YES! You translated the Claw and O. Sagat sections. Now I can take on the cheese characters. I’ll freely admit that I have no intentions of taking on this game seriously, only competitively. I don’t adore the game. I’ll just play it to win. Let there be no doubt, I am the asshole player that Beasley coveted. Just don’t dick me, cuz I don’t do that kinda thing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I have been reading this thread and it looks like there is interest in ST. When I lived in the Seattle area no one played ST and before I moved I only played against Billy. I think some of you can be ready this year for Evo but you will need to learn at least 3 characters because ST is full of bad match ups. Also at least a couple of people should play the same characters to have a variety in strategy. Looking at Tiers is great but in the tournament you will see a lot of the same characters like Chun Li, Vega, Balrog, M. Bison, O Sagat, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Ken and Ryu. Try to learn techniques like reversals. In ST they are a little more difficult to do than in CvS2 but if you can get them down then you can change your opponents game plan. Reversals keep people from tick-throwing you and so forth.
You will see other characters used at EVO so make sure that you have all your bases covered and have a plan before you go into any tourney. In order to win at ST you have to play all the time or at least a couple of times a week in order to stay good. Players like the Wolfes keep up their skill because they play often, even if just for an hour. Good luck to everyone going to EVO this year and if any of you are down for ST then just let me know. I am staying with some of the Oregon players.
I’ve seen a lot of improvement in my short time seeing the players here. There’s obviously no problem with anyone’s execution… it’s more that the strategies I saw people using at first were poor becaue they could get away with it.
For example, two months ago, I saw most players jumping in all the time and getting punished. This is normal to see in an environment where your players aren’t really punishing you for wrong moves like that. Last night, people were much better about controlling themselves and not jumping in. I think having O Sagat players that were seriously uppercutting everything really raised the level of play (Again showing the power of “assholes” to raise the bar of everyone around them).
You’ve gotten a lot better Deezo. I didn’t use to have any problems with your Chun, but now you are much more aggressive with throws, and you’re not jumping in. Two sessions ago when we were playing in the tournament when life was low I knew that I could win because you’d eventually jump in and get uppercutted. I didn’t see you doing that this time around, and it changed the fights dramatically.
I think that the Seattle group can definitely compete nationally. I’m pretty impressed at how quickly this group has improved, especially with such sporadic play. Having an ST machine at gameworks will really help, as will the HD remix. I also think at the team tournament format was really conducive to intense “must win” matchups. I felt like there was more intensity and desire to win in that format than in the round robin tournament. Fundamentally, it’s the desire to win that drives people to improve. So I think it’s a good thing that Keith is playing Claw well and cheaply, because we need to people to think “I’m going to beat that motherfucker”
That doesn’t make any sense. That’s an oxymoron as competition itself, is serious. Shit’s serious.
I did them first, just for you!
if anyone wants me to translate a specific character first, I would be happy to, just let me know who
Chun, Ryu, Bison, Guile.
I wanna play Guile eventually I’m sorry. Kurahashi videos are too inspiring for me to not play him. And a PM will be sent soon.
Ryu is up already, and I will do the other characters tonight
there’s nothing wrong with wanting to play Guile, dude is a straight up thug
Thanks for what you’ve done thus far Alex. If there’s anything I’ve realized about ST from reading that diagram, and various opinions, is that there are a lot of differing views on who wins what matchups. So it’s kinda hard to make a judgement on certain fights.
Thanks for the link Alex!
Could you post up Fei Long and Dictator next?
There’s a pretty good Fei Long tutorial on YouTube.
WA taking Evo '08 for free.(don’t care about this year’s since I won’t be there)
Heh… I guess Cammy is weaker than I thought
Keith is a buster and a liar. He is good, and for once he is kicking ass in a game.
I’ll check when I get home, but what are some good boxer players to look up on youtube? I will also check the ST board later today, been busy at work for once.
I got gwoped!
Gwop is a tight word.
Tsuji, Superstar, USA are the ones that come to mind for me. I’m sure there’s other notable Boxers in Japan. Hajime No Ippo my nigga.
I answered your question here:

I moved it to the ST section of srk because I thought other ppl might be interested too.
Julien
Thanks a lot Mr. Zass.
You speak/read Japanese?
no, not really :wonder:
I took three years of Japanese in high school, and studied in Japan for a month, but most of that knowledge has been lost in the sands of time
I just use a dictionary and whatever knowledge I have left over to do it, once you learn all the SF terms it gets easy
edit: while we’re on the topic of my bad Japanese, can anyone with a better grasp of the language (Julien, maybe?) help me figure out what this says? it’s the first kanji that’s giving me trouble, I can’t even see what the radicals are
it’s Ken’s opening move #2
My immediate guess would have been
tobikomi - ??? - meaning to dive
Because that’s a common street fighter term.
But that first kanji isn’t tobu as far as I can tell. I’ll ask around…
Julien
? in Mandarin is to “jump” or “dance”, depending on what binoms or quadronoms it’s found in. It differs from ?, which is to “fly”, “soar”, or “dive”. But then, that’s in Mandarin. Bablefish translates ??? as “Jumping being packed”. So there you go.
It could mean jumping in deep/meaty. As in a deep safe jump (???). Or possibly meaning crossover jump.
hm, perhaps it just means to jump forward? I’ll look into it more later, thanks for the help guys
anyways, Chun and Guile are now up, I’m going to try and finish the whole cast tonight, wish me luck
I’m also going to do the other T.Akiba diagram, the O/X/- one
Just how can you forget Japanese. I’m slowly studying it myself but man, I wouldn’t wanna lose that shit. But then again I’m a manga nut. I should just give my paychecks to KinoKuniya and not even play games anymore.
