"We must get back through the portal and CLOSE IT!" Doctor Strange Team Thread

Honestly Torn I think that team is one of the absolute best in the game. The thing about it that makes it better than team NorCal, to me, is 1. Bolts > missiles to me at this point ( player’s movement has hit a point where that assist just isn’t that special anymore and so many people run beams–disabling the assist entirely). 2. I know this seems wacky to a lot of people but the team also allows you to play point Vergil. Considering how many people play characters on point that are bad for Mags nowadays that’s helpful. And quite Frankly Vergil with bolts, disruptor, and meter + kills via FOF hard tags is absurd. I think point Vergil might be the future (unfortunately lol).

I still think missiles is the best assist in the game and probably Strange’s best assist. Not only does it allow for zoning, it allows for easy impact palm confirms and provides that combo breaking insurance when Strange inevitably gets opened up. Strange / Disruptor seems nice, but missiles far better IMO. Also, since Doom requires no x factor to do 1 touch kills as anchor, you can blow x2 on Strange every time and not be too affected. Mags anchor is weak if he doesn’t have x factor available. Vergil Bolts Missiles is my recommendation.

I play Thor/Doom/Ammy currently and slowly making my transition to Strange instead of Doom and I’m having trouble understanding the Strange/Ammy game plan. Playing Doom as the easy way out poisoned me.

To get a stronger use of Strange and to just sort of flush out some of the doom quicker I’ve started playing him on point but he’ll ultimately end up in the middle.

Outside of a random TAC should I be keeping the fights with Strange/Ammy on the ground? and let the enemies who super jump and fly in the fall into traps with graces & teleport on their way down and reset the situation?

I may be playing a little too aggressive and should be more patient

Haha, thanks for the feedback guys. I thought this exactly as a version of team NorCal, but with the super-super stuff, and bolts instead of plasma beam. I dont have any intention in running Vergil on point (Magnus is my dude, he is a stayer as much as Stephen is), but I can see where you guys are coming from.

My doubt has been on the order. This team’s weakness - in comparison to let’s say MagDoomVergil is the incoming options for both Strange and Vergil, but most mixups are either possible to block or ridiculous enough for an extra movement tool to be useless.

:3

Hey, are there any good players who run Strange/Dormammu/Doom?
Looking for someone who will have videos of their gameplay so that I can watch/learn from it.

I dont have any gameplay, but I got something cool. 0 meters, killing Thor and making the bonus one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lk0USOnlEc

That’s my team!!!

I run Doom(Missiles)/Dorm(Liberation)/Strange(BoB) but depending on the matchup, I will also run Dorm(Liberation)/Strange(BoB)/Doom(Missiles). The 2nd team is ideally the correct order but sometimes the start of the round is too difficult for Dorm so I’ll start Doom.

I don’t have gameplay vids but if you’re on XBL you can play me, I’m pretty decent.

Gamertag: LACris88

That is literally the same combo I learned just before I checked the forums lol. (Couple slight variations like standing H instead of Cr.H and no air H to start flames loop, other than that, exact same without the THC ender)
I was having a slight problem with it in terms of having him too high when I launched him of doom for the flames loop if my timing was slighty off, causing my IP to miss so I’ll probably try out the Air H and see if that helps
Best part about that combo is you can do it from almost full screen (you being in the corner), but its literally the same combo if you do it even slightly away from the corner with the exception of a delayed air S so missiles hit in time. I’m sure theres a way to do it with you in the corner too, but I havn’t really done much work off starting a flames loop without enemy in corner from the 3 air series.

Yeah the main thing I am looking for is how to play the neutral game, which is my big weak point. I can learn combos relatively quickly but cant learn neutral game in practice mode xD

Personally I like dark hole over liberation by far. Havn’t got stranges incoming timing on it right quite yet but you can calling dark hole and jumping up, forcing block, then teleport in front or behind as they fall in seems like a pretty good to make them have to guess. And you can keep them in the corner both ways since you can teleport 2 times before the dark hole will run out into a simple Cr.H, IP, L sword, and 2x air series. And if they blocked the dark hole mixup, they will also have to block the Cr.H depending on which side you teleport to/teleport 2ce to.

Also something that might be good, if they are locked down you can tiger-knee your flight so you are in the air while still practically touching the ground, and either go S,Cr.H for a very quick overhead/low, or cancel flight into an instant cr.H if you want to mess with them.

Well if you’re playing Strange/Dorm/Doom, then Dark Hole is great, but when my Strange is on screen, that usually means Dormammu is dead and Dark Hole is useless for Doom since he has access to BoB. I only use Liberation for 1 reason, which is countering my opponent’s x factor, especially x3 Vergil/Strider/Phoenix. Having Volcano charged against these chars. is extremely powerful because they have to respect your assist call since Volcano always comes out and against Doom it means death if they get hit. Actually means death against Strange too if I still have x factor available and 1 bar. This team can really be played in any order outside of anchor Dormammu so the possibilities are truly endless and I’m having a blast with this team personally.

