rep set? I don’t want to hurt myself.
Bananas are great post workout, they help keep you from being sore the next day
depends on how long you’ve been training before you start doinng 4-6 sets.
i don’t recommend this knid of training for anyone who hasn’t been training for at least a year or two
Does anyone work out with a punching bag? I’m trying to lose a lot of weight, so from what i’ve read i need to do strictly cardio until i get a good bit of it off. So, i stopped working with weights and i’m still walking about 3 miles each morning.
BUT, that’s just not enough cardio i think. Even if i jog some of it, i feel like i should do more, and i want it to be fun, so i’m gonna get a punching bag.
Sound like a good idea? Is there a certain way i should go about it? Should i work out some sort of routine or just beat on it until i feel like i’m gonna die?
THANKS!!
I don’t know much but a boxing bag is a great idea, you should try skipping as well. I hear that fucks you up real good.
