I was surprised that I wasn’t destroyed in that game quicker. Probably because I didn’t play against Ian :wonder:
Playing that game like ST makes me wanna play ST. Even though the game is sooo effed up.

Cvs2 is effed up? What are you talking about?
Naw, ST is. Sorry for the poor phrasing. CVS2 works extremely well, and is probably among the more balanced games there are. That said, I don’t really like the footsies battles in CVS2, or its pacing, but it’s still fun, and very challenging competitively.
All fighting games have the “footises” aspect. Bottom line is that in every fighting game, a player has to know how to zone. Its just that Cvs2 gets quite boring when all you’re doing is playing footsies. So use characters’ that are more fun. Use K or N groove, something that’ll cause you to use play more with momentum rather then zoning. Buk uses it fairly well.
It’s more balanced than some but I wouldn’t really call it all that balanced. I guess roll canceling helps the lower tiers out but still, why not just RC good shit like tiger shots and electricity? And spam s.hk with Cammy? haha.
Roll cancelling is NOT as much of a problem as you’re making it. And RC tiger shots are not good at all. I don’t understand why so many people think that Roll Cancels break the game. There are ways around RC’ing, ways to beat it…at the same time, there are also ways to abuse it.
You play 3s right? How is roll cancelling any worst then Urien’s unblockables? Or Makoto madness? For better example…Chun spams c.forward all day, obviously there’s more game play to her than this right? It’s the same with Cammy.
See I don’t agree with this. In every fighter, you use you’re character’s strengths to take out you’re opponents weaknesses.
I hate that everyone says this game is broken because of RC. Infinites are cheap, unblockables are broken, fireball spamming is unfair…people find ways to fight against it right? So what’s the difference with RC?
I think RCs make the game way more interesting. And they fuck up P-groove which is always a good thing.
to play devil’s advocate, does RCing any of Kyosuke’s moves actually help out against the top tiers in this game? Kyosuke was a character i actually enjoyed using at some point or another until this game was found out. i just want you to impart some knowledge of this game to answer me this question and others if i can think about them fast enough.
I think this is a good point. So far, I love the way CVS2 feels. It is very familiar and I feel like I can pick it up almost instantly.
The way people talk about it now, it seems like it is on its way out of the competitive scene, which is a shame, because I am suddenly really interested in it.
RC fireball is the only way to go, besides like canceling it off cr.hp, st.hp…
RC flip kick is really good anti-air as well… it’s airblockable but that ain’t so bad. He’s probably best in C or K. K is good cause jd is useful for him, plus if you learn to combo to raged Remix super it does tons of damage.
if i knew how to play cvs2, i would.
Holy fuck dude, calm down. I didn’t say roll canceling breaks the game, I just think it’s fucking stupid. First off, I play 3s - I don’t like it. Nor do I talk about it like it’s a good game. The only thing worse is this game. :bgrin:
Secondly, Urien’s unblockables actually aren’t very hard to get out of if you know how to parry them. If you know your opponent will try to parry it you can try to mixup the timing but that’s about it. And Makoto sucks because option select high parry = you win. Makoto just overwhelms players who don’t know how to play her. She has ONE combo starting from low and if you block it it’s a free combo and there goes your momentum.
Way to completely read into what I said in the wrong way. I was talking about the balance, and how roll cancel could help the shitty characters be better, but then I said why not just play a top tier character with BETTER roll cancelable moves. I know fucking tiger shot isn’t that good. I’m not whining about it being broken. It is my personal biggest reason for not liking the game, as I can’t stand games that abuse glitches to be the most effective, but that’s irrelevant.
My advice? Forget Kyosuke even exists. Using him will only serve to frustrate you.
The thing about CvS2 is that it’s a hard game to play/learn. I think it’s got a high learning curve. It can be unforgiving as well. I think that that game moreso than any other competitive fighter out, is acquired taste. If you can see the beauty in footsies, custom combo madness, roll canceling, and very slow gameplay then by all means play CvS2. I think those things deter most people and that’s completely understandable, it’s not for everybody. I think that’s why the game is rumored to not be at Evo 2009. People that are coming in and trying to learn the game having mainly played other games, need to remember to play CvS2 like it’s CvS2. Don’t come in and play like it’s 3S, don’t come in and play like it’s KOF, or any of the other games/subsystems the game is trying to mimick. It’ll only cause you grief. Play within the game’s rules and it can be fun. That’s what I think anyway, but I play K Cammy because she’s easy and K Groove can be brainless at my skill level lol.
Well put. I was trying to think of a way to let Brent know that he will get absolutely stomped for quite a while and it might be frustrating, without sounding like I’m just hating on the game. I think anyone can think it seems like a really fun game, until you lose to someone who’s decent but plays the top tier well. If you add in roll cancel it’s even more deterring. But like you said, if you like slow thought-out footsie type gameplay, along with combos relying on 1 & 2 frame links, then it’s all you baby.
I never tried to attack you…I’m just hating all the hate towards the game.
I didn’t mean to sound snappy in return, my bad. Sorry bro, in retrospect I sounded all angry and shit. My point was I wasn’t intentionally making RC out to be a huge problem.
How is RC electricity not broken? That shit is bananas.
Kyosuke is awesome.
All the links in CvS2 make the combos fun. A lot of them aren’t overly difficult either.
I think one of the main problems with CvS2 is that certain normals are just too buff and it ends up messing up the pacing of the game (see top tier). It’s also hella ugly to me that run has recovery frames.
Word, and word. RC electricity is definitely broken. I’d assume roll canceling honda’s slaps is pretty brutal too.
I totally agree with the certain normals being too buff. As much as I bitch about roll cancel, I’m pretty sure that’s my biggest beef with the game. I just can’t compete with Sakura/Cammy/Sagat/Blanka’s beefy pokes with the characters I like to play.
That is the truth right there…
Anyways, if we could get done with the gripes with the game…i’m ready to lay down some information and all if anyone needs it.
So I replaced a character on my team…I was sporting P Kyo/Sagat/Cammy2. But I was getting REALLY annoyed with Sagat. He’s a great character but that’s the extent of it…he’s SOOO immobile, and P groove needs all the mobility it can get. So I replaced it with Rock. Now he isn’t to great in P groove…best in K…However I really like playing him mainly because he’s fun. Mandel definitely told me that me playing P rock is gross…but seriously he’s so damn good.
Instead of those JD after the shoulders…I get parry into knock down…knock down leads into setup for 360 throw…I dunno I’m working on him right now…we’ll see how it goes.
I actually like to play kyosuke in s-groove since I can spam his super fb at the corner against k and p-grooves…lol THERE IS NO ESCAPE if you do it smartly, but the hard part is that you have to make sure you don’t get killed before your life bar flashes…lol
but if you really want to rc with kyosuke, then play a-kyosuke and spam the rc uppercut in the corner when you have the bar. if it hits, then it’s free cc. and after a while, ppl would try to roll out of the corner, and then you just punish with c. jab x 2 into uppercut into cc. just my 2 cents~
