"We must get back through the portal and CLOSE IT!" Doctor Strange Team Thread

I wonder if it’s better to go Nemesis (Launcher Slam) / Strange (Daggers) / IM (Unibeam).

In addition to Strange being bad solo, I switched the order up since Iron Man has an air dash so he can use his mobility to open people up in XFactor mode should it come down to that. Also, I put IM on Unibeam since I feel Strange needs some form of horizontal space control and Nemesis has you covered close up with Launcher Slam or you can do it yourself with Eye of Agomatto on point. Strange on assist with Eye doesn’t seem good since Nemesis has tentacles for close range control. I also tried Bolts and it could work since tentacles from Nemesis hit overhead and some people will just duck the Bolts. Try both, see which works better for you.

**Plus, Nemesis does big damage with minimal meter and Doctor Strange does good damage but even better damage with combos ending in Astral Magic.

been messing with Strange (eye)/Modok (barrier)/Doom (beam)

I only use eye so that I have a easy way to combo jamming bomb

I’ve been using Wesker - OTG gun / Strange - Eye / Dormammu - Dark Hole.

It’s been working wonders. Strange’s Eye assist extends Wesker combos easily, and if missed, can easily set up for teleport mixups since it stays out so long.

With Strange on point, Dark Hole locks opponents in blockstun long enough to set up an Eye, DoD M or a few Grace’s from long range without punishment. If you get an Eye out, Palming it gives you almost enough time to use an assist again, which leads to nice chip damage, and an opportunity to stay safe.

indeed strange is pretty bad when hes solo WITHOUT meter, but if hes got meter he does alright.
more importantly, his assist is too good to not put him as anchor on a whole bunch of teams. bolts is top 3 rushdown assists, eye is top 3 defense assists, daggars isnt as good but probably still in the top 5 teleport assists

Before in vanilla i never really played a teleport character, and now with strange i feel like i’ve fallen into one of the scrubbiest habits you can with teleporters and thats just constant teleport cross-ups. I still use the fake out teleport in front but when i look back at my games it feels like i’m just teleporting recklessly and calling assist that get tagged more often than not. but i started implementing fly to open people up so hopefully it counter acts the excessive porting.

I currently have Deadpool / Strange / S. Hiryu.

I was wondering if it’d be better have Strange and Deadpool switch places, and also which would be the preferably assist for them both to use?

I was thinking maybe if Strange is on point, then Katana-Rama assist could be used with Agamotto to extend combos (or just use the Hogoth + Faltine OTG?), and should I ever pull Hiryu out, he can slide OTG and call in Strange’s Agamotto to keep going.

On the other hand, with Deadpool on point (using Quick Work instead), the Balthakk beams could help control space along with Hiryu’s Vajra and Deadpool’s guns.

Thoughts?

personally I don’t like running zoning chars on point, especially if they don’t have meter stocked. with Katana-Rama assist Strange can extend his combos without the need for an OTG Grace so basically every time you land an Impact Palm you basically get 2 free Y Graces that you can use later on for your mixup. IMO that’s not really needed though since Strange can still get Graces as long as he’s behind an EoA and has a projectile assist backing him up (Doom is amazing for this). I don’t exactly know what the durability for Trigger Happy assist is but I’d give it a shot since you could probably use it both for mixups and covering Strange while getting an EoA out.

So you’re saying don’t use Deadpool on point? I think he’s pretty good at building meter, plus it’s not too hard to stock some up with with a TAC.

Anyway, I might pop Strange in the middle of X-23 and Doom since I’m trying to find a nice complement for them both, I actually think Strange might go well there especially considering Doom has that Plasma Beam, as has been previously mentioned, and the Eye of Agamotto assist could I think prove complementary to X-23’s feint tricks.

not necessarily. not gonna lie, I don’t have too much experience with Deadpool so I’m not too sure if he builds meter well or not. I would still play Strange on point though, as him being backed up by assists is a lot more dangerous than Deadpool backed up by assists. he benefits from extensions from his long combos and moreover he can protect himself from opponents trying to ruin his Graces setup if you call a beam assist + EoA. Strange builds a ton of meter just by kicking back and putting stuff on screen, which you can then use to your advantage. basically as long as Strange has meter the opponent can’t do anything stupid or that means an SoV whiff punish or a 7 Rings to punish projectiles.

strange/hulk/sent

hulk AA helps strange a bit to relieve pressure off of him.

Hello. I’m looking to build a usable team with Spiderman, Iron Man and Strange. My original composition was to have Spidey(Web Ball) on point, Strange(Bolts of Balthakk) second and Ironman(Repulsar Blast) as third. So it’s actually a Spidey team with Bolts covering him getting in and Repulsar for combo extension and mixups (and occasional teleport buster). What I want to know is which spot is more viable for Strange. The second or the anchor? Because I feel like Ironman is absolutely helpless rushing down in Ultimate without someone backing him up. I can actually win a match after I lose Spidey when Ironman has Bolts covering his dashes. Then again Strange gets some help from Ironman too as Repulsar puts a temporary bubble on him so I can put out Graces or teleport and such. I admit it’s not safe or anything, but it still deters people from moving/acting.

