Damnnn Jem getting on that Marvel tip? Good shit, hit me up anytime. Shane’s got the numbers.
My initial thought upon playing the released version of MvC3 is that I want to stab my eyes out.
This game is trash, makes SSF4 look like a good fighting game
Tellem why u mad.
Super armor Hsien Ko assist is like Mecha Gief lariat. Except she can block when she’s on point!
Net net: fun game, but will probably be way better in the “MvC3: FTW ST” edition.
I like to analyze the negative aspects of things first. That lets me isolate those problems in my mind and then concentrate on the positives as I move forward.
- Assists staying offscreen ON A WIDESCREEN TV while assisting is garbage. (Watch Doom beam assist: gross.)
- The SHIELD helicarrier stage is a dick move combined with such juvenile 1st grade art style. It pains me. It’s too dark, too busy, and it’s the worst stage from any Capcom game that I can think of. I can’t believe Capcom had anything to do with that, and can only believe that some drugged exec forced them to use that stage designed that way. I shouldn’t have to make snap judgments about whether that’s a jet or my opponent’s projectile. I’ve hated this stage since I first played the PAX/Evo builds and I still hate it and I’m surprised it stayed that way. Every time you play this stage think about how a first grader would have drawn a flying battlebase. Lasers and jets absolutely everywhere, amirite? Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
- The Ghosts and Goblins stage is way way better and probably my favorite, but still: so busy. Why do I need all that visual noise? I feel like the artists were getting paid by the hour. It’s great work! Stop at some point!!! Brighten it up, get rid of a little of the noise, and celebrate an amazing job. Don’t just keep going! It’s as if you had just painted the Mona Lisa and then thought to yourself “what we need here now is a clown hat, several biker dudes in the background, a table with a collection of sequins, and ghost face killah makeup on Mona.” When you’ve done something great, stop! All that busy detracts from the good.
- These are the worst visuals of any Capcom produced game I can think of. The delineation between your character and the background is near non-existent, and I find myself wondering what the hell I’m supposed to be attacking or blocking. The few times there have been good visuals in this game, I’ve found myself really sadly excited.
- The balancing is retarded. Mind you this is me having played the game for half a day, but it’s either heavy runaway or heavy mashy rushdown.
- Your assist getting punished for 80% life for being called once to try to break down a keepaway loop is kind of sad, if not outright pathetic. Mind you this wasn’t any deliberate assist punish, this was just some random punish on Magnus.
- Lag tag is awful.
- Alpha counter move is awful.
- Assist lag is awful
- Tron’s random move rearrangement is painful.
- The new hitbox on Kobun capture is pathetic.
- Why would you take away Captain America’s double jump?!? It’s not like he’s Sentinel and needed to be nerfed oh wait right we gave Sentinel Captain America’s double jump because fuck you that’s why.
- I liked Taskmaster when he was called Nina in Samurai Shodown and I still love him and probably will be biologically forced to play him. But why is his launcher so random? Give him the classic Captain America launcher! Or let him steal it!
- Mashing works really well in this game. I was making things happen and I didn’t know why. Why do I want to win if I don’t know what I’m doing? Why do I want to lose if they don’t know what they’re doing? Mashing beats trying to play smart.
- Jump design is terrible.
- Superjump forward takes you straight up first then forward. Try this and watch what happens. Fuck you whoever thought that was a good plan.
- Dashing/moving forward is painfully slow and a good way to die. You can try to jump or superjump and oh wait those suck too. You’re unnecessarily fucked if you ever get pushed away for whatever reason.
- Floaty floaty floaty floaty. UGH. What the hell is wrong with the gravity?
- Not having A1 map to A2 when A1 dies: retarded.
- Haggar’s sprite is randomly horrible for being so close to great. I don’t get what that skin designer was thinking. I think they just rushed the texture on him, maybe? I wanted to pick him but I can’t pick Glossy Gief. If they fix his skin texture so that he doesn’t look like Baby Lotion Hakan, he’d be awesome.
- Kind of the same thing with She-Hulk: why are her legs so long?
- XFactor adds that delicious factor of russian roulette into the game. That’s actually NOT what I’m looking for in a fighting game.
- The air to ground / knockdown combos are depressing. That needs a counter move option. It’s like they looked at twenty years of Capcom design, threw it out, and decided “you know what screw it: normally we’d give the player some kind of risk/reward option here but because it looks flashy we’ll just always let it hit”.
- Shortcuts are awful. I repeatedly got supers off of QCF+L.
- Shortcuts are awful. I repeatedly got the wrong super off of QCF+L+M.
- Sentinel + 3 level XFC is a win button.
- Not persisting a changed starting character in the next match is random and dumb. I shouldn’t have to hold A1 every time.
- Cross-ups just aren’t working for me thanks to the floaty floaty gravity. Can my dudes wear moon boots so I know we’re on the moon?
- Why the fuck is the screen so wide? You really need that much room to fight through when dealing with keepaway? A lot of the aspects of screen and camera design boggle my mind.
