Yo I’ve been thinking about picking up Strange. How good is Strange on Anchor? What are his pros and cons in this position?
pros - infinite, 1-frame super, can chip people out
cons - mobility, gotta take risks to go in, completely free to Vergil
I play anchor strange a lot, and he’s different than point or secondary strange in that, without assists, your teleport/zoning shenanigans are less, well, intelligent. You cannot keep zoning forever, and can’t do as many safe teleports, so there’s a lot of defense, picking your moment, jumping into divekicks to block and throwing them when both of you touch the ground, and a lot more jumpback impact palms.
Then you find your moment and pop X-factor. Eye occasionally to get your thoughts together, but for the most part, go nuts. Teleport H j.H chained to another teleport H j.H is better than you’d think when mixed in with teleports L and M into cr.H. Because of the falling speed of XF3 Strange, his teleport H j.H actually hits a lot of crouchers, so it can be used like a double overhead. On hit you have to land to convert, but it’s easy.
XF3’s damage is nuts and he does it fast, and actually any XF level, including 1, you should be able to kill most of the cast for very little meter, as you don’t need to set up your flameloops, impact palm and flames into another impact palm work from almost any spacing. At XF1, this means you can push to the corner, and just mistime your flameloops and still land them, until the opponent dies. In XF3, this means you can flameloop on the ground forever, and dash in between them to stay close. It’s pretty cool.
Sometimes he steamrolls through people, sometimes he doesn’t. He definitely doesn’t steamrool through Vergil, Tortonon is very correct on that. I usually pop XF2 for Dormammu for that matchup anyway, so if anchor Strange isn’t doing well in your matches, do that. The sped up bolts assist is brutal, especially when your second character has a natural crossup tool.
Another plus of him in back is you get bolts assist ALL THE TIME, which is nice. It’s top 3 for assists in my book.
Vergil woops him huh? Tis a shame. Any other bad matchups?
Hawkeye, if he’s smart he can neutral tech and land a free gimlet after you HIT with spell of vishanti. Also, your ranged counter Hyper will not work on gimlet. his j.H, st.M and slide beat your normals. Piercing bolt and speed shot in general vs your zoning tools is no contest. It’s brutal.
Snap that bastard in if you’re running Strange anchor, or at least save XF for Strange, when you are both red there’s some crazy randomness to it, but when you are both out of XF it sucks a lot for strange.
I also may try learning the same team, I know Dorm/Strange but next to nothing of Magneto. I know he can set up the stalking flare DHC such that I get two charges and meteors, but does hyper grav assist work to extend a Dormammu combo after a TAC or heavy hitstun (in terms of flame carpet and the assist into fH)? If so, that sounds perfect.
Also, were you on the Treta stream? I was archive-monsterring the first few sets of matches, but didn’t see you anywhere. Linj was really hype, though, so I was still quite entertained.
How come you haven’t seen me? I was commentating the whole tournament! LOL
I couldnt play properly, so I dropped the competition, and stick to commentating after having to play without sound. Linj is my friend, training partner and teammate at SOA (me, him, Acido and Marlon Abel). He’s won basically every tournament he entered so far in Marvel 3. That’s quite decent, right? LOL
On the subject of Mags/Strange, I came up with a Strange extension with Hyper Grav assist. If this has been found before, my bad.
flameloops…land, fH QCB+H fH+Hyper Grav DP+M, QCF+H fH Teleport+H fH, land fH QCB+H fH DP+H QCF+Hyper. Does a good deal of damage and seems extremely consistent, I haven’t messed it up yet after the Eye (I have, however, mistakenly inputted QCF+M instead of DP+M a few times, derpy fingers).
And with Mags(hyper grav)/Dorm/Strange, it seems any Strange throw into THC gives Strange flameloop conversions. I need to practice it more, though, to be sure.
Something I found recently. You can hard tag in Dr. Strange off Dormmamu in the corner with a S -> meteors into a flames loop.
You need to launch them from a certain height range in order for the meteors to keep them in the air long enough to get the combo.
Current corner combo I am using off of about 3minutes of testing needs you to start with 1 charge but I’m sure there’s is a way to get the 3rd charge pretty easily depending on which assists you are using.
(Currently using vergil rapid slash)
You can get an easy 3 charges if you use Dr. Stranges Eye of Agamotto assist instead of bolts by doing pretty much the same combo in the video but with eye assist.
Video of Concept:
What is the more optimal order for a Nova or Spider-Man team?
Strange/Doom or Doom/Strange? Who is the better anchor and what is better, Doom with Bolts or Strange with missiles?
I feel Doom/Strange or Strange/Doom, as a shell, is up to preference, both are very good with each others’ assists.
For Nova, though, go Strange anchor for sure, as Nova can at times tag into Doom on air throws for better damage, and if you had Doom anchor, you’d end up with Doom/Strange/Nova, which is more awkward than Doom/Nova/Strange.
Spiderman, not sure. He can rawtag to Doom as well, so Doom might still wanna be second, but if Spidey has a DHC setup into flameloops I don’t know about, then Strange would kick all sorts of ass on second, especially with that Pillar DHC from Maximum Spider, the perfect assist call punish.
Strange is a better anchor, but I think he’s better backed by missiles than Doom with bolts (even though this duo is really strong). It all comes down to which shell you feel better with
I’m only considering Strange for the moment. I haven’t tried him out yet, but currently I’m using Spider-Man/Dorm/Doom which is a rather popular and useful Spider-Man team, but it’s difficult to get in without a good horizontal assist.
I realize I’m going to get a lot of biased answers, but is Dorm/Doom a much better shell than Strange/Doom? Nova/Strange synergy is obviously good and Spider-Man/Strange is very workable, they have good DHC synergy and Bolts is a good pressure assist, I imagine it would be really good for Spider-Man because he doesn’t have a good high/low mixup game, and Bolts encourages crouching
Dormammu/Doom itself is better than Strange/Doom IMO. It’s way easier to comeback with Dorm/Doom if you lose the point battle. That being said, for Spidey himself, I think that Strange/Doom might be better, since you’ll have a horizontal and a vertical top-tier assist, so there’s that. If you want to buff your point char to the fullest, Strange/Doom might be a good idea. But if you think on the overall game, and the chance of things going badly for Spidey, then you should stick to Dorm/Doom.
Alright. I’ll definitely look into Strange. What Strange assists help Nova extend combos?
you need bolts regardless. Maybe the eye of agamotto if you have another strong assist for neutral, so you can use Strange’s to increase your mixup game, but really, in the end you should be always using bolts with Nova.
I’ve been trying out Ghost Rider, Hulk, Strange. It’s been working pretty well
Now you should test it on real people
Mag/Strange/Doom, more viable than ever!

works on 90% of the cast (hard to do on RR, no success on sentinel). This is a pretty nice buff to the team considering you can set up the loops from any distance now. Use the up back method (the last one against tron) on characters like Zero, Nemesis, Morrigan, etc.
I love you! <3
