Does anyone else feel that the Bison match-up is impossible?
If he has 1 bar and U2 stocked you’re pretty much screwed.
He’s hard to anti-air, his cr.lk seems to beat all your buttons and once he has you cornered you get destroyed by scissor kick pressure.
St.mp I use the most in the bison match up. His jump is real floaty and his head stomps and reverse get swatted by it as well. It’s tough on the ground because his St.mk and St. Hk shit on any normals we have. You are going to have to make better reads and capitalize on every opening. Bison dictates the flow of the match tbh. Sometimes I take the risk in the neutral of timing a scissor kick with a lk lmt to catch it.
I’ve been playing Poison alongside my mains for quite some time now…I feel like she has the potential to be top 5. Her spacing control is really rather good, and whilst her normals might not feel as potent as Rose, she still can get a lot of work out of them. Anti airing with fireballs into consistent followup is a pretty strong tool, and her pressure game is decent. She is generally quite safe, and whilst her damage output could leave something to be desired, it’s good enough- not every character needs to hit like Evil Ryu.
Been a lurker since 09, just wanted to thank everyone’s discussions on this thread from the beginning for really opening my mind to some neat ideas and insight towards how Poison should be played. When I eventually get back to my computer I’ll post what I’ve got saved on a document- see if I remotely help the performance of the people who have helped me all this time~
I find it funny in that forum that Tali gave everything that screws her up, not even gameplay but just trash mechanic wise and they all still said shes the best.
Geez I haven’t come posted in SRK in ages. Regarding Poison being top 5 thing, if the list had Gief as a top 5 aswell then it had no credibility at all in my books. I don’t think that we should care or bother at all to be honest.
I have been out of the loop for a while, but today i was messing around with cr.Mk xx EX Fireball FADC U1. It does 500 Damage with full revenge gauge. I think it maybe good for whiff punishment or counter-poking and stuff like that, pretty much similar to Ryu. What do you guys think about that ?
Anyways, I’m finally going to put time into Poison, my sf4 hiatus is over. After watching Air’s Poison, it really inspired me since I think her and Yang are perfect fits for me, for multiple reasons.
I just do not know where to start with her.
I mean I understand bnbs and whatnot, but is there a basic summary of what I need to master? Frame traps setups general tidbits, do’s and do not’s etc.
Any and all help would be great!
Also cr.mk xx ex fireball fadc u1 seems really pricy, but if someone could use it in a situation reliably hey, it works. Personally I would likely look for something more meter effective, otherwise if it’ll kill then giver~
Basically. Poison relies heavily on your fundamentals, much like Ryu, Fei and Chun-Li, she feels like the aforementioned 3 were placed into a blender.
Poison’s Fireballs are the best in the game. Master them, learn the frame data and learn how to apply them in all situations.
Hitconfirm everything. Poison gets a hard knockdown from pretty much every hit, each hard knockdown leads to a setup and they are what Poison thrives on, free pressure through her absurdly safe fireball pressure.
Learn BNB’s. I’ll write a few I personally use.
cr.LP x2, s.MK xx MP Rekka - Basic hitconfirm and my most used combo
cr.MK xx MP Rekka - Whiff Punish (Use EX if cr.MK hits at max range)
s.HK xx HP Rekka - Basic punish
cs.HP xx EX LMT - Punish with 1 bar. Lots of damage for what it is.
LMT, cr.LP, s.HP xx HP Rekka
Tips:
Cancel your cr.HP AA’s with HP Fireball. They should land in it meaty and it gives you room to breath and some free pressure.
Remember you can juggle from fireball air hits, try to cancel the normal you juggle with into another fireball (cr.HP or s.MK or something)
This a video i made because I don’t see anyone doing this and it’s a really powerful technique that opens up a lot of potential to Poisons midscreen game. Also it carries your opponent half way across the screen.
Alright so i was playing in training mode before with Poison, and I noticed that she can do cl.mp, cr.lp, cr.mk x EX WoL against a crouching Dudley. Don’t know what causes this exactly since she normally can’t link cr.mk from a cr.lp. Has anyone else bumped into this?
Im not convinced about airs posion. I saw alot of matchup unfamiliarity and a shitload of dropped combos yet he still won [reinforces my point about matchup unfamiliarity]
I still think it is a great set to watch (I’m going to check it out and study it dont get me wrong) but he got away with murder. Set one vs set two vs smug is what I mean in regards to MU unfamiliarity.
At the same time he did alot of really cool shit. im sure those LMT > cr lp counterhits were spaced to hit meaty and I believe I saw multiple cross up LMT setups. so he knows his shit.
TLDR: His poison is awesome I just dont think it is godlike, very fucking good though.
I just want to know who is the momochi/sasaki of poison as they are to cody.
the cr.lp is hitting on the second active frame giving you +6 of advantage vs +5 normally
Air is the best poison that i have seen so far. From watching him at CanadaCup he showed that he understands how to zone effectively with her (which easily converts from being a ryu main), he understands the character to the depths of character specifics (which he showed with a backthrow> j.hk cross up set up on blanka which only works on blanka, cody and elena and cross up LMT shenanigans), His awareness and execution is on point as when he went up against a guile, instead of taking the easy route of playing the fireball war and letting guile come to him and AA’ing him, he looked to set up a HK LMT to get over guiles fireball after backing him towards the corner, then comboing the lmt into cr.lp > st.mk xx rekkas for more damage and stun then the LMT+follow up slam, while also getting a better position from the rekkas knockdown then the lmt knockdown. His anti airs were on point, he knew when to ex lmt AA and when to cr.hp/st.hk/st.mp. He understood how to maximize on damage, he (dropped the combo but) looked to do a lvl 3 focus > hp fireball > cl.mp > cr.hp xx rekkas on a stunned opponent. He knew safe jumps and when to overhead.
From what i saw he looked like he has put time into the character. Poison doesn’t have to many high level tournament player videos in general and the top japanese poison players based off the arcade ranking system don’t have any video tapes.
