The better the Cody, the better the akuma needs to be. AA is so important in this matchup and Cody is easy to AA due to his floaty jump. An akuma like tokido who REALLY isn’t good at AA’ing is just giving free frametraps to his opponent. Momochi is definitely the better player though. Tokido may have better mixups and reading, but momochi is much more solid and has better fundamentals.
Very true, Tokido really needs to step up his anti air game. Sheva jumped all over him at DUC. Not only is allowing jump leads to free pressure for the opponent it is also a loss of potential damage that should have been taken.

13 non ambiguous easily punishable jumps went completely unpunished. You simply cannot allow that much free pressure and expect to win.
I don’t want to get involved in any of the quote wars, but IMO Cody vs Akuma is 5-5, Cody’s damage/stun rapes Akuma and his walk speed buff is very noticeable to me.
I have to agree with Metallicaband… Equal skilled players opposed, I think this matchup is fairly even. On related note: sigh @ Momochi’s Akuma… I wish he’d come back…
if we’re talking about baiting stuff, how would c.tech with c.mk help? It’s a real question, I really don’t know. From my experience ex zonk eats c.mk alive (obviously) so I can’t see the benefits over say c.mp tech.
Same for jab shoryu, ex tatsu will go through and akuma’s jab dp isn’t ken’s or ryu’s, it still has a lot of recovery.
I also know that ex tatsu is great as an OS on cody’s wakeup (in fact, I think i was the first to post about it way way way back), but how exactly does it help in the scenario we are talking about? Wouldn’t it be risky to try and bait zonk/tech with ex tatsu? I think that his ultra (the one where he throws sand) might punish it on block, but I might be wrong. If so, sorry.
On a last note, I don’t think that teleport is so godlike against cody…even if he doesn’t punish it (and his ex ruffian kick is great for that purpose), you’re still pushing yourself to the corner, and cody’s corner pressure is among the best in the game. I also play 2 really good european cody’s and the corner is the only place where I don’t want to be in that MU.
I thought we were talking about the scenario you outlined. If your baiting you aren’t going to hit any buttons.
Maybe you need to test delayed tech cr mk a bit more? I can say for certain that delayed mk crouch tech will cause ex zonk to whiff in empty jump scenarios like the one you previously outlined. Not only will zonk whiff but you recover in time to punish.
Jab DP recovers around the same time as zonk, so if you went last he can punish, if you went first he can’t. So basically if you’re mashing that DP you end up going first. If he does zonk from a distance he will just beat out jab DP, but then you have neutral jump and crouch tech mk options.
The point is there are ways to deals with zonk.
EX tatsu beats crouch tech and reversal zonk. It’s an option that is amazing on Cody that is ass against say Sagat. (TU smashes it) U2 can punish on block if you’re looking for it, but the timing is tight.
Akuma has all the tools to fight his way out of the corner against Cody. Sure it sucks to give up position but tactical retreats are something you need to do with Akuma.
well it’s hard but it IS punishable by U2 so it’s a really strong and risky guess. Obviously akuma has ways to get out of the corner against cody, he also has ways out against fei long, still it’s preferable to keep your ass far from corners vs certain characters.
I mean, if your answer is “Akuma has all the tools to fight his way out of the corner against Cody” I can just tell you “cody can punish blocked ex tatsu for 450 damage”. Like you said, punishing ex tatsu is hard, and so is getting out of the corner vs cody without taking more than a few hits.
I know ex tatsu is bad vs characters with good reversals, I almost always use dp to bait crouch tech against those (since akuma’s dp will most likely beat theirs, unless opponent is playing seth).
Thanks for the c.mk tech trick, if it really works it’s gonna be great, i’ll test it tonight vs my friend to see if it’s reliable enough
Then don’t use it as a frame trap when he has U2?
Fighting your way out of the corner isn’t as hard as you may think. Part of having success is knowing what options to use. If you’re good with anti air and have a gameplan to deal with Cody pressure then being in the corner isn’t and fighting your way out isn’t nearly as tough as it would be if you lack these qualities.
I mean obviously it’s better to stay out of the corner the entire match but if you have a gameplan the pressure of being in the corner can be drastically reduced.
It’s pretty god. Remember it must be delayed cr tech, if you mash zonk will hit you. If you delay tho zonk will miss een if it’s in your face.
Well, a good cody won’t have many reasons to jump especially when you’re cornered. Half of his normals move him forward and give him frame advantage or set up more frame traps. Ex rocks are also the shit when he got you in the corner and if you happen to get hit by one it’s a free U2 and you’re toast. That m’fer is also a meter building machine once he starts his blockstrings.
Obviously there are ways out, but my top 3 of characters where i REALLY don’t wanna get cornered if possible are fei, bison and cody (and juri also, but you’re more likely to corner her than she is to corner you)

The battle of “I don’t give a fuck…”
I love you. no homo
btw, tokido played REALLY good vs Kindevu. Granted kindevu’s cammy isn’t exceptional, Tokido was doing some really great anti airs
Yeah Tokido was much more solid in these matches. More footsies and anti air than usual. Looks like he’s trying to work on his fundamentals.
Pretty decent Akuma here.

Shoutouts to Tokido winning like eight thousand tournaments over in France at WGC 2k12, including AE singles. His performance was probably one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, super solid, super good mix-ups, great zoning and going 3-0 againts Mago’s Fei, it was a pleasure to watch
