Just found out from that site that was listed earlier, that Sagat was actually scarred by Ryu from a cheap shot!
Sagat had actually BEATEN Ryu, and went to reach for his hand knowing he had already won. Yet, Ryu was suddenly inflicted with the Dark hadou, and inflicted a Metsou Shoryuken to Sagat.
Proof of this, is from Alpha 3. When you pick Evil Ryu, he flashes back to his fight with Sagat from SF 1…
Muy ThaiEmperor is right. Canonly Satsui No Ryu only existed long enough to scar Sagat. The SNH Ryu you select in the game is there more for game player’s enjoyment. No way could he perform a move like the Shungokusatsu since he’s never even seen the move or had it taught to him. Not official at all, but the way Satsui No Ryu was interpreted in the SFA Anime was a lot closer to what Satsui No Ryu would actually be like, IMHO.
And yeah, I know none of the Animes are canon, if I wasn’t clear on that.
-Prove it, huh? Play 2i. In his own ending, Alex returns and states that he has avenged Tom’s defeat at Gill’s hands. In short, he won the tournament. Ryu’s ending shows him travelling to America to find Ken. They don’t even mention the tourney in his ending. I don’t think that Ryu has ever even fought Gill. Alex is the main character of SF3. The story revolves around Gill’s interest in other strong souls, and he (Alex) is Gill’s main adversary and interest.
-Read above. Ryu hasn’t even ever fought Gill. According 3s dialogue. Ryu and Alex don’t meet face to face untill 3s, well after the tourney. Alex knows of Ryu, has heard stories about him, and maybe even saw him at the tourney, but considering the fact that they never met until after the tourney means that it would be impossible for the two of them to have fought together against Gill. Alex won the tournament.
-Oro is strong enough to beat almost anybody with only one arm. Ryu was the only one to put up a decent fight against him and Oro was incredibly impressed by his skill and potential, especially considering how talented he is “at such a young age”. If you pay attention to Oro you’ll notice just how highly he regards Ryu. Whenever he observes another mortal fighter, he compares them to Ryu and notes that they don’t compare to him. When he is training, he becomes excited at the prospect of fighting and teaching Ryu. He even makes allusions towards Ryu when he refers to Gill. Oro definitely does not think that Ryu is weak.
Welcome to the fold. All of the info that you read in that faq was actually compiled here in this thread first. Of course, there are another 1200+ posts that were wiped out back when SRK blacked out, but Tiamat had already compiled the info into is plot guide so most of it wasn’t lost. Too bad we lost those posts. There was a lot of good discussion. Man, the original thread started nearly two years ago. Good times.
Also, for the record, SnH Ryu only existed for a split second, so while 99% of his appearances are non canon, he still does officially exist in the US storyline.

PS Just noticed that this thread is almost as big as the original. Congrats to all who participated.
Is Evil Ryu’s ending the only proof that Ryu scarred Sagat w/ a cheap shot? Because I always took the ending that Ryu just lost control and killed everybody after beating Akuma. There is a shot in black and white during the ending that shows all the characters lying in front of Evil Ryu, but that wasn’t a flashback, they didn’t die. The shot in the ending doesn’t show Sagat getting the scar, just him eating a Dragon Punch. Who’s to say that that isn’t from their first SF1 meeting, but instead it’s from E. Ryu’s mid-boss match? I just don’t see how that ending is relevant within the storyline at all. It didn’t happen.
The other proof is that Ryu’s SFA2 storyline pretty much entirely depends on Evil Ryu beating Sagat, since that’s the whole point why Ryu is seeking out Akuma to ask about Satsu no Hadou in the first place (well, I guess the whole ‘killed his master’ may be a secondary thing)
According to the birthdates in SSF2, Sagat was born July 2nd 1955, meaning he’d be 48 if SF4 took place in 2003, surely young enough to give Ryu, who would be 39, (July 21st 1964) a good challenge.
It’s atleast the best idea that I can think of. It would also be pretty cool, because it would be kind of a throwback. A nod to the older days or and homage to the original SF. Besides, SF’s about fighting, I could use a break from world domination. It’s also a very flexible format in that it allows you to continue introducing new characters if need be, while at the same time leaving the door open for older characters to make a return appearance.
