We like wearing heels! Poison General Discussion/Q&A Thread

I personally think EX LMT should be second to EX AE. You definitely have more uses for it in defensive and offensive situations rather than EX WOL.

Since EX LMT is still semi-safe people can still get themselves fucked over trying to punish it.

Me?

EX AE
EX LMT
EX WOL
EX KBG

ehhh i’m gonna say in this one:

EX AE
EX WoL
EX KBG
EX LMT

EX fireball obviously being 1 for it’s great utility and just how fast it comes out. Poison’s animation is misleading first off so the fireball comes out faster than the animation shows. Throwing a lot of folks off. It’s hella fast and already comes out further than most fireballs to begin with. Even better that all her fireballs have juggle state on airborne hits so if close enough you get followups with whatever you want or can get. No reason not to dump meter here.

EX WoL is where most of your damage is going when you’re not zoning. This should probably be something everyone should be buffering into off any cr.MK/st.MK/cr.MK/any normal it leads into. It’s the furthest reaching of the rekkas, jump cancelable on hit, easily leads into U1, you get somewhat of a mixup off it, it’s damage.

EX KBG is probably only higher on my list than LMT because it’s your only viable get off me move. It’s still not that great but considering how easily Poison builds meter, not worth trying. Still sucks that it doesn’t beat crossups but at least this is a reliable DP when you know your spacing.

EX LMT to me is eh in this game. Maybe i’m just pampered by SFxT’s LMT tracking, going through fireballs easily and not automatically getting the knockdown followup. It’s still alright but I rarely see myself using this move unless I’m in midscreen neutral and wanting to hop over a fireball to start my pressure thanks to knockdown. Otherwise I rarely use it and stick to regular LMT.

I would really consider using ex lmt in block strings more, try it out, it’s +2 on block, think of it like sakuras ex tatsu

Just a thought…if all the issues for Poison gets fixed I believe should might just go down a tier… I’m thinking that maybe a wall jump would be cool for her. What do you all think?

I don’t think a wall jump would fit Poison. Let alone help her. Even with the fixes she’ll be fine. (most of the problems are with her hitboxes not being consistent or just the SF4 hitboxes being attached to the model.)

Meterwise im ranking it

EX LMT
EX KBG
EX WOL
EX AE
Super (used it one time)
KBG FADC U1 (have yet to do it on a person)
Red focus (not on a person)

The first 4 really close in importance the last 3 are like eh, not really)

ExLMT while no where near SFxTk levels is a surprisingly decent for way more usage occasions then it looks like on paper. I find myself using it for fireballs less then everything else, because tossing a fireball that close to poison generally seems like a bad idea that people have caught onto.
If you haven’t yet, keep in mind it works on most air active moves, and most jump-ins, ground them and completes the move,I’m likely explaining it weird but try it out.

EXKBG while still not the best dp ever does occasionally get me out of trouble, annoyingly this move some how comes out when I try to do cr.mk > ex Ae. sometimes it works but eh.

EX WOL is nice to toss in, I find the scaling it does to U1 disgusting, especially with U1’s utility off of poorly spaced jumpins and just general why would you do that there? situations, like the aforementioned way too close fireball.

EX AE I find is most useful when I’ve already got the opponent pinned down. In fireball wars its a nice thing to toss in to let them know I get meter faster then they do, so cut it out. It’s speed while lovely doesn’t mean much unless you’ve already narrowed their options down.

The super After all of these moves feels like more of an afterthought or going for it after a match where none of these work particularly well (which is about none) or you just forget about meter

KBG FADC U1 just haven’t used it because it’d cost 3 meters seeing as how all non ex KBG’s are diceroll dps. its hilarious when every hit misses or when you see it touch the opponent and nothing.

Red Focus. haven’t used it much in usf4 let alone as poison.

Mk dp isn’t a dice roll, it has 2 active invincibility frames, so it is a good reversal. And a good option for the dp fadc u1 for 500+

Was watching Infiltration’s Poison matches.

