This may seem out of the blue, but are there any, um, “official” fan statistics floating around on who the most popular/unpopular characters are?
That could give us an idea on who will make the cut in SF4.

Kataklysmic-- Yu can pretty much see who the least popular characters are by viewing the giant character pool over at:
www.capcom.com/BBS
Go to the Street Fighter Section, then Sf4.
Oh yeah! My Ibuki’s the most wanted 3Ser! And Alex is a close second! Capcom had better look at this, dammit!
Well, that was somewhat relieving. But other than SF, is there some account for character popularity in Capcom’s other fighting series? I’m just curious because SNK seems to keep close tabs on fanwishes a lot. And when a character makes some sort of impact, we’re usually quick to know about it (ie. Ryu, Terry, Sol, Chun, Morrigan, Iroha, Shiki, and so on).
For anime/manga characters, there is the monthly magazine poll which indicates their placement.
I imagine there’s something similiar for game characters. Of course it would most likely be in the Japanese gaming magazines and therefor you’re going to get different results then you would stateside.
As for thoughts on ‘Four’… I’m going to make an assumption that I haven’t seen yet on this thread and say that the new updates for the HD-Remix we’re getting, will impact in some way story-wise, what’s going with four.
I think the plot guide still refers to Guile as being the most likely winner of the second tournament and him seeing Gouki show up and kill Vega in fairly brutal fashon may explain why he would be in SF4 (“hi Ken, it’s Guile, listen when you and Ryu were training, was there a BIG bastard in black hanging around your master?”)
For HD Remix, they’re only interested in revamping the sprites and rebalancing the gameplay for an alternate version. SF4 will need to make references to what happened in SF2 and do it in more detail, like giving match match results, explaining why Ryu and Sagat didn’t fight, and so on.
My understanding is their updating the stories a la revival to make anything more coherent. If that is true, those changes maybe what Four references.
Does Necro make an appearance in “Ryu Final”?
Not that I remember.
Alright, just checking.
Technically no. Think of Rolento and Dhalsim’s Sakura Ganbaru! appearances.
Was he a cameo or little background character, or no appearance at all?
I know it’s been confirmed that Mike and Balrog are different characters, but it still doesn’t make sense to me why Capcom wouldn’t merge them into one.
Probably because Mike doesn’t look like Balrog(M.Bison == Mike Tyson).
They’re two different characters, i don’t see why they would be merged.
The last choice you gave.
Besides what Lonewolf_Fenrir pointed out, their personal histories wouldn’t fit. Mike fights in SF1 for a nobler cause than M. Bison ever does in all the appearances he’s made. It was solely Capcom USA’s ignorance that provoked them to ever think they were one and the same.
I guess you guys are right. What was Mike’s reason for fighting?
edit: what’s the link for the most recent version of Tiamat’s plot guide?
what’s the difference between Tiger Blow and Tiger Uppercut?
To help save his hospitalized sister.
The former was the intermediate step towards the latter. Sagat masters the tiger uppercut once he’s freed himself of his rage.

Finally ready with this one, here’s Sodom’s Zero 2 account from Gamest SFZ2 and AASFZ2. Enjoy, and hopefully the next one will be up much quicker since it’s relatively short.
Sodom from SFZ2
Tenchu Satsu
After the dismantling of Mad Gear, Sodom was sensing that there was something mistaken with his own Japanism.
During however, he was still wanting to deny this feeling fully.
By no means ever a time for capriciousness and the like, it was expected that for him would be a sincere attitude in pursuing for Japanism.
Yes, that wouldn’t be forgotten. The day he was touched by “Japan’s” culture born in the beginning, he was deeply moved the time he saw Richard Chamberlain star in the TV drama “Shogun”. But, a long time had amassed since the “descent from heaven”, along with the pride of “Japan authority” was wanting to crush that man’s every word.
“You misunderstand something in the manner of Japan.”…
The complicated thoughts in Sodom’s mind controllably vanished. His legs shall know to go towards the path of the Japanese.
Unexpectedly, while passing by a bookstore’s show window his eye stopped.
“Silent Meditation ZEN: THE WORLD OF WABISABI”
“Murder Within the Heavens: URANAI, THE UNLUCKY WORDS”…
Expressing a concern as a showcase of blows, he borrowed from them upon returning home after he finished reading them in one sitting. He was unable to comprehend a single passage he read. For some reason or other he caught on to the books’ contents, that on a ferry to Japan he hardened his decision to carry out training at a Zen temple.
Deeply within beyond imagining Japanism, seizing nothing but the “boo-she-doh soul” cut through a grand mental world.
The “wa-bi-sa-bi mind” hidden in the “tea ceremony”, anything at all is not just for “showing off”, indeed. And so the ordinary of Japan’s calendar and divination would utilize as “unlucky words”…such matters in Japan it is said that he would loathe. How mysterious, for his mouth then to distance from likely ominous things.
"Boo-tsoo-metsoo, dai-kyoh, ten-choo-sah-tsoo…"
This might be what someone would hear Sodom mutter.
This being the occassion on which his techniques would rush at his enemy, the matter of uttering “unlucky words” presents mental damage to opponents becoming the manner of the so-called technique taking them in.
Since then still more mistakenings to risk polishing, even more of a power-up Sodom would have fulfilled.
Next time, Nash. Thanks always minna-san.
