L’art d’Andore

Another piece of the big FF art puzzle.
http://fightingstreet.com/pics/temp/various/Andores.jpg
The names are Andore, Andore G and Andore Jr. Isn’t Andore Jr. the pink one or the red one usually? Is Andore G. the grandfather? He looks just as young as the rest.

Has anyone saved the SFA3 ad for the GBA? I was too late.

What I’ve come across so far for speeds is that shock waves from Guile’s and Nash’s moves travel faster than sound, and Dee Jay’s air slasher travels as fast as sound with it being a sound wave.
I’d assume that the rest of emitted projectiles would be subject to the user’s own thrust, air resistance, and gravity for their speeds.

Andore’s pink and Andore Jr.'s red for the FF1 color schemes. The scan shows them from FF2 however.

In FF1, at least in the guide book, Andore Jr. is red and Andore is pink.
http://fightingstreet.com/folders/artworkfolder/artworkpages/ff_art_pages/ff1_art_pages/ff1_fullbodyart.html

In the FFCD manual, only Andore Jr. is shown, in red. On the recently shown Early Days page, the same picture is named Andore (not Jr.).

The page where I found the sprites, linked to in my last post, also named the pink one Andore and the red one Andore Jr.

My bad then. Thanks.

Aerialgroove

Thanks for the Vega scan and those artwork pieces (including the FF ones). They are great!
About that artwork for unnoficial products, I’ve seen that Cammy one somewhere else, but, I never saw T.Hawk, Fei Long or Dee Jay’s.
They are very close to the anime ones (not identical though). and… that art with Shadoloo’s moutain (base) on the background… isn’t that
the cover of SSF2 for SNES?
that anime picture, the one with the characters using the champion edition version of their clothes, I’ve seen another picture of that same style before.
If memry serves me right, only the character faces are shown (they are all together).

Sano
No hurries with the scans man!

Vasili10
you mentioned that on those capcom mags there are tons or Rockman info.
Does it mentions what happens with Rock, Roll, Blues/Protoman, Bass/Forte and Dr. Wily?
I mean, I know that Dr. Right build X, and that Dr. Wily built Zero. But what happened with them?

thanks

Unfortunately nope.

Should Andore be pink and Andore Jr. red, it would be more difficult to make Hugo Andore Jr.

Here’s a better scan from the SFIIING Secret File with all characters from SFI, SSFIIX/animated movie, SFIIING and SFZ2Gold as well as FFI.

At Mad Man’s Cafe I asked about SF commercials and Grave said the music for the Balrog commercial…

…was by a Capcom team doing most of the game music called Alpha Lyra (bottom left in the video), he posted the link to a Wikipedia article, you will be redirected to…

So that might be where they get their names from.

Right, forgot about that mess. Hugo, the black sheep Andore presumed to be formerly Andore Jr.

LOL if anything I’ll be on vacation 2 weeks from now, so you should get it then…

Hey Aerialgroove, found this pirated Street Fighter II cart. Looks like Tetsuo Hara’s style.

http://www.nesplayer.com/pirates/MasterFighterVI.jpg

Yeah I know that one, to be more precise, it’s a mix of two paintings, one by Tetsuo Hara (Muscle Bomber) and one by Akiman I guess (SFII).

Sign’s up. 19 days and counting, hopefully.

Sheng Long from SFIV (this year’s April the 1st).

Not a very good joke. The fake Sakura was better.

Er, what? Did I miss something, or is this referring to something long discussed? Cause as far as I know, I thought we had long established that Hugo = Andore.

Really? I thought we had established that Capcom doges the question and it will always stay up in the air. So you say he’s Andore, not Andore Jr?

I think the facts speaking for him being Andore (or Jr) were that in the 15th A. book it mentioned him being in FF (but that might be a mistake as it’s not stated anywhere else), that he chills with the same Poison that is in Mad Gear with Andore and can be seen standing next to him and that he appears in Cody’s (FF character) SFZ3 stage. Besides that fact that they look, sound and move the same of course.

Reasons for him not being Andore were that Andore is not a German or from Germany and that the name doesn’t sound German either (well Hugo is more of a French than a German name but the SFIII nationalities are a whole different story). That he would be rather old in SFIII (not sure about that one) and that their bios don’t have much in commone (no Mad Gear, just wrestling).

From the plot guide:

It states Hugo's history that he left home at the young age (20 years),

a home consisting of him and his mother, Father and his Two Sisters.
He was Firstborn, First Son too. The statement of being ā€œFirst sonā€ would
indicate that there was at least a second son, which would be Andore Jr.
And he left home and went straight to Pro-Wrestling. And lost his partner
through some scheme of his rival’s.