After WoL, backdash, HP AE, he does a followup LP AE. Normally if I wanted to create space I would backdash and then throw the LP AE, instead of throwing it outright.
But this way, it pushes them back quite a bit, and Poison maintains her screen position.

I have to wonder how safe this is. Could you be jumped on and not recover in time here?

I’d use MP AE instead of HP in that situation. it’s a meaty on just about everyone and if they can get around it, she can block whatever they throw out.

only exception is Ibuki. She can use whatever to get out and punish you for it. (ex neckbreaker, ex DP, ex jump kick. U2)

Can Poison combo into Red Focus? Is Red Focus even useful to her?

You can cancel some hits of WOL into it IIRC. I’m not sure if you can do second. definitely not third. The only use I can see is if you’re sitting on the meter, and already have the hit confirm and HAVE to ultra. Or against a non focus breaking multihit move, i’ve still yet to find myself in that position. There are probably plenty more though.

I guess I meant a diceroll as an srk, you’re right that should work but I guess I still haven’t worked it into my gameplan. I’ll try it the next time i find myself at that range.

Yes i believe you can cancel both the first and second hits of Wol but unless it is a round or a match winning situation it is usually not worth it as the damage scale really really hard and meter is really valuable to her. Poison definitely won’t get as much from Ex Red focus than Yun for example. Maybe raw red focus would be useful vs Bison or something to deal with his scissors kick pressure but still the risk/reward is still not enough to justify doing it except on a really good read or something.

I haven’t played the original final fight but does anyone know if Poison’s move-set were actually moves she used in that game ?

I know it have nothing to do in here but God I hate Dudley.

Speaking of which.

18 match set, Smug v. Wolfkrone. (They tie up 9-9.) Maybe it can give you some insight.

Wonder which video topic it should go in (it is online after all, can you truly call that “high level”?)…

Anyway, my initial thoughts-

  • Wolfkrone uses EX WoL a lot. He also manages to maintain an unusually high hit rate for this. Is it because he’s cancelling into it as a whiff punish, or is it because Smug is not checking his legs?
I normally shy away from using EX WoL since I don’t want to waste the meter if I get blocked, but it seems the reset mixup afterwards is more important than playing it safe.

  • Smug seems content to play footsies. I don’t think he is jumping as much as he should be. (The thing is, from my personal experience offline, apparently people don’t believe that Poison has situational anti-airs until they figure it out themselves, or until you tell them outright- and when you’re on point, st. HK and cr. HP look pretty good.)

  • Smug seemed to be unfamiliar with the matchup- or at the least, he was getting hit by a lot of stuff. Despite this, he still managed to tie things up. I have to wonder what the implications are here.

A few of her moves yeah. St.mk is one, lmt is another sort of. I usually punch her out before she can do much. It’s great when theres like 4 Poisons at once. I’m just like BEST GAME EVER!

Who do you guys think some of the top poison players are right now? people to look out for i mean.

I was wondering because Poison was a playable for the first time in SFxT yet her synergy with the rest of the cast wasn’t that good compared to everyone else. You would think that a brand new character for the game would have a lot of moves that would be helpful in a tag team but aside from abc launcher there wasn’t much really.

I actually was referring to Dudley after having a set of Guile vs Dudley but I do think that Poison have better time in this vs Dudley just because of the fact that cr.MK is special cancelable and Guile’s isn’t. Poison on the other hand can get some damage and reset opportunity from that.

Infiltration

I love Poison’s taunt 4. Where she says “Sit. Stay.” You can cancel it super quick after she says sit. It still gets the point across and can be done after most of Poison’s hard knockdown and still have time to set up a low or high or grab on their wakeup.

Is he actually Picking her up to play her seriously? i would expect all the top players to mess around with the new chars and play them/learn how to beat them.

I really would expect him to stay with his usual characters with akuma being his main, he has been successful up to now with them.
