WCG Ultimate Gamer season 2 (with Justin Wong + Tekken 6)

nice they filmed multiple finals and only one was real so it won’t be spoiled

gs justin

Hey guys, check out the King of Kong documentary on Netflix. The filmmakers were able to make a genuinely interesting film about a classic game competition, no gimmicks. Not too surprised that Justin took Pac-Man based on his reflexes and pattern recognition.

Except they made up half the drama just to make the movie interesting, that’s pretty gimmicky

First of all I don’t go around posting in this thread ending my points with “period” like you are.

I find it funny that “I need to be careful with confusing facts and opinion” and it appears you are doing it yourself.

Ya I know looking at players racing in a straight jacket or playing a first person shooter in the reflection of the mirror really determines how well one can adapt or brings in a certain excitement. At least season 1 “gimmicks” made sense or at least manageable.

The thing is the EPIC DRIVING FAILS of justin is the same regardless of gimmicks. The same can be said if a person sucks at FPS, it doesn’t matter the “gimmick” cuz they still suck at it.

What does a style of expression matter here?

I was addressing you apparently mixing the reality show formula with your opinions on the characters. If that’s not what you were doing, then forget it.

As for me confusing the two, I separated talking about fact (saying what works about the formula, and why the formula has to be different for this show) from talking about opinion (my take on removing gimmicks/adding drama, and comparing your view to other people) so that it wouldn’t be confusing.

The S1 gimmicks were less extreme because they had a smaller budget. They couldn’t afford to get too crazy with stuff.

In any case, the gimmicks are not exactly supposed to make sense. That’s the point, and that’s why they are fun to watch. They bring a random element into the challenges to throw off the gamers. Without them, having the gamers play the games straight, results would likely be predictable, and therefore, boring for TV.

It seems you missed what I was saying here. My point wasn’t on seeing whether a person sucks at something. The point here was on viewer’s reactions to things on the show … where one person enjoys seeing Justin/Ryan literally tear up the course in EPIC fashion vs someone else enjoying seeing Caesar calling Jake garbage. The gimmicks add entertainment value that just won’t be gotten through drama alone with this cast. While you may prefer drama over gimmicks, if this show were to focus on the drama and take out the gimmicks, it would suck and have no chance at another season solely because of the lack of a high drama cast.

When did the world turn into a giant bitch fest? If you enjoy watching something, watch it, if you don’t, then don’t? Goddamn I swear it sounds like you people watch it just to complain about it. What’s that quote from gladiator, “Are you not entertained?!” or something to that effect…

The filmmakers misrepresented the timeline somewhat, but I don’t think Steve Wiebe faked those tears. And Billy Mitchell’s hair is the real deal. Sure, Mitchell was an easy target to vilify, but I don’t blame them for basically calling him out on his hypocrisy. I imagine Mitchell’s attitude in the film stems from his ultra-competitive nature and extreme identification with his gaming accomplishments, so to assault his records must really damage his ego. It’s not like Twin Galaxies gave those guys revolving mirrors and said, “Okay, now sit on your joysticks (the Donkey Kong ones are fairly small, mind you) and manipulate them with your sphincters.”

all of this really only started once Justin got knocked out. Can’t blame people for starting their own drama after their main reason for watching the show is eliminated.

They have more on that drama on the Twin Galaxies website. But oh shi- Weibe is running it back to Mitchell and Chien. Welcome to Twin Galaxies

By the same token, if you don’t like reading it, then don’t. Better that ppl actually give a shit to offer some input rather than just shut up and forget about the whole thing. Who knows if some comments may get back to those in charge at WCG, and they may actually be thoughtful enough to listen. It might be worth something that this thread is still alive even though Justin’s out of contention. I’d be more surprised if everyone on SRK who watched the show said “that was some quality viewing, if only every show were like this!”

Haha touche. I dunno man, I enjoy the drama so I watch Jersey Shore too. Not really expecting an academy award winner. It’s fun to read the posts about the players/gamers but when people complain about the show itself it’s kinda like… ehhhh…

So along those notes, I’d love to see Kat get further than C’s to tha D’s. But I’m hoping Yaz wins it all. Jake takes himself way too seriously.

Jake gets my love for the fact dude likes ToeJam and Earl. But I honestly want Yaz to take it.

Well there is always Fap Fap Hannah there.

I honestly wanted Justin or Kat to take it honestly.
Kat is my fall to backup I suppose.

Good shit Justin for placing really high man!

You gave us many entertaining moments…like the driving scene. lol.

Who is the best Street fighter player besides you in the house? Faye? Kat?

Does everyone use Ryu?

Justin did good. Now i am hoping that KAT wins. Gotta cheer on the girl with the big boobies.

I didn’t mind the drama in this season, other than the catfight in the beginning. It’s just nice to see everyone’s personality.

I also like the real life handicaps since they make it so much more entertaining to watch as well as surprising to see. I’m just curious to know how long they can keep it up. There’s only so much you can do to make a game harder but still playable.

So the finals is live this sunday at WCG but they are going to show it next thursday? Wouldn’t every one know the results of it before it even airs??

No finals were live last night, then it airs next thursday, It was mentioned they filmed different endings so nobody there knew, but Im guessing the gameplay took place behind closed doors

Oh I see. Lol…that’s lame.

Ummm dude, JWong was in a straight jacket trying to play a game his was mediocre at. He would’ve stood a better chance if you took out the gimmicky jacket.
I’m not trippin over JWong losing cause its whatever but I would seriously be a little peeved if the finals had a fighting game.