For some reason, I can’t edit my post at the moment. Anyway…
I just wanted to add that I really want to see Ryu and Sagat fight. After waiting all of these years, it would be a cardinal sin not to conclude it. I don’t want to see Sagat retire until after this is settled. I also think that at around 50, Sagat would still be a major force to reckon with (especially in the SF scene). I don’t know what would happen afterwards, but I at least want some closure.
The geezers in Streetfighter aren’t slowed just because of age. Gen was a good fighter and (we presume) only quit due to his illness which killed him. Oro…no need to elaborate on this one. Didn’t he call Gouki a “young man”? What would he think of Sagat?
Probably because Capcom in All About Capcom and many other official sources.
I thought you were asking for in-game proof. SHEEZ, anything that we do not disclaim as unconfirmed is pretty much directly stated by Capcom. I thought we went over this, already.
More people need to read the damn URL in my sig. Or at Fighter Mania. Going over the already directly officially stated for the 100th time really vexes me.
The fact that Capcom would have Sagat say that his next fight with Ryu will be “worthy of the Gods” in SF2 Revival leads me to beleive that Sagat will be in SF4, but with Capcom who can tell.
Does the average Street Fighter fan who doesn’t know much of the actual storyline even care? The rematch does occur in the EX series and Ryu wins. Now, the EX series is not canon at all but the average fan would not know this, especially in the U.S. The only MAJOR difference with EX storyline and SF2’s (there are other differences, but this is the big one) is that Kairi killed Gouki. Something that Capcom U.S.A. is not screaming from the mountain tops. So the average gamer may think the rematch already went down and Ryu won.
Here’s some other instances of how creative minds handled the Ryu/Sagat rematch. NONE OF THESE ARE CANON but they are interesting to look at.
SF3 New Generation Hong Kong Comic - they fought again and Ryu gave Sagat another scar giving him an X! Later on Sagat put all his power to give Ryu a scar like his. This used so much energy it caused him to burn up and die, but Ryu remained with the scar! Can’t read the dialog so I’m just going by artwork.
SF USA Cartoon - Ryu beat Sagat with a Super Hurricane kick - One of the better episodes in this AWFUL series.
Masahiko Nakahira’s Ryu Final Manga - Capcom takes lots of ideas from said author (he created Kairen) even if his works are not official. Sagat knocked Ryu down but Ryu managed to reopen the scar on Sagat. Can’t read the dialog but it looked like a tie.
I have been looking for documented proof of this for the longest time. Heard everything from killed by Kairi/Ryu/Garuda to simply not put in the game for time constraints. Can you please list your source? Or can you list the source where you are getting any other EX story information you have?
I read that from an old post Saiki made that was listed on Fat Dave’s site about 2 years ago, before this discussion Thread was even up. If you don’t know Saiki’s the main SF Expert here who’s able to read Japanese and knows someone who works for Capcom of Japan.
TAS also repeated the same thing about Gouki getting killed by Kairi, and he also has connections to Capcom of Japan.
I really don’t want to speak out of turn since I know both of these guys are usually very busy and post when they can, but going by memory of what Saiki said -
Kairi woke up one day all bruised up one day with no memory. (Most likely Gouki messed up giving him all those wounds.) He faced Gouki and killed him. He confronted his long lost sister Hokuto, and when they fought, Hokuto went into evil mode and they both killed each other while Nanase witnessed. Kairi, Hokuto, Nanase and the sword guy (his name is Hayate, right?) are from the same clan.
I printed out what Saiki said back then and have it in my house SOMEWHERE so I’ll try to find it and post his exact words. But, if I remember the page I printed out cut off words here and there so I’ll do the best I can if I can’t find the original address of the site or if it’s no longer up yet. Apologies to Saiki and no disrespect intended.
Good, good! I heard something similar to this. Thanks for the info. This clears a lot up. Of course I’d like the specific list (ie: AOC page x or whatever), but this is good enough for now.
Do you know anything else about the series? I heard the Japanese versions of some of the EX games have text endings. Any specific characters you know anything about?
