with all due respect you make it sound so easy, the t.hawk may have had more experience with t.hawk and or gief.they may have misread their opponent or have been read themself and then got knocked down.flowchart only works as a basis for you strategy ,as you get deeper into the game you realize that its not always the character that bests you in that particular time, its the person behind it.sorry if that came off a lil preachy but sometimes they have your number lol
Yes, this is true. Honestly- Gief and THawk have it fine against Cody. Its a 5-5, plain and simple. HKRK is good, but good giefs/thawks will not constantly jump in on you, infact the better ones will only jump in once they have scored a knockdown as they don’t need to jump with their powerful pokes and whiffs into command grabs. Cody has Bad Stone, ZK and RK to combat the grapplers…but you make one mistake and you will find yourself in a world of grappler pain.
actually, i forgot that Abel counts as a grappler. And no, I haven’t fought many Abels with my Cody
anywho, any good advice for fighting Honda’s or Balrog’s???
Bad Stone whilst charging jab Zonk Knuckle- as soon as you see their headbutt/rush moves then release that zonk and let your invulnerables do the rest. Capitalise on knockdowns with your crossup (try to make it ambiguous) and don’t forget to use your frame traps to good effect, especially against Rog as you can easily set up a CH cr.HP xx EX BS into some nasty combos- all from frame trapping with cl/t.MP (as we all know Rogs LOVE to throw out jabs endlessly)
No biggie. Though, I don’t really understand what you’re trying to say other than: Cody VS Hawk/Gief isn’t free for Cody. I apologize if I came off as “noobish” but I’m only speaking from my experience thus far in Super. Coming from Vanilla, I play Boxer so at first I had a lot of frustrations with Gief which, as far as that matchup went, made me a much more patient player. As Cody in Super, I still attest that so long as you keep your spacing proper it shouldn’t be hard at all. If they take to the air for any reason other than if they score a knockdown on you then you can shut them down. As always, this is just my opinion; I don’t want it to seem like I’m slingin “facts” (other than the MKRK follow up, that works ;]).
Don’t underestimate the Zonk guys. I regularly have atleast one Zonk charged. Against fireball spammers I will have both my jab and strong pressed down. I will release one of either buttons to go through a fireball and when another fireball is shot I will have another Zonk already charged. You won’t make it in time if you just keep one charged. Hope this will make the battle against the shoto’s a bit easier.
that t hawk and gief have the tool to rip cody apart if the right person is playing him and you make a mistake, and by your definition of “free” abel vs geif became free thanks to breathless lol that used to be a pain,so i know where your comming from.
Sim is bad for cody
Wow, 4 MP is a great equalizer to the Cody - Bison matchup.
I can’t believe I didn’t start using this earlier for this match.
PS: This is pretty rare but if you ever play good Dan who does the 50/50 mixup on your wakeup, have a fun time…
what’s a good way to deal with SK loops??? I tried zonk, but ended up losing to a fucking cLK
I too am struggling with this matchup (despite maining Sim in vanilla)
Cody’s only saving grace is his option select ultra 2 on sims teleport, but Im not sure what would happen if Sim ‘fake teleported’ as in, if the ultra would still come out.
I’ve found that just chucking rocks and staying at full screen is best for cody, also faking bad stone can sometimes force the Sim to IAT- hoping for that BnB combo, at which point you can easily get a t.MP, cr.MP xx CU (I prefer MK RK at the minute as that tends to send sim flying into the corner)
Once you are in on Sim, throw out LOTS of t.MP, I tend to throw out 2 t.MP (if blocked I then either cr.HP and buffer EX-bad stone for a CH cr.HP or I throw out a cr.MP with the same intention but buffer CU, or I tic throw) obviously if one of the 2 initial t.MP lands then proceed to finish the combo how you see fit.
At 3/4 the screen we can’t compete with Sim. We can’t get in on him either, so we have to throw rocks, try and catch limbs on CH, and wait until sim makes a mistake. Against the lesser Sims, you can fake bad stone, wait for their teleport, and hit them with a charged jab zonk.
