We Need More League of Legends Players

Server Stability Round 3
Riot is implementing a couple of new measures to deal with the stability issue that’s been happening the last couple of weeks and also to keep the community informed.

  • There’s now a ticker that keeps players in the game informed of the server’s status.
  • Riot now has a server side feature they call “The Button” which basically mitigates negative effects to accounts when server problems get out of hand and are likely to cause abnormal game losses. Players will not know when “The Button” is in effect, but basically what will happen is you will not lose your ELO Points or spot in ladder. You will also still gain XP/IP to some amount.

Laning against Miss Fortune is definitely a pain. Ricochet completely changes the dynamic and how you have to approach the harassment. Either be much more aggressive or much more passive–it’s rough. Furthermore, the way ricochet can go off at any angle within a 180 degree spread. It’s nuts.

I will admit that the majority of MF’s I’ve played with or against have been incredibly… umm not good. But I’m really worried about encountering a good MF.

I just got out of a game that we ended in 19 minutes because the other team was so terribad.

Jungle control is great.

Northwest Tip of the Day:

This comes from Hawk who posted this in the General LoL discussion (and is a cool guy to chat with in the SRK room on LoL also).

I have only heard good things about this standalone client. It’s also kind of funny that it’s not official, but it’s the top sticky on the EU LoL Forums’ Help & Support board.

From what everyone who has used it has told me, this is what you should expect from using this:

  • Big performance improvements. Some people had consistent latency problems and this client addressed that.
  • The ability to change your “recommended items” in the shop (in-game). This is an awesome feature I felt a need for on day one because you can put your ideal item layout in there and it makes getting your items a much faster process than traversing the click-only menus (I wish they’d let me use keys). Extra kick-ass is that this is set for each champion.
  • You can rescale aspects of your UI which is always a great thing in RTS and MMOs imo.
  • The downside is that they have to update the client every patch so expect a day or two of using the “old client” whenever a big patch comes out.

I haven’t used it yet, but I probably will start using it soon!

I’m pretty excited about the WCG Grand Finals!

It will be interesting to see how it plays out as so many things are unknown and each team seems to have their own story. I’ll probably be posting (and maybe reposting older) links to various sources of information and commentary.

For today, I’ll post something that was a pleasant surprise for me today and is probably the most mysterious of the teams competing in the tournament:

There are finally known links to the Chinese WCG Qualifier Tournament!

A lot of people in the West haven’t seen how the Chinese are playing their LoL much (though I’m sure the videos are out there). But when you have a big tournament with a lot of promotion going on, you hope you’ll see the top teams compete there. So here are videos from the Chinese Qualifiers:

Day 2 Matches
Day 3 Matches
Day 4 Matches

Source (Thanks Taygeta for posting these)

And here is a link to written coverage of the whole event:

Official Wrapup of the Chinese Qualifiers.

You have to love the official chinese site for lol: LoL dot QQ dot Com How much jargon do you want to put into a URL?

DO NOT FORGET: If you use the Google Chrome browser, you can have it translate the Chinese text to English text for you!

Weird News: Apparently both the European and the Chinese teams have had to sub-in a couple of players because of Visa problems. This has happened in international gaming competition before, so it’s not completely rare or unusual. Though it is unfortunate…

Haha, I guess my computer can run LOL if I boot into Windows.
My name is ‘Incruentum,’ and I’m terribad at this.
Come see my page of three tier-1 runes.
How to last hit plz. :C

Also kind of annoyed at the rate of IP gain, but I guess that’s how it has to be. I got to level 5 in a day, so… maybe it’s not that bad. I’m sure the upper tiers will take longer. I’m in no hurry. Kinda scared of the big fish.

League of Legends IP Boost Giveaway

Free IP boost. Also don’t buy Tier 1 Runes, waste of

Welcome to the game man!

If I could do things over again, I probably would have not bought Tier 2 runes at all (I bought some for levels 10-14). Mainly because a lot of people actually don’t use Runes until level 20 anyways, when you can finally buy Tier 3 runes. And those T3 runes are hella expensive! So I’ve been saving up for a T3 rune spree when I hit level 20 (I’m at 18 right now). Tier 1 runes aren’t that bad though and they boost you a bit, but you can still save IP.

I’m trying not to take the matches too seriously during this leveling phase though, just considering it all “education until ranked play.” But of course most people you play with are competitive, and you’ll be playing as serious as well, just that in the grand scheme of things–Solo Queue matches just don’t matter as much as Level 30 Ranked Matches  It still baffles me that people may Rage Chat or Rage Quit during Practice Games.

That said, keep it up and looking forward to playing sometime!

**Tips on Last Hitting: **

  • #1 It’s easier to last hit with a range-character than a melee character (unless you lose a skill to last hit). Melee characters have to walk around stuff, range characters simply have to be within striking range and hit/click a button.

  • #2 It’s best to try to limit your attacks to JUST THE LAST HIT. This means not to auto-attack down a minion, not to beat it up all the time. There are two very clear reasons why this is good: a) It makes last hitting the minion easier actually–you’re accounting for the timing of your minions’ attacks on that minion and only one of your attacks which you should get a quick feel for. b) This improves the odds that the laning will occur closer to your tower–this might seem backwards at first but YOUR tower scares YOUR OPPONENT away a bit and puts them in a dangerous place to be laning (if they do a single attack to you, that tower will target them).

