We Need More League of Legends Players

Protip: never play without your friends.

UPDATE: All out now (or I was the lucky bastard who won it and accidentally used it despite having the skin alreayd).

In case they put more up there, follow this twitter:

Check this, they’ve given maybe 1 each of the last 3 days. Hopefully they give more on the weekends.

If I was the only one who got it, I feel bad then…

Limited use “PAX JAX” Code. This code will expire soon, I accidentally redeemed it myself earlier (I already have PAX JAX).

CLG7JGNBTAZ4HD88

This was posted on Machinima Realm’s Twitter page today.

Open LoL Client, go to store, go to redeem code, past this in (ctrl-v or apple-v) and use it quickly. Limited supplies.

This code is first come first serve. I didn’t know it was a PAX Jax code. And well, PAX Jax will be worth a lot after PAX East (last year’s PAX Twisted Fate is upwards of 60-120 dollars for an actual card).

Then I just play against premades who use vent and have superior communication. Sad face.

What do you mean an actual card? This whole post is kinda confusing to me. What’s all out? I got the jist of the code thing but it doesn’t work already.

I got the code from twitter here. So yeah, this code was put out there on twitter.

If you went to PAX this year and got the standard goody bag, it included a card with a scratch off code to unlock Pax Jax (Jax as the Cardboard Tube Samurai) in League of Legends. If you talked to a Riot employee at the show, they also gave out cards for Riot Singed (Singed with a Riot Shield). Last year, at Pax, they gave out cards that had codes for an exclusive Pax Twisted Fate skin (which you can see go on ebay for too much, but actually sell for a pretty penny).

Pretty Gamer is also giving out a Pax Jax code here.

Played another mostly-satisfying match tonight

Our team actually lacked range damage in the lineup, so instead of playing Shen who I have been playing exclusively for a month now, I switched to Ashe and spent about 35 seconds redoing my masteries trying to get it all set before the game began. Fortunately that worked out.

I was partnered with a really good Alistair. We must have had 6 kills in the laning phase against semi-decent opponents. Whenever they extended too far we pretty much killed them. We did have an annoying Sivir though who wasn’t that good, but was kind of insulting everyone (it is Friday night, maybe it was a middle schooler). There was also a really good Zilian on our team, though he didn’t play as much support as I’m used to seeing, but he certainly did well in fights.

It was fun playing Ashe again after a month of tanking. I don’t plan to stop tanking, but I will say that playing as a tank seems to have made me much better as a carry. It might have been the best game I played as Ashe.

But there were frustrating moments with our match. Mainly two of the players were too happy to go killing and this caused a lot of team fights getting a little ugly if an opponent baited them–and also them leaving after we kill their heroes near their own towers–one of them was Yi, we could have used Yi to take down towers… but he wanted to gank.

They even had this stupid mission of killing Rammus first in fights and prioritizing that over everything else.

We wasted 20 minutes and almost lost our advantage because after we took down two inhibitors, two base towers, and two nexus towers… they wanted to go killing again! They figured we had this one, so no more work needed. So yeah, two more inhibitor respawns and a good amount of time to plow back through… not to mention our base did get broken into once during that time.

I guess the way to make them happy was we killed Baron and Yi finally decided it was time to charge the enemy base.

Good game because of Alistair and Zil. Frustrating because of Sivir (who left in the last 15 minutes) and Yi.

But it was still fulfilling and still awesome to get through all that.

People are stupid.

And Yi players are stupid. It’s like Ken in online SF4. Sometimes I queue dodge when people pick Yi. Usually I talk to them and try to gauge their level of stupidity. It’s too risky. Yi racist fo life.

I just played THE most ridiculous match I’ve ever played. I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, or never play the game again. It was 4v5 like all my matches lately (le sigh) and we were winning quite convincingly somehow. Then, WAY late into the game, our fifth rejoins and we lose. What is this I don’t even…

If the match had lasted another 5 seconds or so we would’ve won ‘cause I’d have panth ult’d to their nexus and finished it off. So close. I guess a level 6 garen feeding the enemy team didn’t really help us out. Fuckin’ A. Fuck fuck fuckin’ A.

You guys must only be getting these horrid 4v5 games in low level matches once you get 30 and play some ranked you shouldn’t have that problem very rarely at worst.

It’s mostly just me with all the bitching about 4v5 and random bullshit. Me and this game are beefin’.

lol u all mad.

No really, it’s mostly just me.

 1. Check out this videoclip:

 2. After a lousy match where teamfights weren’t going well (and my Shen was accused of not knowing Shen was a tank…)… I HAD AN AMAZING MATCH despite insane lag on my end (it’s rough when this happens, fights look like teleporter battles).

