I went to pick up this game today at my local EB and they were sold out. All they had were the special editions, but I’m not interested in it. It’s a shame too, because I just got a HDTV. The demo looks so amazing…
DMC4 had the longest install time for any ps3 game so far.
Whoever said you start out with a bare bones Nero in the demo was talking out of their ass.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma has an equally long install time. And that game STILL does stupid shit like mid-fight loading for multiple seconds.
Maybe this one just seemed longer because I wanted to play really really badly.
That’s how it felt to me, at least. I actually ended up just going out to buy groceries and then coming back for its completion.
I noticed that too. So i bought that shit back lol.
Demo IR timing is more strict than the real game. But the Max-IR in the full game has the tightest timing.
is that ability to make DT deplete slower worth it or should I just max out all the purple orbs?
It’s totally worth it. I just got it, and it pretty much doubles your DT time.
Finally beat the game. Got a couple of things to say:
-
A Big middle finger to you capcom for that long ass drawn out statue fight boss in Mission 18. Like seriously why? I mean sure its cool cause of the epic feel but damn it seem like it took forever to take it down after i took out the jewels and had the jewel on its chest left.
-
Another fuck you for the Mission 19’s dice game. I literally spent like 10 minutes trying to get the right number to proceed to the purple but i kept hitting either red or blue and this is one the very first board. Everything else after that was pure luck cause i kept hitting hitting the right number to get purple.
Other than those two complaints the game was awesome. Now i’m gonna take my time on the next difficulty.
just got my style points up to sss in the snake woman mssioni
I might just spend more time on Bloody Palace with Dante than Nero
The Lock and Load remix rocks!
Man it’s harder to go back to using Dante again then I thought it would be. I just can’t help but miss the Devil Bringer. Still awesome though, so I’ll get used to it.
Game is way too easy. Beat Nero with no troubles (except for some of those secret missions (and that run-away old man)). Devil Bringer is broken. When was the difficulty supposed to ramp up?
I want to play SoS. Enemies really don’t attack often enough, which makes royal guard boring.
Dante 2-- bait him into stinger, then hit him once and then grab. If he starts to combo you, DT and you’ll do a c-c-c-combo breaker which you can lead into your own damage.
Beat the game on Devil Hunter. Impressions(and spoilers of course):
-First off, let me just say that this is the best DMC yet. Best enemy design, best boss fights, best level design/enviroments/best version of Dante/my personal favorite selection of weapons(Although I kinda miss my Cerebrus )/Nero is an AWESOME character to the series/an entertaining story/and lots of little hidden items and modes. Just a really well-made game.
-Its not perfect though. Puzzles/level design/pacing/“epicness”(yes, that is a word Firefox, go fuck yourself) is still no match to God of War II, because although I beat them both in the same time(12 hours), God of War II was simply more fun to me. I’d take the Collosus of Rhodes battle, with its platforming blended with combat with soldiers and fending off the statue itself, over The Savior any day of the week.
-Speaking of which, I think that battle was pretty weak. It had some cool ideas, sure, but ultimately it felt like I was playing DMC2 again(standing back blasting away with E&I). And thats NO GOOD.
-That gyro blade puzzle was kinda boring, but most of the other ones are decent. Again, not GoWII level, but nothing that made me die or anything.
-Which brings up my next point: in the 12 hours it took me to beat Devil Hunter I didn’t die at all. Not once. No Gold Orbs used. No items used PERIOD. The closest I came to death was on the Sanctus battles because I forgot to DB his ass at the end and was forced to dodge his stupid attacks for a good 5 mins(Still got an A rank). I fact, I got at least an A rank on all the missions on my first go-around. I know, I know “LOL DMC starts on DMD/SOS!” “You didn’t get all the Ss cry moar”, but DMC3 was hard from the moment you started on Normal. Cerberus was the welcome mat, and you either bucked up to the challenge, or you put the game on the shelf and went play something easier. This game has no Cerebrus; no Agni&Rudra.
-I don’t like the fact that the story never really cleared up the background on Nero. You get some tidbits here and there about how he has Sparda’s blood and Nelo Angelo’s soul, but thats about it.
-At first, I thought Dante was going to be kinda dull compared to the options Nero has(plus I miss my ol’ ice nunchunks Cerebrus, but once you get all his weapons(Giglamesh, Lucifer, Pandora’s Box, Yamato)…he’s the fucking ownage. Throw a couple of Lucifer combos, High Time to the air with Rebellion, Aerial Rave, switch to Gigs and shockwave downward, Kick 13 and switch back to Lucifer and blow up the swords. Too damn cool actually. Nero just can’t hang with that. Also, Dance Macabre is better in this game(instant S-Rank Baseball Bat!), but I kinda miss the Sword Pierce. Easy way to get a letter upgrade in DMC3.