- Damage is too high given all the OTG super dooper extendo combos that you can’t escape out of.
- I can’t tell when my assist is coming out or is out which means my really clever traps are failing and blah blah blah other awfulness. And then you HOLD assist to ensure it comes out and HA HA HA you tagged so fuck you.
- Tron only gets one air dash I hate you.
- Sent’s rocket punch hitbox is way wrong.
- It seems like they thought about what was broken and they wanted to fix in MvC2 and then overdid it and brought out the most annoying aspects of MvC2 instead by accident.
I like how Doom-B and Sent-Y are still awesome, yet Tron is nerfy. Really?
Those are my quick thoughts.
My thought from day one was that I’d look forward to MvC3.5: I think that I guessed right on that. The thing is that they have done an amazing job of rewriting the engine and implementing so much of this, and the current shortcomings in a great game are frustrating because there’s so many times when it seems close to excellence.
The game guide from Brady Games (and Buktooth!) is shockingly superb. It’s stunningly $20. This may be the best $20 you could ever spend related to fighting games. So good it’s Japanese.
I will likely simply enjoy watching for a while, since most the teams I’m winning with right now are just horribly cheap Sent-centric teams and I find that too lazy to be interesting.
I think this game is amazing, but the little things right now are breaking my brain.
WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!
Shots fired.
i think x factor is overpowered.
@Preppy: =[. I think Tron is great, I do agree about beacon beam’s hit box. it’s the size of a pea o_O? Instant Drill is awesome, and catching someone with a drill leads to four more drills (not mashed) and a lunch rush.
I do agree that they really weren’t thinking when trying to create Sentinel (again). But I don’t think the game is that bad (at least from a day one perspective).
I think they made they online shitty on purpose, to get people out of the house  Capcom.
The graphics are gorgeous.
The way assists work is pretty  Like…for reals, if A1 gets knocked out I still have to press the button for A2:wtf: I think it was there to make assists combos easier, because I can do them now. I don’t like it.
The “last pixel” shit makes me scratch my head. It’s been done in other games but it’s too obvious in this one. What made gave us “OMG HE SHOULD BE FUCKIN’ DEAD” moments is the fact that it was random, not planned…this much.
Why is button mapping retarded in this game? They** still** couldn’t learn from HDR and MvC2 Online? Backbone must have setup some kinda patent for that so if other companies want to use it they get paid like $978129371.69 at the very least.
Damn Zach I haven’t seen a post like that in a long time!! Good shit!
Damn, after Zach’s impressions I don’t even want to play this shit. However, I actually need a copy in my hands to dish out the hate. Until then easy mode OTGs por vida. Also, they need to fix the damage. Damn near killing someone with one bar is ridiculous.
EDIT
I saw that yipes vid on the front page, and if that guy is complaining about inputs you know something is wrong. His execution is amazing.
I don’t think the game is bad. It’s just frustrating because for in one moment you think wow that was incredible and then you think wow that is so terrible and you will vacillate back and forth.
The net net is that people with anger problems probably should not play against somebody with Sentinel or Phoenix as their third character. You will likely die of apoplexy.
This game is shit garbage. I don’t care about this trash at all so i’m just going to use MSP and will like a ***. Morrigan/ Sent/ Jean fuckin Gray
-this trash has auto correcting because it’s all about doing morrigans backdash into her command throw
-this trash has terrible stages
-this trash feels like nothing is being unraveled. Which mvc2 did…
-this trash is for the randoms which I understand
-this trash let’s doesn’t deserve my $$$
-this trash needs to be shipped to Korea & Russia
-this trash let’s people win off dumb shit
-this trash has a garbage button layout
-this trash has assist that are useless… Why is this fuk off the screen tossing fireballs
-this trash has sloppy fly mode, no skill needed
-this trash has K-groove aka x fagtor
-this trash has terrible lighting, barely able to see WTF is going on
-this trash won’t let you see what’s happening
-this trash requires no execution
-this trash has a garbage line… Really Modok??? Wasn’t that guy a peasent for dr. Strange. She-hulk that goon,
-this trash has some goofy ass music
I’m prob forgetting a few things
Totally randomly, I went back to MvC2 and the transition back is super smooth and easy since nothing really correlates. Nearly perfected a guy in ranked my first game back on that.
lol and got a Tron-on-point perfect in casual my second game back on casual. XD
Ugh, I haven’t played it yet. Still waiting on it to try for myself, BUT the ONE thing that I really did not want to hear was “Input Shortcuts”.
The only thing that can save this game is if Howard the duck is a dlc
Sent is a fucking monster. Other guys X-Factor through my scrubby shit and I still win with him, haha.
Saw what you guys were saying about the assists not showing up on screen. It’s gotten me out of a lot of shit
I wanna play one of you guys so I can start hating this game too. Until then I’ll keep scrubbing out wins.
I don’t think there are shortcuts in this game and if there is it isn’t stupid like SF4s shortcuts. To be honest I haven’t felt any problem with execution, everything I expect to come out does.
lol, bodied on its first day out.
