Simple, but always builds a bar so that I can get a guaranteed kill if I have at least one in stock. I let Strange use both assists (using Burn Kick and Hidden Missiles) since he builds more meter that way.
Mazio are you just doing OTG Seismo into burn kick after each bolts? The 2nd bolt always proves a problem to me when I try to use it for extending combos. Maybe shorten it? Don’t forget you can do Seismo jump cancel Focus attack and dash forward. Marlin likes to do that when he’s midscreen with Doom beam assist.
That’s what I figured for Morrigan. Dormammu and Morrigan work really well together, but they have opposing needs. Dormammu covers his vertical and needs horizontal support, while Morrigan covers the horizontal and needs vertical support. If only Dormammu had a tracking Purification like he deserves…
Purification can extend for Dr. Strange, but Saga has neat uses for Dark Hole (s.MH + Dark Hole, Mystic Sword L, jump loops - if blocked, Eye of Agamotto). Dr. Strange is one of the few characters in the game who can really appreciate Dark Hole because he needs help with safe blockstrings, he can teleport with it for mix-ups, and he can protect the assist when it’s called poorly.
You don’t have an unblockable with C. Viper / Purification because your opponent can just not block, and you aren’t realistically going to convert off of Purification IMO (tell me I’m wrong and I’ll be impressed!). C. Viper can do the same setup you’re happy with via Dark Hole, though except it actually is an unblockable, but it only works against characters without aerial mobility (so maybe 1/3rd of the cast).
Yeah, Dark Hole is really good for Strange…I really didn’t want to change it till I got the unblockable stuff planned. Aaaand seeing as I’m no good with staircase stuff in actual matches I suppose I couldn’t convert after all. Well, back to Dark Hole it is!
Saga also discovered a while back a nigh invisible cross-up with Dark Hole if you teleport H over them, fly, gently edge your stick to the right and hit S. You’ll come down on the other side looking like an auto-correct.
Just optimized my Viper BnB into 7 Rings DHC. I can get 1.26m before the super, so I get about 1.4 meter gain starting from less than a bar. :eek:
And oh gosh a tracking purification. With no height restriction.
Gonna steal that from you. I’m doing 500k before Super because I want the most meter build from Strange FOF DHC.
There is also a universal aerial reset Dr Strange can do with Darkhole that covers front, neutral, & back tech.
It starts off a crumple, two yellow graces, & 2 TK H teleports making them land on darkhole in the air and eat a meaty lvl 2 FOF that causes soft knockdown for easy jump loops again.
Nobody I play offline has blocked it yet. loool
Only way out is if I miss the timing on it
Even if they block correctly I still get cr.m - Mystic sword L & darkhole on the way down lol
There is also an air throw tech set up so if they tech, they land right back in the darkhole lol
I have so much tech with Strange and darkhole.
Are you doing a combo before that, or are you giving up the combo from the crumple for this setup? It sounds like the latter, but that doesn’t seem like a good decision. Feel free to share the tech. The Dormammu thread could use it.
It would just be an inferior version of Vajra. Seems fair to me, at least. I’d be satisfied if they changed his assists to Dark Matter, Flame Carpet, and Power of the Destructor, though.
I actually had a similar setup with Firebrand and Dark Hole. Good stuff.
Oh geez, the things you could do with Flame Carpet as an assist, lol. It would make Samurai Edge assist obsolete.
Flame Carpet would likely have a longer startup, and its placement might limit who could actually OTG with it in time. I imagine they would remove the “hits low” property to make it fair, though, otherwise tridashers would get some ridiculous mix-ups on incoming characters.
I would even be satisfied if purification would come out quicker as an assist. It’s a gdlk move when you’re playing Dormammu, but as an assist it lacks luster because it always appears as the L version or whatever.
But you pretty much nailed it with those assist choices. A wall-bounce, a multi-hitting low (lol vanilla carpet redux). Power of the Destructor is fair. If you can press the Morrigan button and build meter with a hardly punishable assist then he should be able to charge a hand. Especially cause abuse of that will never result in incoming Dorm first-framers.
I hope to God they never take the low away from Flame Carpet. Deadpools assist is more broken in terms of unblockable setups.

Oh boy. Karst, Saga and the other Dormammu guys were right. It’s really cool to play them together.
The EoAassist-flame carpet-teleport-unblockacle has got to be the easiest way to kill characters without airdashes when they are coming into the match that has ever been created. I call it ‘The Vergil killer’. It is hilarious to see (of course, if you time it right for both Dorm and Strange to be safe one at a time) them going ham with helm-breakers or burning xfactor and being able to do literally nothing to avoid being opened up and killed in one combo :3
I only do that set up off a grounded eye of agamotto confirm so I can reset the damage scaling.
Thats the only time you really need to do resets really. Dr Strange does have alotta reset setups
though similar to Magneto, Like standing L into throw after FOF loops to get unscaled SOV.
Other hits I jus kill them in one combo.
Dr Strange will eventually evolve into a point character that kills without using more than 1 meter, sometimes none at all.
Either through elaborate reset set-ups or through his regular assist fueled bnbs.
Anyone been using alpha counters into 7 Rings/SoV? You can obviously XF after that and kill a character for free. Nemo used it in one of his sets in UMvC3 Topanga. Yet another benefit to playing Strange in the second (or third) spot.