In any case, it was a close match where the other team was outfighting us, outplaying us… except… we had a good Yi who was able to tip it well. When the endgame started, they had us strongly on defense and were starting to penetrate our base. As we held them off on defense, one event happened that started allowing us to go on offense… Yi backdoored their base and took out an inhibitor.

That was enough for us to start the big push. I think being on D helped our team figure out some of our priorities so we did start to win a few teamfights and start to hang in there. We knocked their outer towers and three of us went for Baron. While the 3 of us went for baron, the other two were forced on D as they 5 man rushed the middle and did get a tower down. As our first base tower went down, we teleported back to base and proceeded to weed them out. More fighting ensued and we were able to take down their outer base towers and a couple of inhibitors. Things seemed to be going great!

And then suddenly, they did fight back well and took us out, got an ace and with that started destroying some towers. At some point, we lost all of our base towers and two inhibitors. We also lost our nexus towers… We did pretty well fighting them off, but now we were in a bad position and we had to be defensive. We were the only units that could defend our base…

Yi tells us to defend the base and he’ll backdoor their base. At some point he managed to take out the nexus towers (I think our super minions made their way in well when they pushed heavily on O earlier). Anyways, as we respawn at different times (the 4 of us on Defense I mean) we got hammered and destroyed. It was almost all 5 on 1 or 2 battles killing us all, taking out respawned inhibitors and it was pretty much over. Their team attacked our nexus with all 5 members and that nexus was going down fast.

I took a quick look at their base and there is Yi, about to take it down. It’s really close… I see a nexus blow up and I’m a little confused (because the healthbar didn’t look like it was at 0 at all) and… VICTORY!

Now I have seen what a good Yi can do…

Tip of the Day:

Check out the @Morello Thread at the Official LoL Forums.

It’s true that like most (but not all) official game forums, the LoL forums tend to be loaded with junk… But this thread is a great read if you’re curious about developer opinions and ideas for rebalancing characters and items in this game. Morello is the Lead Champion Designer.

When I read this thread, I don’t read all of it, I start with the last page and I work my way towards the front page (to the last post I had read) and I only read the red posts, particularly Morello’s replies. Side note: sounds like he’s a big Tekken fan and he is as hyped for Guild Wars 2 as I am (I was not at all hyped for the game until I saw it at PAX two weeks ago, where I considered it the game of the show by a longshot).

Though DotA has been around a long time to rebalance its roster over many years of iterative tweaks, LoL is a very different game that made some major differences and maybe (I wouldn’t know) implemented very different character design philophies. As has been normal in this genre, there will always be tweaks made to the roster on a very frequent basis, and there are major kinks to work out on just the balancing issue. I find this thread a great read with respect to all of that

Update: Well no wonder he’s hyped for GW2, he did some work on it. But seriously, Guild Wars 2 looks amazing live.

Really interested in seeing what they do to Evelynn, girl has got to be the worse champ in the game, gets hard countered by Wards.

Yeah she’s the worst by a longshot. Last thing I wanna see is stealth characters buffed though. >_> Irritating. Probably fun to play though. Almost picked up Shaco a couple times. Need less squishies though.

Yeah she sounded awesome & I was doing will till the eight minute mark, and then wards were placed pretyy much everywhere important and there wasn’t shit I could do, thankfully it was on my friends account who has almost everyone so I didn’t waste IP. Currently own Annie, Nasus, & Tristanna right now Got her for free, thinking about getting either Nidalee or Allistar right now. Allistar has his drawbacks Really shitty beginning & a mediocre at best endgame but the dude is invaluable during Team Fights if you play him right with Pulverize & Headbutt. Though Headbutting a Tryn in Endless Rage into your teammates is a bad idea which I forgot twice in a row >.>.

And yeah this weekend good god what the fuck was going on, every game was pretty much 3v5 seeing how most of the people on my friends list at the moment are East Coast so I was stuck doing Solo Que or I only had one friend with me.

Sometimes I hate that “Quick Reply” by default thing… accidentally erased a reply by clicking on “Reply To Thread” after typing the message… :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyways, I think the keyword was “weekend.” You get a lot more people, even more of certain demographics that don’t play as much on weekdays, and the server may even get hammered. For me, I definitely had some great matches this weekend, but probably a good deal of not-so-great ones too. That said, my biggest issue this past weekend was inconsistent lag which really messed my game up at times. This hadn’t been much of an issue except this past weekend and one other weekend awhile ago.

