"We must get back through the portal and CLOSE IT!" Doctor Strange Team Thread

I would rather play Strange / Ammy (cold star) / Hawkeye (beam assist), you get easy fast mixups with Hawkeye that conclude in a TOD with the Strange + Amaterasu THC (basic Strange bnb can charge up to 1,5-2 bars). And Ammy benefits from the Hawkeye assist more than Hawkeye from Coldstar i think. Hawkeye + Vale of mist is unexplored, i guess you get a semi-infinite out of the ground bounce arrow while the vale is out.

I’m use to using ammy as an anchor, because she is a good one. My hawkeye is my weakest link in my team so idk how anchor hawkeye works for me.

Sparkaura, easy way to go into the flames, from Strange’s most classical impact loop (the first one Ryan Hunter discovered)

LMHS (delayed) j.M j.H j.Palm (land) j.M j.M j.H j.Palm (land) j.M j.M j.H j.Palm+ColdStar (land) cr.H s.Palm~Flame~Palm and keep the loop going.

About the assist time, I say you press them together; if you cant get your fingers to get used to this, you can press the assist button right after the j.Palm, but I strongly recommend that you do them simultaneously. The way ColdStar hits the opponent may vary, thats why you’ll do the FoF-loop as soon as you land the cr.H, cause you need to ‘hang’ him/her after the first shot of Ammy’s assist. There were times where I did only the cr.H and waited to loop, times where I needed only a s.Palm and it would combo, but also times when I did either one or the other and it dropped. So, to make sure, do both cr.H and s.Palm.

Just reminding, this can be adapted to all of his combos (TK-teleport, alzarath’s, crumple+jump, whatever) but this extension requires a corner. It will considerably scale the damage of the rest of the combo (cold-star doesnt deal a lot, and it does quite a few hits) but the idea is that by then you will have built 2 meters. One in stock, and you’ll do the hoary hosts of hoggoth and destroy anyone.

I have tested basically every single character using their usual assists alongside Stranges BnB’s to find extensions, so if you - or any other fellow sorcerer - wants some help on how to extend combos and/or lead into the FoF-loop, just tell me the char and we’ll work something out.

Oh My! Thanks man. I really appreciate all the tips, once finals are over i’ll practice more and ask more questions if ya don’t mind :stuck_out_tongue:

Dont mind at all, not even for a second. I had my days asking a lot of stuff at other chars boards (Ammy included, ironically) and everyone was cool and interested in helping me out. The least I could do is the same. Also, Strange players are already a very small group, and with the rise of Vergils and Zeros, it tends to get even lower. So whenever someone is even considering to pick Strange, the least I - and I sincerely think I mean a ‘we’ on this - could do is to help out as good as we can.

Funny when I first picked up this game my team was zero/ammy/vergil with strange here and there lol. However, Strange’s sarcasm and general awesomness drew me towards him. I’m glad your so willing to help, i feel like i pester people with, sometimes, obvious questions.

nah, it’s better to answer an obvious question than not answering questions at all.

So, I’m thinking of running a Viper(Seismo)/Strange(EoA)/Strider(Vajra) team.

With Viper, seismos control almost the whole screen from the ground to normal jump height while Vajra controls everything above.
EoA assist to unblockable focus attacks.
With Strange, the seismo OTG can help extend come combos/set up resets.
Vajra assist + Strange’s teleports = ambiguous crossups.
Strider anchor…enough said.

The only thing I don’t like about this team is the overall low health. What do you guys think about this team?

It is indeed a problem, Sensei. if you get any sort of happy birthdays, you pretty much lost the match.
The ideas for your team are all correct and they seem to have a lot of stuff going on.

Also, idk if you already know this, you probably do but didnt mention there…

Vajra assist + Strange = dual Spell of VIshantis per combo

Yea, I knew about the double Spell of Vishantis with Strider assist. I really want to use this team but I’d have to play flawless because any of these characters could potentially die in one combo.