Something I was thinking about today but havn’t really tried yet is ending a flames loop into dark hole so that you can get out M DoD and DHC from SoV into Stalking flare, and possibly get another flames rep from that.

Been trying flame loop into dark hole, but they’re popping out of the assist for me. I want, in theory, to Impact Palm+Dark Hole flames, flight impact palm S, then once they’re in a knockdown you can Daggers M and SoV into DHC, and you can get another flames rep from that, but once again, I’ve been having trouble at that.

I am able to get a flames loop in the air but I am having to end it with an air SoV since I can’t really follow up anything after a IP other than SoV from that height.

However I don’t see how you are getting a knockdown off the dark hole

I’m not at full hitstun deterioration. I manage, at times in the lab, to get them stuck in dark hole enough for a flight fH, and when I do that, I can go into j.S, which is a hard knockdown, considering how many times you launch someone in a flame loop. In theory, it should work on higher hitstun decay. Thing is, I can’t find a consistent thing to time it so that Dormy’s assist ends the moment Strange inputs impact palm. If you could find that out, you are officially the best person ever.

I would like to see a video if possible. If I get them in dark hole from a flames loop, it means I have to touch the ground, and the j.S doesn’t knockdown

Hello n Gdn to all. Its been a very long time since I’ve come onto shoryuken. Forums. Lmao. But am back n I recently started back playing marvel. My main team since vanilla is wolverine dante akuma(yes I kno d team is out dated) lol. But Justin Wong proved otherwise with d wolverine akuma shell. Lmao. But of recent I also picked up strange n having so much fun:-) I love my wolverine akuma shell to death. Lol. So I was trying strange in sec slot moved dante n it has some find stuff there. With strange sec I now have access to tac’s into flame loop kills. Wit that sain my opp. Knowing this they tend to smash out corners n S to brake tac’s n that give wolverine ridiculous sj l into drill claw rests… Lol. But Wat I wud really like to findout from u guys is, Wat do u guys think abt strange akuma as a team if wolverine dies early in terms of mix ups, zoning/keepout lockdown etc??? oh n strange dhc in wolverine is good. Really damaging. :-))

II wouldn’t relay too much on tac to fof as it affected by the hsd so longer combos will let you do only 1-2 reapeats of fof (probably not even maxed)

I guess akuma can quite helpful to Strange as it is one of the best gtfo assists in the game

Thats tru abt the HSD, but with wolverine being on point n his sad damage:) wen strange do come in d opp does be on like 40-45% life for the most by that time strange only needs two reps of fof with n extension using wolverine tornado claw assist into super then dhc back into wolverine fatal claw n that shit hurts. lmao. n like i said b4 i like d fact that bcuz of the tac being in the mix i get a free sj.L wit wolvie into drill claw reset for mashers… so far the team is running sweet n i really enjoying it… thnx again for the advice n comments on this n wud like many and any more info u can give out concerning strange akuma tatsu pressure play besides the obvious teleport left right assist mix ups… lmao

So I am currently practicing Strange/Dormmamu/Doom as a start but I don’t really like doom to be honest. I was wondering what are some good picks to run point for XXXX/Strange/Dormammu or XXXX/Dormmamu/Strange

ps. It is painful to read your posts Analyst

I love ???/Dorm/Strange. I’m getting back into it now, and I experiment with a lot of points.

Great points for that team are
-Wesker: great neutral/mixups/zoning with bolts, sj maximum wesker into stalking flare is a hilarious DHC out. You can also jaguar kick, call dark hole, chain into punch and teleport, pretty sneaky stuff for pressure. You get 2 good assists (Jaguar Kick assist is awesome for Dorm too, so is gunshot and bolts) for extending Dormammu combos, I’m a brand new Wesker, though, picked him up for exactly this shell, and liking him so far. Trying to find consistent setups into Stalking Flare-meteors-that whole deal, haven’t yet, got it a few times on funky hitboxes in matches, though, so it should be possible. Tied for Dante and maybe Hawkeye as my favorite point on this team.

-Nova: Touch of death city, end a combo with st.S sj.H POWER OF TH-DORMAMMU, you can teleport H, flight j.S for the knockdown, then flame carpet and centurion rush, fH, fH, Dark Hole, Chaotic Flame, turns a lot of confirms into big big damage. You can also do that extension off a TAC, meaning the team has a ton of meterbuild and TAC-bait resets are really strong here too. Nova also has probably the best extension assist for Dormammu barring lariat or quick work, though I have yet to find good unblockables with that assist, my guess is try killing with the first few hits of stalking flare, tagging in strange, cent rush and cr.H. Nova gets a great neutral assist in bolts, but I feel the team only has a few buttons at all against rushdown all up on your face (Nova mash jab, Dormy cr.M or yolo launcher). Great when it has space, keeps momentum forever, pretty nice team.

