Really? I had been using slide in Korea vs. Yun’s divekicks with a pretty decent degree of success.
well it’s situational (far s.mp that is) but it has its uses against low angled dive kicks and empty dive kicks.
c.mk trades alot for me =/ or gets beaten “from above”. s.lp will remain to be the best tool tho.
man, watching momochi cody convincingly took out ricky ortiz rufus. liberally using jab pretty much did it, especially when ricky didnt have the meter for ex messiah. idk why i post this here; im just happy cody has some rep in grand finals in a major tourney.
IDK, I was doing it against empty dive kicks on reaction and beating them cleanly more often than not. I agree on s.lp though.
In my experience, cr. mk only works vs twin dive kicks. Rufus, Seth, and Akuma dive kicks are a no no
well I am very happy Momochi won now I guess everyone is going to use Cody lol, but its all gravey more people for the forums woot.

Meh, it didn’t really happen like everyone anticipated with Gamerbee and Adon last year, so I don’t expect much in the way of an influx here either.

I already noticed more Cody’s on XBL than usual. I’m working a bit on Akuma at the moment; its fun to be on the other side when the vortex gets going, but damn Cody does so much damage.

Can any Cody vets give me an Overview on the Akuma match-up? This match is flat out stupid.

I need some help on the Makoto matchup. I can’t keep her out at all. Crack rocks are too slow on startup to deter her from dashing forward, and once she gets in, I’m basically done. If I try to get out, I eat a huge chunk of damage and most likely just put myself in a corner. If I try and block and be patient, I eat a karakusa > u1. Is the secret to try and use the knife? Seems like the only way to win is to guess a Hayate and punish with a neutral jump combo [which the Makoto can OS in certain situations (dash forward HCB punch. if you nuetral jump, makoto goes on the other side of you and the motion auto corrects. if you backdash or block you eat a karakusa)]
Makoto is a tough one imo. It might help to see some video of your Cody in action to see what you do / do not do / need to do more of.

your problems are not cody specific problems. if you are having trouble with someone dashing in on you. press buttons, knock them out of their dash. almost all hayate’s can be punished on block so there is no need to guess that part. when up close, yeah sometimes you have to guess. but thats the same with almost every character with a command normal. not cody specific and not makoto specific either. there is not 1 option that deals with everything makoto can do up close, or else how would that be fair to the makoto player.
Whoops, I meant karakusa when I said hayate. That’d be kinda silly if I was having problems with hayate ;). Also, I can keep other characters out pretty effectively. I think it’s just makoto’s ability to stay on you with nonstop pressure. I guess she’s just one of those characters you can’t fuck up against.
Or perhaps I just have difficulties vs command grab characters. Gah, who knows. I give up.