  • At first, **I started with stopping my character by pressing ‘S’ ** This helped me get a feel for the timing of attacks (and the feel for lag if needed).

  • I did eventually progress to right-click micro-movements and then timing when to go in to attack. Because I use a melee character most of the time now, it took awhile to get comfortable with this. HOWEVER, in the long run, moving around is important for minimizing your opponent’s harassment and in helping you harass the opponent–it’s also good in the same way footsie is good in Street Fighter.

  • If you get good at “Only Last-Hitting” (not auto attacking), then you will eventually get a feel for how much damage your tower will do to minions and how fast. The last skill I developed in last-hitting was getting used to last hitting minions that were being hit by my tower, but it’s a great skill you will build over experience.

Raptor: DANGIT! I didn’t check the forums for one morning and I miss out on the IP Boosts!

I was reading a topic about the rune combiner, and essentially if you’re gamblin’ man, it can be tight. 75 ip for five of the cheapest tier 1s for a tier 2 rune… 75 x 5 = 375 ip for five tier 2 runes… considering some of the tier 3s are like 1 or 2k or something… hey you could win out. maybe for people who play a lot of characters and don’t need a dedicated rune set right away. I wish I thought of it… Perfect for Elias “character ADD” the Flyest…

I was excited for the Free IP Boost, I was just not at home the entire day :frowning:

Hey Chanchai - I know its a bit of work, but do you think we could get an edit on the first page with player names?

I keep on seeing this snowball. I keep finding more players…

Tier 1 runes are great for their cost. Don’t buy tier 2, they’re very cost ineffective. Tier 3 is the best you can get, so when you start maxing out, get those.

Great idea, but I like to make it an Opt-In thing

IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE THEIR LoL USER ID’s (along with their SRK Nickname) PUT ON THE FRONT PAGE, STATE YOUR DESIRE FOR IT IN THIS THREAD WITH YOUR LOL ID AND I WILL PUT YOU ON THE ROSTER!

Put mine on the front page,

Current Nasus build

Anyone got any critiques for my current Nasus build

Summoner’s Spells
Ghost & Exhaust

Runes:
Armor Penetration Marks
Evasion Seals
Clarity Glyphs
Fortitude Quints

Masteries
21-0-9

Core Item Build
Meki Pendant> Chalice, mainly using this right now seeing how I have limited access to runes
Boots> Ninja Tabi if heavy on Physical DPS, Mercury Treads if heavy on Magic
Sapphire Crystal> Sheen, Makes Soul Siphon Melt even faster
Cloth Armor or Null Magic Mantle> Aegis of the Legion

Now from here I build depending on the opposing team makeup

DPS if Off Tank
Sheen> Trinity Force, usually pick up Phage before TF to make it easier to get
Zeal, I like the added movement speed & crit chance, can really make a Soul Siphon Powered up hit hurt especially if the target is in Spirit Fire & Exhausted
Sell Chalice> Manamune, I’m a jerk
Sunfire Cape

If by some chance I have to do main tanking vs Heavy DPS
Chain Vest> Frozen Heart
Guardian Angel
Warden’s Mail

VS Magic Damage
Guardian Angel
Force of Nature
Banshee’s Veil

VS Mix of the two
Guardian Angel
Raduins
Banshee’s Veil

Here’s a great post by Elementz on the LoL boards that was also referenced on Runeterra.

Some good, basic reminders for people playing solo queue.

Hyfe’s guide on Nasus is a really good place to start.
Leaguecraft :: League of Legends (LoL) Nasus Guide :: Hyfe’s Guide to the Competitive Nasus by Hyfe

Personally, I would prefer x-x-21 with Nasus. Meditation alone solves a LOT of early game mana problems with Nasus. Meditation is a per second increase, not a per 5 second increase, so its a lot more effective than it seems.

One way to solve your mana problems early game is to Ult the Golem at level 6 if no one has taken it yet. You’ll be able to push like mad, and constant Withers and Spirit Fires will be plenty annoying.

Everything else is pretty much straight up Nasus though. The only change I would recommend is that you should go for Banshee’s Veil before Sheen against a mixed team if you’re the main tank, since the HP, MR, and spell shield combined is so great.

Please post my ID: Incruentum.
Warning: I’m ‘amusing tier’ for now.
Considering trying to play a tank or something, just because I find last-hitting with them to be easier.

Here’s a nice Interview with Another Story by Rinoa (Riot staff member and member of team PMS North America) from the League of Legends boards.

Another Story will represent Southeast Asia (SEA) at the WCG Grand Finals next weekend. Though SEA is the least-developed region in LoL, I found this interview quite interesting, especially since all the players are very new to the game and most are still competing in DotA.

My favorite part:

Nice read, coincidentally just downloaded DotA, plan on trying it out soon after I read a bit more.

I’m interested in trying to set up custom items for my champions. It seems like at least one of the ‘recommended’ items for any champion will seem dumb to me, and I rarely have enough time to just browse through the shop. But I guess the latest version has broken ‘league tools’ and stuff like that. If there’s still a way to customize them, please let me know. Or if not, let me know when somebody figures something out.

GGs, man the players here are such dickwads.

Personally i use League Craft to plan out builds.
