Was World Heroes garbage?

I want to like this post twice.

This was on so many levels of wrong back in the day. I remember laughing my ass off pulling this off in the arcade.

The game was fairly experimental, introduced interesting elements here and there.
Not all the character designs were great, and none of them had a “great” moveset. But some of them were very decent and fun.
Graphics were, honesty, sub-par.
And game balance was never really achieved. I think it was the last of the things they worried about, until the last versions.

Still, there were many memorable things about this, especially the Death Match mode. And the advertises. The game should be back as a power stone or smash bros-like party game

I wouldn’t say it’s garbage because it plays much better than a lot of other SFII clones.
I will say many of the characters were garbage, Though I still wish Janne was in NGBC instead of Mudman.

World Heroes Perfect was VERY fun, and here on srk was a very good thread about it:

I’m downloading Perfect right now. I used to play WH1 all the time back in the day. It’s not a great game, it was totally a SF ripoff, but it was fun. I really did like the death match mode and I’m surprised more fighting games haven’t adopted this kind of thing. Could be really fun.

perfect is nice, and to be honest i much preferred the pressing of two button to get a fierce attack rather than the stupid pressure sensitive crap that preceded it, also i felt it was the perfect way fit 6 buttons onto controllers with limited button say like the snes ( i dont want to use L) or say the psx.

I liked the fact world heros always tried adding new stuff, reflecting projectiles, guard crushes, blah blah, some of it didn’t work, but at least they tried
Maybe they were a bit too ambitious trying to put too much shit in none of it really working

Also has some really funny/charming characters, johnny max, rasputin, broken, mud man, erik, dragon, captain kidd, i dunno i felt they are pretty timeless, sure some are stereotypes even to the point there moves are even part of the stereotype (pirate ship, german missile lol)

Overall the series was pretty rubbish but enjoyable

yes. the deathmatch mode in WH2 was one of the funniest moments we had in the arcades.

I wish they’d included it too in WH2 Jet and Perfect.

Pretty much this, I have been playing it recently but it seems a little busted at times. I do really like the characters though.

Who cares if it’s busted if it’s fun.