If Bison connects on block with LK SK or cr.LK, then you’re in shit. Nothing will punish either on block.
If Bison tries blocked LK SK > cr. LK loop, you can’t throw anything inbetween or his cr. LK will counter hit you.
if you’re NOT in the corner, you can try FA backdash after you block a LK SK. Assuming Bison does a cr. LK, you will absorb the LK then backdash to safety. (this has been working the most for me)
Sorry man, but I’m having the damndest time understanding what you’re saying. Firstly; I’m not trying to say that anyone is “Free” ever. I also understand that a good player can rough you up no matter who you’re playing as. Somehow, I think you misunderstand me.
Also, Breathless is the new hotness. That shit’s beastin’.
Dumb noobish question, but if you’re within “grab” distance of THawk (or any 720 guy) and he does his ultra…is there anything you can do. In training I’ve tried to jump up, and that doesn’t work unless I input the jump prior to the 720.
Given the immense range of THawks 720…thats a big 'ol “I’m f’d” zone against a 720 masher.
I think some of Cody’s worse match-ups wold be; Ryu, Bison and Rufus. Also maybe Abel and Balrog.
Ryu can out fireball you easy, so it’s up to you to get in. Unless you get early life lead, which isn’t really going to happen. The main problem arises when you do get in. Ryu’s SRK is so quick, it owns Cody’s block strings, mix-ups, and frame traps. I’d say it would be the same for Akuma and Ken, I just notice a harder time with Ryu for some reason. Though, the reversal SRK is definitely baitable, it’s hard to keep Cody’s rushdown up on the Shotos.
Bison and Rufus’s rushdown is what kills Cody. Rufus may have trouble getting in, but he will eventually and when he does, you’re screwed. Bison is real tough for Cody. I can’t do much when playing against him.
So, any tips for these match-ups?
nevermind lol,and breathless makes up for the year of getting raped by zangief and chun li lmao
yea i just got shitted on by one,i cryed and never told anyone intil now lmao.i got beat up pretty bad he kept crossing me over with dan kicks and when i finally figured out what was going on it was over.he has some new crazy mixups
that’s exactly how i feel! rufus wrecks me once he’s in and bison i just dont know how to fight him.
Once Dan gets in and you block just 1 Dan Kick (ANY version) you’re playing Rock, Paper, Scissor. Cody only has EX Zonk/Super which can hit Dan if he’s pushing buttons. Once you block a Dan Kick you are at slight - severe frame disadvantage depending on what part of the kick you block. So during blockstun/wakeup, you gotta guess: low, throw, shoryu, block (another Dan Kick).
Here’s an explanation from one of the best Dan players I’ve played against:
Dan’s MK and HK Dankukyakus are -2 on block, which is unpunishable by 95% of the cast. I can’t do them against Zangief and T. Hawk, but they’re safe on everyone else. The LK Danku, reverently known as the Knee of Justice around these parts, is not only safe on block but grants frame advantage, anywhere from +1 to +10 depending on how late the attack is blocked. This leads to the defending character being put on the defensive after any Danku, because of the threat of the Koryuken or a throw, and it also allows for a pseudo-lockdown if you combine close MP with the LK Danku, as those two string together continually with very little space between either move, making it hard on characters who don’t have good invincible reversals (like Cody).
The Danku pressure game makes it hard on characters who don’t have those reversals. Cody, Sakura, Makoto, Bison, Abel, and so on and so forth. Cody’s fortunate at least that Final Destruction will smack the Knee, as it hops over the Ultras of many other characters harmlessly.
Cody is the new Dan folks.
In the Bison match, U2 I think is a better choice than U1.
If Bison decides to Devil’s Reverse too close while you have U2 ready, let him have the Dust while he’s on the way down and he’ll eat the full Ultra if he’s in range.
PS: Bison can punish backdash and focus attack backdash with his U2 from full screen…