Nero aint no slouch either. That Buster system brings out on of my favorite things about God of War II: badass O-button grabs. Much like GoWII, the grab effects everyone differently, but its so damn cool to do. Some people get impaled through the chest with a jet-powered lance. Some people get ULTRA COMBO’d into oblivion(DT’d Kick 13 to DB grab to Shinshoryuken = SS-rank Blitz. Easily the most satisfying part of my 12 hour adventure). Some people get Final Atomic Buster’d. And don’t even get me started on the bosses. I managed to finish all the bosses in Mission 19 with a DT’d DB grab. Needless to say, it was too fucking cool.
-I think thats pretty cool that Dante pretty much has all the shoryukens in this game. Regular Shoryuken, Shinryuken, and Shin-shoryuken(which is probably my vote for coolest move in the game besides the Final Atomic Buster). So much damage.
-The cutscenes are on par with DMC3 for the most part, and they are definitely prettier. There isn’t a scene that tops Dante’s opening asskick-a-thon/Running down the tower, and I loved those badass gun katas/Lady opening cutscene to mission 6, but its still good. Favorite scene(and favorite mission, 18) was the Dante/Agnus opening. Just completely ridiculous, and the best cutscene that shows the love it or hate it charm of DMC.
-The dice game is really easy. The number on top is the number rolled, so I always got the exact number I wanted with good timing. I have an annoying habitat of pausing the game to think when to roll, but I never landed on a red space so its all good
-So far, I’ve beat Devil Hunter and got to Stage 20 on Bloody Palace(that shit is hard…Berial has a DT :annoy: Purple flames and everything). I plan on starting Son of Sparda tomorrow. I don’t know what all the bitching was about with camera problems and backtracking. The camera was in a very good place for 90% of the time(although it didn’t do many any favors fighting those Mespisthos/platforming/Gyro Blades puzzle). Backtracking is present yes, but the environments are so cool I really didn’t mind. Plus, you get to play as Dante in all his crazy combo action. I’d give the game a 9/10. The best DMC yet, and well worth the 60 bucks.
Son of Sparda mode, here I come :nunchuck:
Edit: Also, WTF @ no costumes. DMC1 Dante/LDK outfit were great.
I died a few times in beating the game. The angus battle and the last battle, I simply bulldozed my way through with DT
The background for bloody palace is simply gorgeous . I thought in this game they did good job making sure that Dante is strong and that the eneimes still give you a tough time to handle them. I was impressed with the improved Gunslinger and DT.
I have no idea how to use Lucifer effectively. But Gilgamesh? Simply beautiful (I still miss Beowulf a bit though)
Just got too mission 12…so it begins. Anyway for the Dante 2 fight just get alittle cheap on him by jumping on the bed thing and just slamming him when he jumps up. I know abit cheap, but man he was such a pain too beat legit. How many modes does this game have and what do they offer?
Playing Dante makes me kind of wish I had a PS3 so I can play the PS3 version instead. The d-pad for the 360 controller is fucking god awful and half the time I try to switch styles mid-combo I get something else.
Anyone knows what happens when you get Pandora’s Disaster meter full?
I’m sorta considering buy the game again once i get a PS3. I’m loving the 360 version, but it feels sorta “wrong” playing it on this controller.
Just beat the game an hour ago. I agree with most of Deathreaper’s impressions. Though i wouldn’t say it’s the best, it is definitely a great addition to the series. Also you were absolutely right about Son of Sparda mode, Azrael. It’s a lot more fun playing on this difficulty.
BTW, here are some pics of Super Nero and Super Dante in the mission select screen.
When is it you can use dante for the past missions again? You have to beat the game first or something? Cause I’m on mission 12 and I still can’t switch between him and nero for the earlier missions. And using Dante is so different from using Nero and a lil hard to get used too. But dante is sick.
How can you use Dante for past missions when some of the areas only allow Nero to cross? I believe Dante will play Neros missions with slightly alternate paths.
And I dont miss Nero at ALL. It was fun while i lasted, but Dante with Gilgamesh and Pandora are just TOO beasty, and I just got them.
Oh ok that makes sense. Hmm so dante gets more beastly with those weapons eh? Ok I have to start playing again lol… I fell asleep earlier, but now I’m bout to start back up again.
