Oops. I changed that but must have accidentally uploaded the wrong update a while over it and lost it or something. Blech. It’s hard to keep track of these things. Ah well.
While I’m here, I might as well post this e-mail before I use it for the plot guide and before I make myself accidentally contradict what I already knew like with the Wu Shu info.
"Hi James!!
I’m always reading your SF plot canon FAQ, and I must admit that it totally rocks… in fact I’ve been reading it for more than a year.
I’d like to give you some suggestions:
You could add the US versions of the measures (Although I do prefer the measures in cm than in inches, it’s more accurate). This could make the FAQ more complete. I must also say that the measures that you have are all from SFZ3. Between SFZ3 and SF2 some of them changed slighty.
If you need some help, I could send you those measures for you.
I know this information isn’t canon, but it’s a curiosity that you could add to your FAQ. In Cannon Spike, Cammy’s age is stated to be 21, and Nash/Charlie’s age is stated to be 28. According to SFZ3 info, Cammy is 16, so Nash/Charlie must be around 23. Again, I know that it isn’t canon (since the story happens in the year 200X), but it’s a interesting curiosity.
According to the Videogame Magazine Gamest Mook Vol. 159 Street Fighter Zero 3 page 137, there’s a Karin’s bio sheet telling that her birthdate is 197X September 15. All the other measures also match with your bio, so I think that it might be official… (but I must remark that it’s a Masahiko Nakahira, Karin’s creator, bio, not Capcom’s).
I read on your Gill section that you have a book that Gill is very close to Kolin, can you send me a scan of this picture?
I would be very glad.
Thanks for your attention, and keep with this amazing job.
Lord Vega"
Speaking of which, that reminds me… what was Guile’s position in the air force? I know that Charlie was a first lieutenant. How old do you have to be to be one of those? Charlie according to canon spike age differences would be 23 years old in SFA3, which is seven years younger than Guile. I believe Guile was of higher rank, isn’t he? …weeee, go random analyzing into random random things!
Hey Saiki, any chance you know the translated name of Sakura’s Shun Goku Satsu? I thought it was something different from Akuma’s Instant Hell Murder.
Oh yea, can anyone give me the dialogue of Ibuki vs Oro in Third Strike when you play as Ibuki and fight Oro as a mid-boss? SF Eternal lists an Oro Ibuki connection so I’m wondering what it is.
I think that SGS move was stated here once before to be “Spring Breeze Murder”.
And the Ibuki vs. Oro dialogue goes something like this:
Ibuki: "Excuse me, but are you a Sennin?"
Oro: "Yes, I am the great Sennin. What do you want, girl?"
Ibuki: "(He’s as old as they get, but he is a master I guess…) Well, I know it sounds crazy, but I’m in the middle of a graduation exam. They won’t allow me to pass unless I beat you in five minutes, so… fight with me!"
Oro: “What?! I thought you wanted to go out on a date with me! I’m so disappointed!”
I don’t really see a connection there, unless something got changed in the US version. At most, they could be making Oro into an old pervert, or something.
Yea, but I still need to confirm that it’s Spring Breeze Murder because snowstorm said it was mistranslated in the guide. …well, I don’t technically NEED to but it’d be nice And I could’ve sworn I got Spring Breeze Murder from snowstorm herself (well, from spying on her posts) but maybe it was a variation on it or something.
…Ibuki fights Oro as her (ninja school?) graduation exam? That’s just… weird. Still, I guess that battle has a lot less chance of being what-if than a lot of other Third Strike battles since it could technically be what leads Ibuki to be able to graduate to move onto the university in her ending, and of course, SF Eternal appears to be verifying it. I can’t read the Japanese but I can see the line connecting Ibuki to Oro. The line is a one-way arrow from Ibuki pointing to Oro, indicating that it’s Ibuki seeking Oro out, so I guess that’s it, then.
Oro’s pervert comment… well, he’s either joking or it’s that typical Japanese ‘old men are perverts’ stereotype. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if it were the latter. …or a merging of the two.
Thanks!
Guile in SFZ3 was a first lieutenant like Nash. And I wouldn’t take Cannon Spike’s age thing seriously at all. Guile was 33 in SF2 which means he was 30 in SFZ3. (I think). I would assume if Nash and Guile are friends and same rank, Nash would be around the same age as Guile.
And Sakura’s Shungokusatsu translates to “Spring Hell Murder”
And the Ibuki to Oro connection is what u said.