-Hawkeye: Zoning for days, Hawkeye and bolts is quite literally the most annoying thing ever, then combine that with Kiss of Fire DHC to Stalking Flare and you may just kill multiple characters with chip, you can also confirm off insane things (fullscreen st.H net arrow, st.H net arrow, st.H+bolts flip-M into poison shot, wavedash, slide launcher…). Triple arrow and Bolts for Dorm seems redundant, but triple arrow hits crouching people, so do it when they try to catch your bolts stuff unaware or need a faster ranged assist (Dorm runaway while calling bolts isn’t nearly as good as calling triple arrow). TAC for damage, and that’s about it. Extension for Dormy is okay, but not the best. The team is pretty awesome against air-mobile opponents.

-Skrull: Weird idea, but he does damage, builds meter when not used idiotically, and gets a really complicated grapple game using bolts and his ground and AA elastic punshes mixed in with command throws, he can confirm and extend off awkward things, including some throws, with bolts, and dark hole is okay for covering his air dH pokes. I don’t really know the Dormammu DHC timing for Stalking Flare stuff, but after TAC stone smite extends well, or you could use his spin assist for the get-off-me Dorm/Strange needs. Also, if Skrull’s snapped out to strange, which is normally smart, you get derpy superfun anchor. Even without DHC Stalking Flare stuff, which may exist but I don’t know it, Inferno to Chaotic Flame is still ridiculous.

-Dante: Jam’s good for Dorm for mixups and escape, Dante/Bolts is great at opening up, DHC to stalking flare from million dollars works in the corner, great assists all around, even Strange with Jam is awesome, and snapping out characters does nothing to undermine this team’s gameplan. Awesome all around, I just have a shit Dante.

-Nemesis: Don’t laugh. He may not be good, but he’s well-supported with this team, and eats through large characters no problem. Literally KaneBlueRiver himself wouldn’t be able to get past the zoning once he gets trapped at 3/4ths screen. Nemesis fH and bolts confirms off 3/4ths screen, and can also confirm off nearly fullscreen if it was an air tentacle (Deadly Reach or DR), alternating between bolts, DR’s on the air and ground, and TK/air rocket shots, you can outzone a lot of people, and Dormy can DHC in when you tag an assist (rockets combo infinitely on assists, but you need to DHC out at some point when their point gets wise). Launcher Slam or Rocket assist improves Dorm’s combos and stuff (like launcher slam because it covers air hitboxes on incoming), just Nemesis doesn’t fight well up close or against short people, Viewtiful Joe and Hawkeye I especially hate when playing this team. Converts into the most damage of all the points, though, you can combo into launcher (call bolts a bit after launcher) j.H QCF+S, land, cr.H QCF+S into DP super, and after the last punch if you DHC into Dormammu, Nemmy’s hyper resets the ground bounce, so you can pull them down with meteors into flame carpet and launcher slam assist, and extend after that, it’s so damaging (you can get 1.1 mill easily off a backthrow into corner). He’s the one I’ve played the longest, and one of the best points on specific matchups, but he’s too lowtier, shame to say, to compete with the others on the list. Also, if he’s snapped out…ouch.

-Taskmaster: Good pressure assist with Dark Hole, and Task/Bolts is quite good in a lot of ways. The damage on this team is great, Dormammu just doesn’t like Task’s assists as much as pretty much anyone I just listed, not when he already has bolts. Damage and DHC synergy is off the hook ,and if you’re willing to pop XF stalking flare gives Task some free unblockable hits into easy confirms. I’d love this team if it could convert Taskmaster’s ground throws into aqnything better than Hyper-Staling Flare or TK’ed Diagonal arrows into Chaotic Flame, as it is it’s still good, but not my favorite. Two minor bonuses that are really fun, though, Taskmaster (

-Haggar: I’m getting tired of typing, and don’t know Haggar as well as some others, but he’s awesome. Dormammu and Strange extend well for him, and Strange allows him to get in well. Dormammu and Strange get much-loved lariat, and suddenyl rushdown isn’t that bad. The damage and meterbuild, as always, is massive. For Dormy, it’s one of the better extension assists too.

-Deadpool: Not my favorite Deadpool team, but on point he helps out the team a lot. Deadpool/Bolts is pretty nice, and Deadpool can create space for Dormammu well. TACs and rawtag combos (quick works and teleport into rawtag) are actually super-useful for turning his more scaled confirms into bigger damage, and quick work is like Dormammu’s favorite extension assist. When he’s snapped out the team gets a bit awkward.

There are others that would definitely work on point here, Morrigan/Zero/Mags come to mind right away, but I don’t play them, so I can’t give anything more than that.

TL;DR

???/Strange/Dorm: hell if I know, but this list may have some overlap. Task would be better in that order for sure.

Mag/Dorm/Strange might just be the next team I go to since Treta is now over and I got some time after the next big brazilian tournament around here.
