"We must get back through the portal and CLOSE IT!" Doctor Strange Team Thread

Wolverine and Strange. Any synergy? Any team member that can make that work?

Also, in your opinion, what’s the best Dr. Strange team to deal with the more top tier teams (Wolvie/Doom/Vergil, Zero May Cry, Morridoom, etc.)?

Not really. Wolverine’s pretty ground based, and Bolts is mainly used for box dash characters. Wolverine’s not really a synergistic character in the first place. If you tack a beam assist on the end of it, it might work.

Strange is strong enough to handle top tiers as long as he has the tools (assists) he needs. Basic formula is a strong horizontal assist and anything else to buy time and preferably control some air space. I use ___/Strange/Dante for this because Dante can serve both purposes well. Jam Session also gives top tiers a lot of trouble in the first place.

Didn’t think so.

And I guess I shall continue this task of learning Dante…he’s a hard character for me execution wise but that HAM Session!

Strange May Cry? lol.

thx for swift response

I saw someone (always forget his name) who ran Strange/haggar/hawkeye which seems to me what of the best ways to deal with most of the rushdown, while strange himself excels at dealing with zoning.
Still lost to pr rog, but I guess tournament nerves hurt more with technical characters. The guy was rocking midscreen fof all day long

I’ve been having decent success running Hulk/Vergil/Doc Strange. Hulk is a great battery for building up meter, and then in late game it’s just book-reading 24/7. Vergil’s Rapid Slash assist also makes for decent cover for setting up Eyes of Agamatto.

I posted the Strange/Dorm/Doom stuff a while back… the THCs for this team are nasty and enable FoF loops

Think that guy’s name is Will or something. He’s super fun to watch.

Also, just raising discussion, I’m learning Deadpool/Strange right now. Heavy quick work, teleport back to the opposite corner, tag strange, apparently sets up FoF loops. I can only do them in the right corner, though. Can anyone confirm that midscreen works?

That might actually make Deadpool/Strange viable. Just for theory/discussion, what do people think the optimal teams using Deadpool/Strange are? I’m thinking Deadpool/Strange/Rapid Slash or Missiles, maybe a Dante anchor for funzies.

Can you write the full combo? I have no clue when it comes to Deadpool

Right now I’m just working on cr.M st.H Quick Work H Teleport L (if you’re on p1 side) tag, st.LMH fH S into FoF loops.

I’m assuming I can tag in at other points too, after something longer like cr.M st.H Quick Work H dash forward S j.H bolo, land, Quick Work H Teleport H (I’d be on the player 2 side at this point), tag, though that probably doesn’t give me the necessary hitstun for hitting the st.L.

Speaking of teams… some new stuff for DocNeto. This is part 3. After seeing the difference in damage (see the last combo, mid-screen from match-start staus) I’d say the best corner-carry (besides midscreen loop) is with TK-teleportH. It’s easier to do it if you consider your launcher a command normal done as back+S, and then perform a QCB motion with the up-back, instead of a TK-shoryu motion (I know I cant do those whatsoever). Hope you guys like it.

Hello again, all.

Last night on a whim I started running Nova Strange Hawkeye and enjoying it very much. I’m happy to discuss the team itself should anyone wish to, but I came on to ask a simple question:

Typically when I play Nova, I choose his M Cent Rush assist as I find it generally superior to his other assists. However Strange is one character where I’m actually wondering if he might get more mileage out of Grav Pulse, since Strange might enjoy a small shield for protection.

Which nova assist you think benefits Strange most (also noting Hawk has his teleport crossups covered)? Does Cent Rush provide either a ready-made mixup w/ the overhead, or perhaps a sweet combo extention? I haven’t tested it, but was thinking perhaps calling it at the end of a jump loop sequence may tack on some extra hits, but could be horribly wrong, dunno.

Or might the Doc more prefer the renewable shield for his zoning/keepaway efforts? Thanks in advance for any insights!

I actually put nova on Nova Strike assist for Strange, just to cover all his unsafe normals and push people away. Wallbounce is nice for combos and random hits too.

Is nova strike the one that’s neither the overhead nor pulse? That move itself is unsafe on block, no? I never use it so I’m not sure, but was under the impression that when nova on point does qcb (that move) its very unsafe. Am I wrong on that?

Centurion Rush assist is also unsafe on block. The reason I want Nova Strike is to push people away. Overhead assist doesn’t push back very far at all. Nova Strike also does more blockstun. Nova also appears behind the point character and becomes active after crossing, so if you call it and block, you can fish for hits with it. It’s kinda cool.

Really all his assists are good for Strange, it’s just whichever you prefer.

Back again after not being on here for a while. Recently, when I played at CEO, I was bodied horribly and don’t even want to shed light on the team I was playing.

I DO however, want to play strange again. But I want it to be viable. What do you all think about Mags/Dante/Strange? Honestly, I have never played either of them before and know that they are a little more execution heavy then I would prefer. I just wanted to know if this team has any potential and if I were to run it, would it be worth the effort I would be putting into it?

I tried that team for a whie OfTheEarth… but I’d tell you to change the order and let Dante last… if Magneto dies - and sometimes he will - you’ll need a shell that can deal heavy damage. I’d say Strange covered by jam session can controle quite some space on the screen, not to say that if you manage to get a hit without the assist, it’ll extend your loops…

dat deadpool/strange!

(not mine ofc)

I actually run quite similar team, (with wesker instead of mags) and talked with Angelic about it, and he did advice me to change to mags (or Nova which i try to develop)
look at my channel, got some techs with Dante/Strange there, and if you don’t care for meter, Dante/Strange can kill almost of any hit anywhere on the screen.
with xf this even get stupider.
I’m still considering how good is Dante/FoF compared to other beams, but it certainly effective when people are not used to it (care for zero though)

Last point, this is very execution heavy team, you should really concentrate first on getting just the very basic combos for the three of them, to get your gameplay started (no FoF, no hyper grabs loops, no shots loops).
don’t fall into the trap “I know a lot of combos, but drop 80% of them in match” this really is what separate the top players from us the common people.
(I could beat some of the best of nyc if i would just finish my plate, ofc while they were unfamiliar with my team tech

But what I was trying to do was have bolts cover dante on second then maybe acid rain out for flame loop? I was thinking about running Mags on point with disrupter then jam session for his back on on second and bolts to back them both up?

But something on another note I want to ask is: Is Magneto even worth the effort? What can he do that other characters cannot? I feel like it is so much work dashing all over the place, when there are characters who teleport. I feel like I have to put in so much work for combos, when there are other characters who have the same damage for less work. Is it just because he has a great neutral game? Please enlighten me.

Dude! Totally stealing that, though I probly need to learn midscreen lewps to make it effective, as I have no missiles.

By the way, Deadpool/Bolts is totally worth it in neutral, very annoying to close in on.

OfTheEarth: Magneto is TOTALLY worth it. You asked why is he worth the effort, I say that I cannot imagine why he wouldn’t be. He has tools to put almost every character in this game in a tough spot. He has one of the best neutral games, one of the best movements, high damage output, ridiculous mixup-heavy game… I’d say that aside from a buster and devil trigger and a sword, he’s got it all. Teleports are not that great. If you go teleport-happy with Dante and the other guy is not sleeping, you’re dead. Same for basically every other teleport in the game (with the exception of Phoenix). Teleporting is a good tool, but not as godlike as it may seem.
