^Any info on barber moves neb? I remember accidently doing one on Talazia where I sliced the tip of her headdress off with Zarak, but haven’t been able to replicate that since.
I’ll try and explain this, but it’s kinda tricky, as there are many different ways to Clip/Trim/Barber in WeaponLord.
Say your opponent swings and misses you…while you’re not really counter attacking their attack, you’re attacking about 1/2 second after them with either a normal or special move which uses the Blade IE: Bane’s B1 (x), Korr’s 360 Flame Strike, Jen-Tai’s Back Blade Strike…
Here’s an example (or 2) of what I’m trying to explain:
-Talazia does a standing B2 (y), and Korr does his 360 Flame Strike from about 1-2 character lengths away. Since Talazia’s B2 attack has her leaning forward, and the second part of Korr’s 360 FS will be level with her head leaning over/forward, it’ll not only knock her down, but will cut off her hair as well.
Here’s another example with Talazia (again) and Bane:
-Talazia does her standing B2 (y), and Bane does his standing B1 (x) slash about a half second after her attack, you’ll cut her hair.
You can also barber or trim your opponent like this while jumping in at them as well.
And you can Trim in combos normally after moves like Jen-Tai’s: Spiked Shield, Korr’s: Tarok Strike, Bane’s: Fang Gutter…
Real simple Barber combo with Korr:
-T&S, s.Z, Gut Strike, Tarok Strike.
Please note: These are things I’ve done and that I’ve noticed when I played WL religiously shortly after it was released in 1995.
Hope this helps, or gives you some insight on how to do Trim/Barber moves?.
^Thanks a lot Neb, really cleared up some things and hopefully I can implement this in game
wow, i haven’t even thought about this game for like 10 years. my cousin bought it and didn’t like it so i took it from him and got hooked. i remember visualy it was great but more than that i liked the way it played. i’ll admit i always played Talazia. i like strong females.
oh hell yeah a weapon lord thread.
i absolutely loved this game. it was way ahead of it’s time and i only wish i could have found more people to play it with back in the day.
too bad it was never out for arcades. this game would have been amazing on more powerful hardware. (also we might have been able to play it today on ggpo if it was)
pretty awesome to see djames posting in this thread too.
I wonder if DJames is still thinking about an XBL version. I hadn’t heard about this game until recently, but I played it on an emulator and it was pretty cool.
loved playing weaponlord
all the roms i find of it now don’t function correctly though.
I have the same problem bucklemyshoe. I used znes and weaponlord crashes after a single match.
The Genesis ones work fine. We even did some netplay P2P. I just wish it could get on some service like GGPO or 2DF so it could get some popularity.
Any guys still playing? Hoping there’s some out there, I never bothered attempting to get more than decent at this game with no other players, so blah. :X
Wow it has been awhile…
Hey guys, been awhile since I been here… I haven’t been playing hard core since SC2 and kinda went off of all the fighting game forums… Anyhow I was looking into weaponlord as I usually do every so often and seen this thread. I thought I would revive it for those who love this game because there have been some new videos added on youtube since this discussion that many might not have seen. Also I am in the Baton Rouge,LA area but if anyone close by wants to play. I will drive a few hours, or if anyone knows some good P2P ways to play… I also play Tekken, SC, SF (third strike, IV).

Anyhow, I will add this to my favorites and try to stop by and check up on this thread…

^Uploaded all the soundtracks from the game, much better quality than this rip I downloaded, search for weapon lord
Hey everyone- I pretty much dropped off the planet while I figured out my future in game development. I really wanted to pursue doing a WL revival but unfortunately, the economy, the real estate market and more pretty much postponed my ability to do that on my own $ indefinitely- as a commercial game for sure. The truth is, Dave and I could probably do a killer fan version via an amped up MUGEN with more fun and less hassle than dealing with all the BS related to doing a commercial console release anyway.
The great news personally for me is that I have gone back into the dev world and landed a dream job at an amazing company.
That said, a for non-profit, fun, fighting MUGEN project would be something I would love to talk about if anyone out there is MUGEN studs. I personally would love to work with some programmers to update something open source like MUGEN to have the kind of pro-level tools and work-flow used in real production. I think that documenting this sort of thing and just releasing it as open design reference is probably the most realistic thing I can set my sights on, based on moving forward with my career and rebuilding from economic ultra combos…
update on WL and me

World Heroes started advanced guarding. Samurai Shodown innovated parries.
If I recall correctly, you’re at Bioware Austin working on T.O.R. now right?
Djames, congats…
Before you mugen or doujin wl, is there anyway you could chat with the ggpo guys and get it up there? I don’t know if it would be worth it to them, but I would go out of my way to use ggpo for once if it had weapon lord since that is the only game I never had access to viable comp… I’m sure there are many others who wish they had comp since weapon lords fanbase is spread pretty far/thin…
i loved Weaponlord. It was like Samurai Shodown with Old Norse themes, instead of Feudal Japanese ones.