As for Alistair, in my limited experience, I like having an Alistair partner. He might not be the best tank, nor the best support, but I feel like he is something nice in between still. He’s kind of an assist machine with tower taking power. But my experience with Alistair partners have been limited, but this is what I’ve liked about playing with Alistair:

 • I love it when an Alistair player knows that he’s good at taking out enemy towers. He might not be Yi in this department, but he’s durable and can take some heat while doing it. This has led to some pretty speedy mid-game and quick-into endgame phases.

 • Especially when I’m playing as DPS, but even when playing as Shank, I’ve enjoyed having Alistair as a laning partner. Mainly because we can combine to make a very annoying harassment game against over aggressive lane opponents. This does have its limits when dealing with really good at range lane opponents though. But in blind-pick, I think the odds are decent we’ll be fine and can harass pretty good.

 • Pulverize + Headbutt is just great, though it requires alistair to be more proactive than say, blitzcrank’s grab or even Urgot crap. But a good Alistair does make excellent use of this (not that there’s much choice) and if the alistair player is really good at it–then he suddenly becomes more of a tank because he becomes less ignorable.

I really don’t have that much experience though… but to me, Alistair might not be the best tank or the best support (the assist type), but he’s something decent in the middle and I’ve always enjoyed playing with what seems like an outstanding Alistair player

Here are the patch notes for the Sora update. The game is scheduled to be back up at 11am (this one’s a long maintenance period, but 11am is probably a more realistic goal anyways given the recent server load and issues).

Here are the general client/game stuff (there are also a lot of champion and item specific stuff and of course the release of Sona):

Tip of the Day (Beginners):

Today’s theme is seeking knowledge (it isn’t understanding until you’ve applied it and figured it out well enough, and it isn’t wisdom until you’re a pro that’s turned it into part of your instincts).

Check out this link. It’s Gamereplays.org’s LoL Strategy section and it’s geared towards beginners.

As with fighting games, the strong players will fish their information from various sources and forums. But for beginners, it’s nice to have a depot of common skills and techniques. And currently, the LoL information is available but not easy to find. So this is a decent second stop imo.

Here are a couple of general resources. None of them are the be-all end-all of information for LoL:

Moba Fire
I like this site, personally. Clean interface, I’ve probably found better builds here than at League Craft but that really depends on the community more than anything.

League Craft
This place is decent for getting an idea of how different people are playing their characters. But just because a build is popular doesn’t always mean it’s the best one (sometimes it does too). Pay attention to the version numbers.

Runeterra
I’ve found some interesting, if sometimes overreaching, articles here and I have a sense that this place has a great balance of community, opinions, and even developer contact. I’m checking it more often these days.

Solo Mid
Found good detailed information here from time to time. The people that write here sound very competitive though.

About the Wiki’s (Wikia and CompleteLoL)
I haven’t found them to be as good for LoL as they are for some other games. They aren’t bad, but they feel like they’re not updated as quickly and I’m not always finding what I’m looking for. Part of it is because things aren’t always so cut and dry in LoL and so an “encyclopedia” isn’t quite your best resource for insight in how to play as opposed to knowing traits and stats. Wiki’s are awesome for games like the Monster Hunter series (the Monster Hunter Wikia is just awesome), but they’ve rarely been the best way to handle competitive games until you break those games into a science. And LoL has not been broken down into a science yet, as far as I can tell.

Another place to check out for players of various skills (probably the better players) is the new blog section of SoloMid.Net. I haven’t spent too much time at SoloMid, though I’m guessing there is a little bit of eliticism there, but that happens all the time for all games anyhow.

As long as there’s no way to abuse this +1000 magic resist upon disconnection (like finding a way to d/c and come back and keep it) that’s pretty cool. No more free snipes.

Alistar is the shit. IMO he makes up for his lack of damage output with his ability to push towers. A passive that boosts tower damage and the only spell I’m aware of (not including summon spell Heal) that heals minions? I hate hate hate early game laning though. Headbutt is a fun harass but if your laning opponent has any range, you’re too slow to usually keep up with their damage output. I was gonna buy him then he was free last week. May buy Rammus now to try him out.

Most the characters I buy end up free the next week, actually. v_v

Wonder who’s up on the freebie list this week.

I reinstalled in hopes that my cooldown timers displaying incorrectly gets fixed. I will probably stop playing this game if it doesn’t fix it. It’s just that irritating.

EDIT: lmao yep. I almost bought kassadin and nidalee and look who’s free this week. Ugh at miss fortune being free though. I bet she’ll be in every single game. Fuck that ho.

Man, solo Laning as Annie against MF is not fun, Jesus that Richochet shot fucking hurts. Vlad is also free this week so that’ll be annoying.
