I agree with what Preppy said about the guide, it is definitely something that is worth reading, and you will enjoy it! Shoutouts to Brady Games, as well as Buktooth for helping to write an amazing guide.
Also, big thanks to Preppy for allowing us to come to his house on the Marvel 3 drop date.
Im thinking of getting this but was wondering if its worth the effort to put this in a Perfect 360 controls w/happ competition buttons, displaying on CRT?
Its going to cost me about $250 to get this setup or should i just stick w/ Sanwa & HDTV?
first impressions:
sentinel + x-factor = lol
beam, beam on block is 20%.
net code is garbage! I was getting extreme amounts of choppiness when playing a connection from renton to seattle.
stages are really really busy, but I don’t want to only play on the training room stage either
I feel like for the amount of work I put in with any character trying to do a beginner to decent level combo, I could just be doing M, Launch, M, H, S, land, rocket punch xx HSF, launch, M xx rocket punch. this does like 50+ percent on like every character for no effort lol. For this reason I feel like Sentinel needs to be on every team I play.
OTG rule is kinda dumb and bland, should be more of an exception instead of a rule. Instead of garunteeing free otg’s for everyone they should be spread out between characters and be more of a unique option.
Chun-Li is really fun to play.
Storm is really fun to play.
Amaterasu’s weapon changing combo’s hurt my head.
This game seems focused more on omg huge combos!!! instead of the gameplay
Every character seems to be generally powerful and useful, with a few exceptions. This is enjoyable, makes me feel like there is plenty of juice to make the game evolve. This also hurts my head because of how much shit I’m going to have to learn how to get around or beat. Not necessarily a bad thing.
So far I have fun while I’m playing, which is good.
Moderate execution is required…expect to get random supers a lot until you figure out the exact timing for dashes
seems like the faster you do your combos, the less you’ll actually get out of them. they all require specific timing. Just muscle memory shit though. Not hard to do.
The control scheme…really??? Default scheme, applied to a stick, is like this: (on xbox)
L M A1 A2
S H xx xx
Wtf is that?
I find myself playing:
M H A1
L S A2. I liked mvc2’s controls, they felt natural…but this is the closest I get to natural feeling. Gonna suck for everyone when I want to play and have to change the controls back and forth every match
I haven’t really spent much time playing online but apparently you can’t view matches when you’re in a lobby with others? Kinda whack. I would rather play in person anyways, but my schedule limits me to playing during the early day/evening, only open on weekends. So I already know I’ll probably need to make some use out of online.
Training room is really great. A lot of good stuff to use in there.
I generally don’t like x-factor. I like that they wanted to add a little flash and ability to get one free cancel anything a round, blah blah blah, but the end result is pretty disasterous to the gameplay…Oh and capcom, people liked comebacks that actually took effort. Adding easymode comeback enhancers like Ultra’s and X-factor take away from that feeling. As a result the gameplay field of players is going to dilute. I LIKE when I know people are either better or worse than me. I take my beatings, and sometimes I kick ass too, and it kind of bums me out when I know “well he was getting his ass kicked, but then he x-factored sent and got two combos and won”.
Overall I am happy to have and play mvc3. I look forward to playing with all of you guys! But I also hope we can get a little mvc2 in the mix.
I agree with most of your thoughts, and as for the default control scheme, I believe on a pad it makes A/X launch, with the other face buttons being L M H with assists on the triggers. Could be wrong.
Spent a couple of hours with the game so far, having never played MvC2 all that hardcore it’s definitely a learning experience for me. Probably be a while before I really have comfort with it but liking it so far. Haven’t even really decided on a team I want to focus on yet.
My day 1 and 2 team right now is Chun(Legs)/Storm(whirlwind)/Sent(drones). I play chun cause she can rushdown and shes really fun. Legs is incredible, supers are good. Storm is also fun, and quite powerful. Storm can mix up between rushdown and keepaway, does good damage. Sentinel cause its fucking sentinel. Chun’s assist rules, everyone already knows. Storms Whirlwind assist is really good at destroying other projectiles, and its really big, so its easy to fall on it, etc. also good to run behind or square jump behind since it attracts a lot of eye attention. Sentinel drones are good, they take up a lot of space (horizontally and vertically). Its really easy to DHC supers between the three for looooots of damage. Kikosho into hailstorm, hailstorm into HSF. HSF into launch into combo for sent, or mouthbeam. Hailstorm into kikosho works. HSF into hailstorm works. Landing a BNB then burning meter is really good to kill characters, so I can save X-factor for Sentinel or to recover HP for any other character and besides, meter is hella plentiful.
Really important to know: DHC’ing supers that are effects/beams etc: they still go off! so if you dhc out of hailstorm, the entire hailstorm will keep going even when storm is off the screen. The same can’t be said for physical-hit supers because once you DHC the character performing the super goes away. I’ve seen this happen with other supers: magnus shockwave still goes off, since he doesn’t need to be on screen for it. Dormammu stalker flare is good to go. Things like kikosho dissapear because they’re attached to the character, and they need to be present to provide the effect. Would be worth looking into when you’re trying to make a team up because its ALWAYS easier/more efficient to burn bars for damage instead of x-factoring for it.
If anyone wants to come over and play just let me know, need more offline play.
Ghhrk, weird because my net connection at my house is absolute garbage, and SFIV is completely unplayable and HDR is too most of the time, but Marvel plays fine, odd…IMO the netcode is the best on XBL so far (Other than Virtual On which is absolute perfection).
Loving this game so far. Probably gonna be the first game I’m actually gonna take “serious” haha. Never spent this much time in training mode on any game. I’m actually really comfortable and like “Type-B” on stick since I play Blazblue quite often.
I’ve only ever played casual MvC2 against my cousin, but this game feels a lot like Low-tier MvC2.