Hugo's default colors are Andore's (not Jr's) and he is stated to be

first-born, therefore if he’s Andore, then he’s Andore and not Andore
Jr.

Andore Jr's bio from Capcom Classics Collection (which is apparently

his FF1 bio as well taken from Capcom of Japan’s archives):

ā€œAndore Jr. grew up acting as a sparring partner for his pro wrestler older
brother, giving him a good repertoire of wrestling moves. He’s still in
training in hopes of one day surpassing his brother.ā€

This seems to match Andore (not Jr.) being Hugo. (not in the plot guide: Because Hugo ā€œwent straight to pro-wrestlingā€, and thus would be Andore according to this)

I've seen it mentioned that a sourcebook says Hugo (not Andore) took

his father, brother, and grandfather with him to America. Of course, if
Hugo is Andore, that would be Father Andore, Andore, and Grandfather
Andore.

From Golden Dragon: Hugo lost his tag partner because of some false

rumors spread by a rival wrestler. The tag-team tournament is in 3 months,
so he enters the SF3 tournament in search of a new partner. All that stuff
Tiamat said about running away from/leaving home is true. I have just a few
things to add. According to the Red Cyclone, Hugo IS Andore, not Andore Jr.
He grew up on a farm in Germany, which consisted of him, his mother, father,
younger brother (Andore Jr.), and his 2 sisters. He left home to vist
America at 20 years old and eventually wound up in Metro City where he
joined the Mad Gear Gang. He hasn’t returned home once since he left. He’s
the Andore in the pink outfit in FF1.

In FF1, Hugo wears the same outfit as he does in the SF3 series. Uncle

Andore wears a black outfit with white dots on his tank top has a moustache,
Andore Jr. wears a red outfit w/ black dots on his tank top, and Grandfather
Andore wears a blue outfit w/ black dots on his tanktop. He also wears
eyeglasses.

One of Andore's quotes when you fight him is "You punch like my

sister!" ā€˜Andore’ far as I know was never stated to have a sister,
but ā€˜Hugo’ sure was (Hugo has two, actually, but still fits). (Tiamat note: Hmm… this is from Final Fight Streetwise. Maybe need to edit this paragraph in the guide to say that)

All indications from the guide are that Hugo is Andore, as far as I can tell. Of course, it’s not like I can read Japanese, but that’s what I recorded from what other people said. shrug

Did you mean
that would be Father Andore, Andore Jr., and Grandfather Andore?

What source book could that be?

Thanks!

I think we can defenitely say that there is nothing that proves Andore can’t be Hugo. So it’s at least possible. Here are a few thoughts:

  1. The Andores’ FF1 art looks just as described above:
    http://fightingstreet.com/folders/artworkfolder/artworkpages/ff_art_pages/ff1_art_pages/ff1_fullbodyart.html
Ingame however they don’t have mustache and glasses, just different colored clothing.

In their FF2 art they all seem to have the same age as Andore and no mustache/glasses.
http://fightingstreet.com/pics/temp/various/Andores.jpg
Kind of strange for a ā€œgrandfatherā€. Especially since he looked different in FF1. Must be a mistake.

First I thought maybe they are not actually grandfather and unlce but just act as if. Like Sonom acts Japanese and Poison acts like a man. Or as a wrestling team gimmick or something. With Hugo being Andre it would mean they actually are one family.

  1. The name Hugo and Andre (The Giant) are more Frenche than German. I believe that Capcom planned to make Hugo French but then for some reason made him German and Remy French, both nationalities completely random and for Remy also not fitting his stage.

That made me think that maybe ā€œHugoā€ (without family name) is his stage name, not real name. As presented in Cody’s stage. Wrestlers usually don’t use their real names. His name might also just be Hugo Andore but that doesn’t sound German at all.

I also think Capcom designed Andore to have ā€œAndoreā€ as his first name like Andre. Then when they added clones (Jr., GF, Uncle) it became his family name which could be an excuse for not fitting to his bio.

Talking bout Mad Gear members:
Crayfish sent me this one. It’s Romeo from John Carpenter’s Escape From New York:

Looks a lot like Mad Gear’s J (Metro City):

Argh, yea, it’d be Andore Jr. Oops. Another (one of many) thing that needs to be corrected, I guess ^^;

As for the source book… hmm, dunno, I forget. Been too long and I only said ā€œa sourcebookā€ because by then there was so much data backlog that sometimes I’d lose track of specific source names. But either Golden Dragon or Red Cyclone might know, I guess, judging from what I recorded there.