Hey guys, I’m wondering: Does Strange NEED Doom with him on a team? It seems like every where I look every Strange team has Doom Missle or Beam. Is it absolutely necessary?

Right now I’m running Thor (Mighty Spark)/Strange (EoA)/Dormammu (Purification). I’m aware now that Strange needs a team built around him and I love the combination of Thormammu - do you guys think this team will suffice or should I start over with Strange and find someone else to join my godly buddies?

Please quote me if you’re responding! It makes it so much easier for me!

I’ll second that question. I’m currently running Strange(Eye)/Task(H.Arrows)/Akuma(Tatsu) and I’m worried that I can’t get the most out of Strange in either placement (although honestly I can shift Task with him no problem - It’s just that I noticed that most of the times, when you go for SoV, you’ll be near enough to DHC into up arrows) or himself without Doom assist.

I dont like the Dorm assists for Strange. If Thor dies your team is pretty much screwed. Maybe Thor / Dorm / Strange could be better.

Strange and Doom work nice, but personally i dont like playing both Drs in the same team, Tortonon might have a better opinion though.

AND Thor / Dorm / Doom is a much better anyway.

I really like the boost on damage output out of any possible confirm that Doom’s missiles can give Strange, but it’s not even close to necessary.

Lately I think that the most needed assist that Strange could have would be a GTFO one, preferably Akuma or Frank West.

Akuma works wonders since you are mid-loop out of a tatsu, besides giving you the time to bring the EoA into the game.

I really like Strange/Task too. After an airgrab or even in the end of an aircombo (if you delay the last j.S) you can teleport to get close to the enemy, do SoV and dhc into the up-arrows. If you have enough meter left (and being a Strange combo, you probably will) you can TK another arrow super. If you have even another meter, SoV it to close a 4 hypers combo with only the two of them :3

Nope. Strange/Doom are not best friends the way Zero/Dante are. Missiles gives you combo extensions and annoying zoning for neutral, but you’re gonna want something a little more aggressive for Strange to get in, especially if you play him second. Ammy is the best example for this IMO. I can really see these two characters becoming BFF somewhere down the line, because that THC is so good and Ammy is top 5 anchor easily.

x/Strange/Ammy I feel is a very strong team shell people should be looking into more. You’re essentially getting the best DHC punish in the game and the best THC in the game which essentially gives you a lot of time to open opponents up with whatever you feel like, all while coming with assists that are great for neutral (Bolts and Cold Star).

Magneto/Strange/Ammy, Viper/Strange/Ammy, Dorm/Strange/Ammy, Spencer/Strange/Ammy, Wesker/Strange/Ammy. Some VERY powerful teams with Strange in 2nd that you guys might want to consider. Firebrand on point might work, but you’d probably have trouble with meter management, since both Firebrand and Strange will be fighting for meter.

I’m actually running tests on Dorm/Strange/Ammy, and I already know that Wesker/Strange/Ammy is godlike.

Doesn’t Strange need assists? How is he as an anchor?

No matter what, you think Thor belongs on point?

What do you mean “great for neutral”? How can Stephen benefit from Cold Star?

Are you using Purification or Dark Hole?

Cold Star is commonly used for lockdown, but thanks to Strange’s fast teleports, he can get a second crossup teleport in between the gap of the Cold Star shots. Basically neutral is either composed of zoning or rushing down, when you aren’t comboing or something. Cold Star can help with both, not to mention that THC will make it very easy for Strange to open people up, especially if they’re midscreen where you can cross them up.

I’m using dark hole for mixup purposes. Ryan Hunter uses purification, and it is also really useful

Do you guys think Firebrand (Heavy Missile)/Strange (Bolts)/Iron Man (Repulsor Blast) could make a decent team? I was thinking that Luminous body can DHC into seven rings and Iron Man can help set up unblockables. However I’m not sure how well the good doctor and Iron Man work well together.