While I’ve always thought of Ibuki vs. Oro as a meeting that did take place for being one of the few in the game that’s needed for an ending to happen, I don’t like to use the word “connection” unless the subject is a relationship that goes waaaaay back, like the one established between Gen and Chun-Li. On that accord, you may as well say that every character in a SF game is connected to every character because they have all fought in the same tournament together.
Thanks, Saiki! Ah, so I guess I did have the wrong translation, after all. Well… slightly. Guess with that and Guile’s rank to confirm that Nash’s age in Cannon Spike is probably wonky, I can go ahead with the next update, now.
Connection probably isn’t a very good word, but I don’t know what other word to use. I have a flowchart where I can’t read the words that has lines connecting characters to each other, so connection is all I can think of (it’s not just ‘meetings’ since Ken is connected to Guile, and Ken has never had a mid-boss battle with Guile).
I honestly never knew what the Ibuki Oro dialogue was. Don’t have Third Strike and the dialogue faq didn’t have it.
Oh, SF Eternal confirms Makoto’s fight with Ryu, too The “Non-connected to anyone else in the SF Eternal flowchart” SF3 characters are Remy, Hugo, Elena, and Q.
In SFA3, it’s Fei Long and Dee Jay, I think. Hmm… come to think of it, I can use this to confirm that Makoto vs Ryu, Ibuki vs Oro, and Rolento vs Cody occurred, at least.
Hmm… come to think of it, I guess there’s still one more thing before I can update, then. There’s a two-way connection between E. Honda and Zangief in this flow chart. Wonder if that’s in reference to Gief’s SFA3 ending or something. But I can’t for the life of me see how that ending could happen (Gief and Honda teaming up to destroy the psycho drive)
TiamatRoar - I have that Gill and Kolin Pic. I’ll send you a scan when I get a chance and you can pass it along. I also have that SFZ3 Gamest Mook so I’ll take a look at it when I get around to it.
shotokanrpg - Hope you don’t mind but I got your E-Mail from your Homepage and sent you the Ryu and Chun-Li Pic. Yeah, it’s ugly but oh well.
Saiki is the Oro v Ibuki EXACTLY what was said or was anything at all changed? Just curious.
The chart says Hugo is unconnected to ANYONE?
But doesn’t that contradict statements about him NOT being knocked out by the ShinShoryuken? Wouldn’t that fact in and of itself, refer to a connection between Hugo and Ryu?
Thanks, Sano. I’ll try to keep my inbox with some spare room so it’ll have room for the pic when you scan it and send it^^
The chart’s missing lots of connections. For example, there is no connection of Ryu to Chun-Li despite how they’re officially friends and Chun-Li even appears in Ryu’s SFA3 ending. There’s also no connection from Rose to Vega/Balrog, or even Birdie to Balrog/M. Bison. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ibuki vs Oro weren’t changed at all in the Japanese version. I mean, it does fit into her ending rather well…
Here, I’ll give the connections here:
There are descriptions of what the relationships are in Japanese, but… well, that’s in Japanese so I can’t read it. The majority we already know, though (though I’m still trying to figure out how Zangief with Honda can fit…). This list here goes by US names. Missing Guy & Ryu. About the chart, maybe it’s about the active relationships?
Active relationships? Do you mean most current relationships or something?
I was wondering if it was based off of in-game things. In-game mid-boss battles that are storyline important, or even just in-game intros, but Guile connected to Ken throws that out the window (in fact, Guile connected to Ken throws lots of things out the window, considering that the majority of ‘friendship’ connections aren’t in the chart besides this one…).
Weeee. I noticed that despite all the connections to Bison, the only one which is two-way is Bison to Rose, and the only ones that are one way from Bison to another character is Bison to the Dolls (and Bison to Cammy, but she’s a Doll, too. …this did make me think there were TWO one-way connections from Bison to Cammy for the longest time until I realized the second was pointing to the entire ‘Doll category’ in general, by the way.)
Hmm… maybe I should just slap that list of chart connections into the plot guide. But the html file always has a fit when I copy and paste big gobs of text at once. Ah well.
TiamatRoar - No prob. If all goes according to plan I should send the Scan sometime between tomorrow morning and next week. I may become an uncle any minute since my brother’s about to have a kid and that may put everything on hold for a second!
The Relationship Chart is actually more detailed than I thought. The Relationship Charts I’ve seen in the past are either just to give you a gist of what’s going on - Any of the Hong Kong comics being printed in the US now - missing a connection or two that only people who know the storyline would know they are missing - The Ranma 1/2 Relationship/Love Chart in the Art Book released here - or very detailed not missing anything - A Relationship/Love Chart on Buffy the Vampire Slayer I’ve seen in it’s Official Fanzine. Methinks it’s like the Ranma 1/2 one. Shocked about the Guile/Ken thing being in the book. Perhaps Okamoto told them about that while he was putting all his office supplies in a big cardboard box, LOL!
