Was World Heroes garbage?

I like to think it was a decent series (at least WHP was). It had some stupid character designs but was playable, yeah?

Perfect was very playable. There is a thread made by Keits a few years ago, try to find it, it has a lot of good info ( but be aware that the search function is really crappy atm)

It was a fun SF2 rip off. Perfect is decent. Pretty broken but still fun. I loved death match mode in WH2.

I want to see some WH characters in the next KOF (if there is a next KOF).

I loved it, but I wasn’t really old enough to know whether it was garbage or not.
The characters were fun at least.

At least it got shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit past the radar

What do you mean, “it was playable, yeah”? Did it have good controls? Was it fun to play?

Why even bother asking such an asinine question? If you found the game to be enjoyable then it was not “garbage”. Do you honestly believe that whether a fighting game is competitive or not is the only criteria that determines whether it’s good or bad? Get real.

I like the WH characters.

Gameplay… ehhh, not so much. Fun to dick around in once in awhile.

1, 2 and jet were… weird. Perfect is “the best game you never played”.

The viking was pretty beastly, and the judoka chick based on the womens Judo world champ cant remember her name at the moment was really good. But my heart goes to Fuma loved him since the first game. The game was fun overall and you should be able to get a ps2 collections copy for like 5 bucks off of ebay.

note also that the console releases at that time were subpar when compared to the arcades, as with most SNK games.

we had 3 cabs in our arcade mall in 1994.

they had WH2, SF2 and Samurai Spirits 1.

Regarding gameplay, opinions may vary but WH2 was very good and refined too.

World Heroes 2 was probably my favorite fighter out of the 3. I spent more coins there and played with my pal.
WH2 graphics were very fun and full of imagination and expression. Same with Samurai Spirits.

but while WH2 had humour, SS was far more serious and violent.

SF2 graphics looked serious too but they had nothing of the expression of SS. they looked very pale and bland
Strange that SF4 is even worse in that matter than SF2! SF Alpha and III tried at least to add some soul to the characters.

So no, for the time it was released it was great.

Make no mistake, all of the WH games are pretty broken, but WHP and WH2 are pretty fun anyway. WH2 has the fun and novel deathmatch mode with typical SF2 gameplay, even though Dragon and Mudman dominates it with their block infinites (AAA string for Dragon, A fireball for Mudman) WHP has an interesting mix of Guilty Gear and SF2 gameplay as it’s quite fast paced but relies on footsies and spacing and has some neat mechanics, but again Hanzo and C.Kidd pretty much dominates the game. Don’t let any of said dominating characters veer you away though, the games are still pretty fun, 'ol 90’s poverty fighting action, give them a try if you like stuff like that.

First one: controls were ass: hard-to-do specials, lame configuration on regular attacks: one button for punches and one for kicks, hold button for stronger attack, made combos outside of 2-hitters fucking impossible

Second: most interesting in my opinion. Controls were better but they still fucked around with the same button scheme. No real combos besides maybe 3-4 hitters (if the special move hits 2 times) because of this, and the “jam on light punch” auto-combos. Also introduced REAL throw reversals, not sf’s misnamed “throw recoveries”. You actually broke the opponent’s grasp, grabbed them and threw them in return…olr you were counter-reversed, and thrown. Shit was interesting.

Jet: same problems, more characters

Perfect: SAME DAMN PROBLEM, slight variation: you have light punch/kick and medium punch/kick. Hit both for hard punch/kick. Get that shit outta here, and leave it in SamSho 1-2 (the good ones).

Series is ass, simply because of stupid decisions concerning buttons. NGBC fixes this, and shows what could have been.

Even as kid, I loled so hard at how much it was like SFII. That said, I liked it. Not as much as SFII, but I liked it. It was pretty fun for me.

…Then I dropped it when Fatal Fury 2 came out; haven’t played it since. Last time I touched a game with a Fuuma was NGBC. Love that game, did those guys some real justice.

Never played the series, but I was amused by the sight of a football player being in the game.

Johnny Max is the greatest fighting game character ever.

It was pretty fun I recall. Character design was some of SNK’s best.

How could World Heroes be garbage when you have this:

Dude Cpt Kidd throws sharks and ships. That game was awesome. Some of the blockstrings were pretty retarded though, and the impact freeze was broken especially in Death Match mode. Get comboed, freeze, bounce away and land on hazard, freeze, bounce away and land on hazard etc.

WHP was the best fighting game before Super Turbo.

COME AT ME BROS!