All in all though… I’m kind of aware of how weak Strange is without help. It’s just a hard decision between him and Ironman as anchor. At least Strange has the Spell of Vishanti to start up his momentum with XF3. Ironman in this game is even less anchor material than in Vanilla… in my opinion. Granted, I’ve had very limited time to test things out (especially in the field) so maybe I’m wrong on my points. Should I consider other assist choices even? I’m something of a character loyalist so replacing the good doctor with the bad doctor is not an option, if you know what I mean.

Anchor Strange is overhyped. . If you’re going to do anchor Strange you might as well just do anchor Dormammu who is completely better. Sure Strange has good assists but not good enough to warrant how easy it is to deal with anchor Strange. All they have to do is run to the corner and you can’t do anything but chip while they pushblock your chip. All of Strange’s projectiles need assist coverage to not get blown up since the tracking projectiles go away if he gets hit. If the opponent sees you put out graces they’re just going to run to the corner and then no more mix up and you have to go back to chip. Strange anchor only works if you only have to fight like 1 person. If you gotta fight 2 or 3 people and they know how to shut down anchor Strange…good luck cuz you’re gonna need it.

Strange second activating XF2 with an assist is a much better plan than giving him no assist so all of his moves are just unsafe and he’s just mashing on supers like Hulk as anchor. You get an assist that lets you deal with pushblocks which gives you time to set up high/low mix ups with flight if they try to run to the corner against your mix up. Without an assist you’re not getting somebody off of block with Strange if they go to the corner.

None of Strange’s assists are going to suddenly make Iron Man this force of a character. All of Strange’s assists have some issue that either don’t give Iron Man what he needs to get in or allows him to get in but won’t lock people down like you need either. You might as well just turn on XF and go nuts with the high/lows. Strange’s assists are great secondary assists to use with another assist that is your main but unless you’re playing a lame out character you can’t totally rely on Strange’s assists. They all have bad start up and recovery.

The main problem with your team is you have too many characters that need help on point and you don’t have a character like Doom or Magneto in the back that can provide a universal assist like a beam that will help them all out and be a force of an anchor as well. Your team crumbles too quickly if you lose Spider Man making it only strong from the front.

If you want to use those characters though you might as well put Strange as anchor because Spider Man is garbage unless he’s on point and Repulsor Blast is not a fast enough assist to allow Strange to mix up while he’s buying time for everything else. It’s not really ideal but, if the team does well from the front you’ll be fine. Overall SpiderMan/IronMan/Strange is a very useable team but it’s basically a team where it’s nice as long as Spider Man’s alive, but decreasingly easier to fight for the opponent as soon as you lose Peter.

so what would be the “best teamates” for Dr.Strange?

I nominate Hulk, his gamma charge anti-air do wonders to Strange defense, and Spell of Vishanti DHC perfectly into Gamma Crush and Gamma Quake. Eye of Agamotto is also one of the best assists for Hulk, the pressure of the eye plus Hulk lurking near is amazing.

Since serpentaurus covered defense, I’ll cover offense. IMO best assist would be Magneto beam or Hawkeye arrows, really any beam or fast horizontal assist. I use Doom’s beam, and it works great, but for BEST I’d nominate disruptah or arrows.

Edit: Also, sphere flame DHC to SoV is sexy

Hey I wasnt sure if this was known or not but this is a pretty cool ender with Hidden Missiles assist and Doctor Strange.

(Call Hidden Missiles right before you launch ) j. m j. h impact palm j. s (land) Eye of Agamotto (impact palm the Eye to get more hits) l. daggar of denak then end with SOV

two days ago, I saw a video that shown the synergy between Doom and Strange. I was so impressed by this, I want to try them out but who would be my 3rd? since last week, Ive been “infatuated” with Frank West. I wasnt going to play with him but since I have, I cant stop playing him. So Im going to use FW|Strange|Doom as my second team. Since I havent even try the team out yet, I’m going over the synergy in my head. here are my thoughts;

Tools of survival > Shopping cart: As good as the Shopping cart assist is, it wont help out strange. SC pushes the opponent to the corner. Strange needs a lock down assist so he can do his port mixup. This is where the tools of survival assist comes in, because not only does it locks them down, it pulls them toward Frank, thus gives Strange time to Port behind them. Also lvl 4/5 ToS assist mixed in with EoA is some very frightning chip damage!

EoA assist helps Frank greatly. I’m thinking that if I go through my FW combos I was going to need a low attacking assist (GR’s hellfire | Weskers Samuari edge| etc) to keep it going, but I found out that at lvl 2, Frank’s heavy drop kick OTGs and is low hitting. I can use that into EoA and then continue my combo which in turn allows me to use…

Doom’s Beam assist instead of Rocks. I was going to use Rocks to help Frank out with his dilemma on continuing his combos to level up, but now that Strange took care of that issue, I can now focus on Franks other issue, Getting in. Doom’s Beam helps both Strange and Frank in the Zoning beam wars and can also help them both to advance (Rolling & porting) to the opponent. I think Im on to something here…

Dante, Doom & Wesker are the front runners. Followed by

Hulk, Dorm. Storm, Ghost Rider & Magneto

[IMHO]

I also really like hawkeye, they have this really great flow about them, and strange benefits from his triple arrow and hawkeye benefits from the EoA. plus thats to pretty fast punish supers… I main Hawkeye Strange Doom and doom has hidden missles. i find that i can mix and match my team with any spot but i don’t like strange as anchor unless i have meter and XF.
