yeah especially with EVO being just around the corner.
Well apart from the almighty infiltration is there anybody else? i mean in the offline tournament scene.
lmao infiltration. he has the potential to be good with her but hes doing dumb things like relying on kbg as a anti air.
watch melo and uki. i use to give shit about melo jumping too much but hes really leveled up his game now. uki. is pretty good but the one video archive of him got deleted on the yubiken stream. atleast you can watch melo play really good against akimo’s elena on yubikens archive.
I think my biggest problems with her so far are her terrible forward dash (makes sneaking in throws during AE pressure really difficult) and her AA game being really unreliable. Its been said before but I seriously think any character who can change their jump arc probably beats her. Guy Seth Rufus Yang Yun Ibuki all huge pains since you want to cr.h them but as soon as you do they land early and whiff punish that shit.
Use her standing far medium punch it seems to beat dive kicks and a good angle and it seems very good to go over lows.
St.mk isn’t bad for dive kicks either. Just wish she had a bit more active frames and a bit less recovery
Back from CEO. Shoutouts to Shin Oni . I see you (but I can’t tag you. Thanks SRBama.)
Also shoutouts to @gllty . I saw you around but I didn’t recognize you until you came up in conversation later (I drove down with Full Schedule). I looked like this. We passed each other like three times and I didn’t say anything because I didn’t know it was you… ._.
Anyhow. Same old same old spiel song and dance that y’all already know, but these are my final thoughts on the matter:
Poison is a projectile character. Those are her ranged pokes. (st. HP is 13 frames. LP AE is 15…) The enemy will jump because of this.
She doesn’t recover fast enough to block if they are too close (about midscreen). So, the idea is to stop chucking plasma at midscreen and just wait for their jump, or play footsies.
She’ll have a hard time consistently stopping jump-ins, though (as said- forget about divekick chars), and her relatively slow poke speeds and recovery times means it’s difficult to keep out an opponent at this range. Everything is high risk, low reward. It requires patience and good reads.
On offense Poison’s 50/50s are pretty good, and relatively safe FB pressure can really throw opponents for a loop. It’s a vortex, but it’s not a super strong one. The issue is that she does not set up her offense easily because of various factors (e.g. poor normals) and I don’t think her having projectiles is a good enough tradeoff for this.
In my eyes, it’s the Shoryuken (or Flesh Kick yo Xian) that actually makes a projectile character- she doesn’t have that. Chun has, at the least, great footsies, and a superior walk speed- Poison has neither of these.
So I’d say that, to focus on the positive, her strength lies in relatively safe okizeme pressure that is unaffected by DWU, and corner pressure with AE that most if not all projectile characters do not have due to low or even + frames on block from in close.
Using EX WoL in combos is key. I never used to use it that much, but to survive you must start forcing mixups because you need the damage. You don’t have good footsies or great ways to get in for your hard knockdown, so every time you land a cr. MP/cr. MK/st. MK/etc. you need to EX and then threaten 50/50, and if it hits you get more pressure. (This is actually a great way to get a stun if everything starts hitting.)
Moreso than other projectile characters, you have to be very, very smart about placing AE. Poison cannot mount an “Iron Wall” defense, and using KBG to intercept jump-ins after a thrown AE can be risky.
Because of this, defensive zoning with Poison (at least to lower-skilled individuals like myself) won’t be effective. Her projectiles seem more suited to pressure and offensive (read- risky) zoning. (That she naturally moves forward while throwing AE may be proof of this?)
Infiltration’s WoL, backdash, HP AE, LP AE actually works pretty well. I mean, it’s probably obvious, but the space it creates is nice for when you have a big life lead and want to try running away.
Because you can’t easily actively defend, you have to sit, wait, be patient… then find an opening and start gambling with the HP AE vortex. That is what seems to be the best general plan.
So that’s my current level of understanding. I hope it’s useful to someone here. I’ll try and post what matchup notes I have in the other topic.
Stay cool guys.
My bad I wasn’t much of help in the matches you did play @"Drake Aldan" I tried but you pretty much were doing everything else fine. But you said it yourself with your AA game kinda lacking. I also didn’t get a chance to chat it up much with @gllty but i’m sure 2 out of 3 of us will be at Evo. (maybe not.) I also didn’t know you were with the Pensacola boys as I hear from others down here in South Florida that you guys are holding out on a good amount of good players in marvel up there lol.
But anyways, most of that is pretty much true. She’s basically full screen Fireball pressure until she pushes you into the corner where she shines to mix it up constantly and hope they guess wrong. Basically a standing vortex that’s not fullproof but good if people don’t know. The problem is people will start to learn you can focus most of her mixups or that you can reversal after WoL. (which is where the “vortex” mixup comes.) But she has crap options for stopping people from coming in the air outside of normals. (normals are great, but if the character has the DP, why wouldn’t you use the DP for more damage? O_o) Also her “GTFOMe” normal is going to be st.LK/cl.LK. Don’t feel bad at all for abusing that normal. It’s 3 frames and it stuffs a lot of dumb pressure she’s under. It at least gets you some space to do something else.
Is there a way to get Poison Kiss to hit more? I used to be able to pull it off a bunch of times when people sit and block, or as part of an empty jump. But then my husband got tired of being kicked in the privates and found out that all he has to do is jump away when the cinematic starts, because it is really slow in “effective frames” unlike other command grab ultra attacks.
this was posted on reddit yesterday, it explains why the ultra whiffs sometimes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvYgEu5blOI
Hey guys new poison player tryin to learn her where do I start what bnbs should I be practising?? Punishes?? Etc help appreciated
@leetfighter For BnB check out the combo thread Poison combo thread
Typically combos that start with cr.LP or 2 cr.Lp are the bnb so look out for those. Regarding punishes and general matchup strategy check out the match-up thread

What do you guys think about our counter pokes options ? It seems that cr.MP maybe be the most success i had.
I use cr.mp and cr.mk and max ranges buffered into rekka. I just wish they weren’t so slow. They are easy to get whiff punished by an advanced player.
As a former Cody main, I wish i can get his cr.LP or his cr.MP.
Hey guys, check my thread out, I’ve updated the third post with new tech on how you can get Ex AE to be +10 on hit!
Here’s a link

This video blew me away. The range on ultra 2 when in the corner compared to mid-screen is ridiculous and makes me think that her moving back mid-screen and having the ultra whiff must be some kind of bug.
Anyways I have a question. When I am doing the standard HP AE set-up off a hard knockdown what am I supposed to do if they back dash or focus back dash? I know if they jump then st.RK works but when I try LMT it never catches. Is there something else I’m supposed to be doing.
Do it preemptively, if you read the back dash.

i dont quite recall(I meet lots of people!) but feel free to say hey next time. I’m pretty chill.

I’ll be at evo, and same just say hi
I keep having random SRK and random super coming out… I don’t have this problem with other shoto characters though. Am I the only one this is happening to?
random srk happens to me all the time mainly when i go for a reset into a low
