We Need More SFIV Players in Seattle

Oh man, I can see it now.

Rose ball mcgangbang matches.

Some of the NY players said some time back that he was using fighting games to cover his expenses through college, hence playing ST and third strike despite how much he hated the games. Dunno if it was confirmed, but it’s definitely been said (pre SFIV) that fighting games outside marvel were pretty much about the money.

I thought they were taking donations in order to cover their plane tickets for SBO?

And having someone else pay for your plane tickets makes it less greed-driven?

sadly, this does not apply to most of the things of the world. u have to pay for tuition, food, every other things. why does it have to be an exception for SF?

while i dont teach for money, but i’m just saying.

SF is not a game. SF is NOT serious business. SF is an INDUSTRY.

$20 and I’ll teach you how to throw fireballs and roundhouse with Sagat.

also, I’ll throw in teaching you how to never focus attack, or put much effort into playing the game for free.

that’s 2 for 1 people

It’s a video game. It would be no different if I were to teach someone how to shoot a basketball correctly, or how to throw a curve ball…or for that matter explain anything at ANY point in time…

Now I should charge money for teaching? I think it’s fucking retarded. It’s not good enough to teach for wanting to help any more…instead we gotta turn a profit for it right? Well in that case…if you want to play anyone of top level…you better be paying them. If I ever run into a professional athlete…and ask them to help me out with something, and maybe play a game of horse, or ask to throw a curveball so i learn how to hit it…I better just give them the money right there and then right?

Justin doesn’t give TWO SHITS about helping the community unless it’s not gonna get him money. So thus the question…what do you play for? Because in my honest opinion, I play because I like to hang out with buddies and recreationally play games…but I strive to become BETTER because I like to LEARN different aspects of the game.

Tuition for school, rent for your house, and food are essentials…learning street fighter is a fucking VIDEO GAME…a HOBBY. Not something that I would pay someone to learn…if I had to do that, I must owe Mandel and Cole at least 1K a piece by now.

Fuck that hustle, and fuck the idea of trying to make money because you have a big name. Where is your integrity? I respect them as players…but I don’t respect what they’re doing to make money off of a video game.

Anybody wanting some free battle points today should play me. I got to 2800 today with Bison, and decided I would have more fun just playing Vega. So I am shedding them at 100 or so a loss, and only making 25 or so a win. I figure I might as well give them to you guys.

There are some god awful analogies being thrown around in here. Good lord.

Oh, and I gotta add…In this economy, the first thing I want to do is pay someone who doesn’t care if I get better, to teach me SF. Yeah…here ya go Justin you can have 20 bucks…this a PERFECT time to give away money for something as frivolous as learning SF

I play for fun, I have the most fun playing at higher competitive levels, so I strive to learn. I respect that people would help me out for nothing but benefit of the same hobby they enjoy, and I in turn would pass that on to other people I know. Its the benefits of our community we create…I can respect people wanting to play for money as well but the last thing I’d want is a community based around winning cash in a game I enjoy.

And Brent you are raw for playing Vega online. I played him earlier and destroyed my friend with pretty much only using Walldive crossups and pissed him off. No SF4 for me tonight though, I lent that shit to my brother so he could play with a friend of his and spread the street fight.

That’s exactly what we need is more ppl with that mindset (ghrrk’s that is)

Yeah Brent I been pulling out my Dan in ranked matches recently and I think it might be that people just dont take him seriously enough because I been doing pretty well with him. I just beat a Goken with 6,000 bp using Dan lol

They’re not talking about money matches or playing for money here though. Different ball park.

Will you teach me how to get paid?

:frowning:

That’s easy, just flex and state out loud that you got paid.

Also be a large black man who is a boxer

Man… Fuck making people pay for advice.

I hated it when I played Unreal Tournament, I hated it when I played Warcraft 3, and I hate it now.

I never said I supported what they were doing.

I understand the argument some of you are trying to make about having a true passion for the game. I really do appreciate the tutorial videos, and how people in our community are willing to help each other out. Let me play devil’s advocate for a second though:

Honestly, buying plane tickets to Japan aren’t cheap; especially with the economy the way it is. I believe round trip tickets from NY are around $1500 nowadays. Then there’s hotel, food and travel expenses, etc. It’s not like these guys are making bank from winning tournaments. Hell, they’d be lucky if they got ANYTHING from competing in a tournament. Being a top player in the fighting game community takes a lot of time, energy, practice, and devotion…but really, where’s the payoff? I’m sure most of these top players have average Joe jobs, and are trying to make a living with whatever average job they have. These guys most likely can’t afford to pay for trips to Japan every single year.

I see their game critiquing as a way to give back to the community for the donations. American’s don’t get too many spots at SBO in the first place. Rather than saying “fuck you, I ain’t gonna donate shit”, shouldn’t we be supporting our fellow American’s?

Once again, I’m NOT saying that I support their cause, so let’s not try to start an argument out of this. I don’t think I’d donate money…I’m just trying to look at it from an unbiased perspective.

Maybe instead of charging a flat rate, they should’ve mentioned that donations are accepted…?
