We like wearing heels! Poison General Discussion/Q&A Thread

I will say she is easy to learn ( Atleast to pickup and play ) and intermediate to master. I think it is definitely easier to master her than say Zangief or Dudley or Guy etc, etc.

I agree with you. Air was able to transition from Ryu to Poison without any problems.

He’s currently the best Poison on the tournament scene. He may even win EVO next year with her.

Incredibly easy to pick up but I can see her being pretty damn hard to master.

Because of her 1F links?

Her best stuff is also pretty specific. 3 of this to crossup lmt on this guy, 2 on this guy, 2 on this guy but only if he stands, this guy can eat a meterless 460 in the corner but only standing. That crap.

Well to be completely honest, I don’t see this happening at all. While Air is very good, I don’t think he is on that level. I have to say though that i would have said the same about Louffy this year, so anything is possible.

I am thinking that if Xian took her seriously, he would be a more realistic candidate for sure.

Nah, the 1F links don’t have anything to do with it, really. Like someone said before, Poison has a LOT of character specific setups and combos that are quite situational, coupled with her reliance on fundamentals, she has the “Ryu Factor” of taking a minute to learn and a lifetime to master.

Anyone have any OSes that i’m missing? I think I have all the main ones figured out im just double checking

Spoiler

Option Selects
Jump in OSes
Rekkas
Ultra 1
Delay OS sweep [Leads into a auto 4 frame safe jump]

Chain OSes
cr lk/cr lp, cr lk/cr lp OS Sweep [Leads into a auto 4 frame safe jump]
Cr lk/Cr lp, cr lk/cr lp OS cr HP xx LP Whip of Love [vs ryu catches him grounded, hard to input]
Chain OS U1 from a light into a crouching normal is possible but I cant do it myself. Have at it my friends
Input is 236,236, 2/3 + PPP [Too slow and ultra comes out on block, if only st lp hit crouchers]
Cr lk/cr lp/st lk, QCB + st lk + st mk [On wiff EX LMT comes out, on block cl lk comes out. Does not punish back dashes directly. Frame traps them post backdash leaves you +1 on block and in their face.]

Recovery OSes
Cl MK OS U1 [Cody’s is easy with cl lk OS U2 but poison’s U1 and cl mk are slower: very tight setup]
if meaty: 20-21 frames if you hit on opponenst first wake up frame + however far the fireball has to travel
Anti DWU OSes [Assuming a 4 frame safe jump]
OS Cl lk – Safe vs 6 frame reversals [Chain OS vs backdashes]
OS LK/MK/EX LMT – Catches ryus backdash and focus backdash and stand tech, wiffs over crouchers

Trade OSes
KBAG aka DP OS U1 [Trades may be sweeter than you think]

Been dabbling with Poison in Endless. Some questions if you guys don’t mind answering. Sorry for being so long and curious.

  1. Throwing fireballs are supposed to be unpredictable. For Ryu, he can light dp for a little meter, do qcf lk to imitate a fireball motion as a bait. Does Poison have any kinds of tricks like that?
  2. Poison’s H fireball can kind of be used as an anti-air. But what other applications can it be used for? Frame traps?
  3. If I buffer cr. mk, what strength fireball should I be buffering with? Does it matter?
  4. Is the meter for EX WoL worth it for the reset? I haven’t really gotten too much mileage off it. Maybe I’m going for the wrong resets?

Huge thanks to all of you guys.

  1. you can just tap down and far st lk to simulate the QCF + Buffer. It is easier on ryu as his dp is a much better anti air at more ranges but thats how you can substitute it. Up close you could focus dash forward as the animation for fireball and focus are similar but her backdash isn’t so hot.
  2. you can cancel normals into hp AE for corner pressure. In the corner HP AE works really well canceled of normals however there is a massive gap before it is active so you have to be careful about it. In the corner you can mix up cr mk xx EX AE with cr mk xx HP AE to make them flinch. The most consistent use is meaties on wakeup. you can HP AE, Dash and combo while being safe vs ryu’s dp and gaining a high low mixup on block for instance.
  3. if your buffering to clip a poke buffer rekkas, If you expect to hit them rekkas can be spaced to be safe against alot of the cast so learn the range. EX fireball is safe as it is a true string, hp fireball is the least safe but is the best if it connects as you can dash into more pressure, lk fireball is the better one for ryu like pressure but it is not a true string except near point blank from cr mk.
  4. Yes, learn the setups and it can do wonders.

Keep in mind I am only days into poison so I could be wrong about all of it. Treat is all like theoryfighter. Experiment with what I said or wait for a more informed post lol.

Don’t know about 1, but me personally,

  1. Poison’s H fireball can kind of be used as an anti-air. But what other applications can it be used for? Frame traps?
I primarily use it for when I knock my opponent down. Put it right over them and they have to guess. I’ve PO’ed quite a few people with it because you can either bait out a DP and punish them, use fwd + mp and get them if they crouch block it, throw them if they crouch block, or I use EX LMT early if they try to attack because they are clueless in what to do. If the opponent is in mid screen I mix up between qcf + mp or hp for a fireball so I can be a bit careful and rush in with LMT. If by the corner qcf + hp is just fine.

  2. If I buffer cr. mk, what strength fireball should I be buffering with? Does it matter?
Well, personally I just use qcf + mp and it works out fine for me.

  3. Is the meter for EX WoL worth it for the reset? I haven’t really gotten too much mileage off it. Maybe I’m going for the wrong resets?
To me it is. If you know youir opponent is unfamiliar in any way with Poison then using it is worth it. I do EX WoL, jump HK, and right as I hit the ground EX LMT. It works a huge amount of the time. Or I just use Love Storm depending on the character if their health is low enough to give me a better edge.

Sometimes I like to watch the Replay Channel and see what’s going on. Any Poison players worth following on PSN?

@Genistar‌ I’ve faced and easily beaten the #1-3 poisons (I’m #4 atm) and they aren’t that good. You won’t learn tech watching them. The current #1 got mad at me for zoning him with fireballs, he sent me a message saying “let’s just fight” lol

He’s number 1. I say we listen to that guy.

Genistar is the #1 Poison on PSN?

Just a bit of handy info

Rekka to meaty HP FB to cr.hp xx ex FB is all a true blockstring, handy if you just want to kill them off guaranteed after a throw/rekka in corner.

what? no some dude named noveldiagram. 2nd is satsui-yes-hadou and third is blindf0ldmeeh. I haven’t seen none of them do any OS’s, safe jumps, CH set ups, and their zoning is mediocre.

EDIT: ooooh sorry i quoted genistar when i meant to quote you. all these poison avatars got me confused lol.

So what do we think Poison’s animal costume is going to be?

Snake?

I don’t even go on ranked on psn. I’ve beat the other poison’s and have issues against Tali’s (Mostly because for some reason I get impatient.). Its odd when I don’t control the flow of the match. lol. Im going to post the videos tomorrow while I study and one includes tali getting a touch of death combo of elena. I do think the videos will help a lot of other poisons since its mostly set ups safe jumps, and other stuff. (I should go after my top rose psn title again while im at it lol.) I’m going to try to load more videos up of other match ups too im just very pre-occupied with smash 4 and being part of a competitive team.

Probably a cat because of her whip.