Netcode, on my end, is pretty trash outside of finding Player Matches. Player matches are fine; there’s lag, but it’s not too noticeable. I can never connect to a Ranked Match and 5 bar lobby games are lies; they all lag like fuck. Also hate how you gotta constantly go back into the XBL menu if you can’t connect to a host.
Team for me right now is Zero / X-23 / Phoenix. I’m working on mixup / reset pressure right now which is kinda hard considering I don’t really have any good assists except X-23’s low assist. Trying to get everything right is still really hard for me though considering I’ve never really played any fighting game seriously.
If there are any casual sessions in Portland-Salem area let me know. Tired of being a “stream monster” and wanna level up my game haha.
Thanks for the execution tip! I’m probably hitting d/f+atk+atk by accident. need to sharpen up those inputs.
Played some more tonight. Starting to get a hang for the game’s speed. Went over to play with dustyb (who has absolutely no vs series knowledge) and I’m surprised at how good he can rushdown compared to me lol. He didn’t have any characters unlocked so I wasn’t actually using sent for once. I subbed in chris for a bit, but he feels too slow and janky. I think he has some good moves but his speed lacks too much. If he was faster he could be like a ghetto cable or something. Eventually subbed in dormammu (who I’ve wanted to try since I first saw!) and holy shit! Dormammu rules. Dark hole assist is seriously a lot like chun-li legs, If it hit I could get a lot of stuff. I was going ghetto and just doing LAx2 xx lightning storm, or launch into aircombo usually. Starting to feel out my characters a bit better now. Might have to play with dormammu over sent some times, He has some nasty stuff going on.
Dormammu’s crazy. Drop a fire puddle (d/f+C), start huckin dark holes and blackheart pillars and f+C, did anything hit? beam super. Are they down to 20% life and they don’t have a teleport? Throw two qcb supers out and watch as the fireballs chase them until they are forced to block and lose that much of their life just on chip damage. Did you land a beam super and have another bar? X-factor cancel the beam super and toss out another one for good measure! Did they finally manage to super jump, air block, and airdash around your bullshit you’re throwing everywhere? Let’s just teleport behind them and airdash away out of the corner! So beast.
Was playing Amaterasu/Hsien-Ko/Trish, but I’ve been messing with Zero (who is awesome) and wanna mess with Spencer and She-hulk as well. Hsien-Ko’s better than I expected, which leaves me pleased. Armor’d pendulum assist is the shit. I figured out an instant overhead combo into a launch which got me pretty hyped. This game is nasty.
My only gripes are X-factor is extremely, extremely fucking stupid, and holding an assist button to switch is bullshit. IMO, the absolute worst mechanic you could ever put in a fighting game is fucking with blockstun, i.e. being able to cancel it. You can cancel blockstun into x-factor. Not. Cool.
So I finally sat and played some online matches tonight. It’s okay. I like the training room way more though. I’ve found a ton of viable resets and mix ups but they’re difficult to apply in matches with the scrubs online who just hold assist during combos so they exchange as soon as the combo stops. Hopefully playing some of you beastly locals will give me a chance to play some mind games.
My record is something like 60-5. Doesn’t really count because it’s all pretty novice players so far. I think you have to rank up to play the better players. My team so far is Magneto/Wolvie/Phoenix. It’s a pretty buff rush down team/mix up team, which is what I dig.
I agree with Ghrrk on the comeback potential for inferior players. The only matches I’ve lost were against simple scheme users who constantly mash random specials and hypers. And since many of these moves cover the whole screen it’s easy to get life taken away without any real effort on their part. But I’ve made my share of comebacks too so it’s really whatever.
I like the game a lot so far. I can’t wait for the depth in the gameplay to kick in. I think it’s going to get much better.
Remind me not to order online ever again. I mean I could have been playing since monday night. But I still am marveless. I thought I had read that there was a 99% chance it would be here on release day.
Anyone else order from capcom unity? Have you got your copy yet if you did? What size do the t-shirts come in as?
GGs to bitq and Mikey tonight. You guys are gonna be beastin in no time. Just make sure every time you land a hit you can combo off of it for big damage. Super Skrull and Spiderman are pretty beastly. Might have to make a team with those two for an alternate.
So I finally am using the the “normal” button layout. It’s gonna still take some getitn used to but not too long. Deadpool/Zero/Sentinel is a dirty team and I’m lovin it. The only thing I don’t like is deadpools teleport mechanic. When you are on the left side you use H tele to go full screen and when you are on the right side of the screen you use L tele to go full screen. Oh yeah also that whole you blow up the third time thing is kinda stupid.
Elias Canceling block stun is awesome. When I see a zero or chun who just mashes normal strings or Legs I just x-factor->lvl 3 with deadpool. It does at least 70%. It works against Sent’s who like to you dash up cM too.
Zero is awesome. 500K dmg with 0 meter spent is cool for him considering he is considered not to be a big dmg char.
Sent is gross. I love him. I can’t wait until I get Fly/unFly down and start using his command grab. His assist is perfect for both zero and deadpool setups.
Yeah, of course GGs shred, and bitq too, that Arthur had me scared too many times lol. Spiderman is too much fun, couldn’t land shit online with anyone though haha. Oh, and I have no idea how to even approach Dark Phoenix yet.
Honestly. I lose to Phoenix too. Without a teleport character she can be a real cunt. I’m gonna pick up Spidey. He’s so fast! Had you landed even half the combos you started I would have been destroyed. JWong was beating with him earlier today too on the Level Up stream. Spidey and Wesker equal mad unblockables.
oh and Carlos… that mechanic is typical of many teleport characters. The button you push in relative to where on the screen you end up. L is the left, M is mid, and H is right.