I can back up what the person who E-Mailed you was saying about the Gamest Mook saying that Karin’s Birthday is listed as “197X September 15.” Of course, that’s from her creator so I can’t confirm if that’s official with Capcom.
The Book has four pages dedicated to Karin, with a bunch of Masahiko Nakahira drawings. One of her in a Bikini, one where she’s up a tree, one with her father holding her up as a baby, one where she’s fighting a bull and one where she’s in Outer Space. Also has pages from his Manga, pics of Ryu, Sakura and an early Shadowloo Cammy Pic where she has a slightly different red uniform and a Rifle.
Masahiko Nakahira also sid the cover to the SFZ3 Gamest Mook! Ryu and Ken are trowing Hadokens at each other while Karin and Sakura strike a pose. One of the Best features about the book is that everyone’s voice actor is written in English, which is why I know my favorite Voice actor Yuji Ueda (Voice of Sagara Sanosuke and a long list of credits including Jin Saotome, Guilty Gear’s Zappa, Pokemon’s Brock, Love Hina’s Keitaro, Cowboy Bebop Movie’s Lee) also provided the voice for SFZ3’s Balrog(Ninja) and Blanka.
I don’t know if you need to include the Relationship Chart in the Plot Guide since the Plot Guide has more info than the Chart does and is more accurate. Well, suppose it would be cool for people who won’t get the new SF Art Book.
'Ey, welcome to the club! My half-brother had a kid with his new wife about a year ago. Being called “uncle” just makes you feel more wise, don’t it?
And yeah, I know of that pic with Ryu and Ken fireball throwing, and Sakura and Karin posing. I don’t know where I found the pic, though. Wasn’t that originally side art for the Japanese A3 cabinet? I’m putting up it now for everyone to see.
Hmm, those connections could be included as confirmation of some battles happening that we weren’t positive about before, at least.
Sano - Thanks for the picture! I replied in your e-mail…
That relationship/Love Chart is all screwed up. According to Season Seven, Buffy only LOVES Spike and the rest of the bunch are near useless to her.
Ditto for Willow, she loves Kennedy and everybody else can rot.
andore was in final fight 1 and 2
So Hugo had to be in final fight 3.
it’s hard figure out which final fight game hugo was in.
The Andores in Final Fight 3 are all just named “Andore”, too. …heck, “Andore” is all there is in that game. No G. Andore, or U. Andore, or F. Andore, really.
…your name reminds me. That flow chart in SF Eternal doesn’t have any connection between Ryu and Sagat. WTF?
GF2 - Yep. That’s the same Pic - Thanks!
Hcparker - WHOOPS! Granted, I just glanced at the Chart and don’t care much about Willow or Buffy since I only like Xander. Since I only like one character it wasn’t enough to even by the Magazine.
Damn Joss Whedon! He made my favorite character loose an eye and his girl! Should of killed Kennedy so me seeing Xander and Willow walking arm and arm with each other in the last episode could of at least lead me to foolishly hope that Willow would stop being a lesbo and hook up with Xander. Fat chance. Well, I’ll just go back to Nikita being my favorite show anyways.
Back on Topic - No Sagat Ryu Connection? WHOA…
So what’s up with a new SF Game next year? Udoneko and Chris Jelinek of Capcom USA hint we’ll get something, in an interview Capcom said we’ll get something that may or may not be a continuation and now the Fan Art Book says we won’t get squat. I’m confused.
I’ve seen this ‘cheat’ floating around on many sites while I was searching for some CvS2 quotes.
“Victory quotes
Hold Start + FP after winning a stage to make your character say an opponent specific quote. Hold Start + FK to make the character talk with a team member.”
I didn’t think that Capcom of America actually translated the character-specific and the team-specific quotes, but apparently, assuming this ‘cheat’ works and all those sites aren’t lying, they did.
If it works, could someone go and get post some for me? For the purpose of Street Fighter Plot research, specifically, right now, I’m looking for any Kyosuke to Sakura quotes (both team and Kyosuke vs Sakura and Sakura vs Kyosuke) to see if there’s a familiarity between the two, although if you see anything else interesting that brings up a new point (or reiterates something lots of people still don’t believe, like Zangief being gay), I’ll gladly take those, also (We already got most of the Eagle quotes, of course).
