Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

re: Akuma scan

Just to clarify, that came from EGM’s 1994 Summer Fighting special issue, so it probably came out in May of 1994, long after the Sheng Long april’s fool’s joke.

All of these links are broken.

You only posted the shortcut of the URLs, Scissorman, not the whole URL. the "/…/"is what’s missing.

Sorry. Here they are.

EDIT: Where does everyone here find most of these import art books, and gamests? If they’re from Yahoo japan or any other japanese site, how do you convert japanes currency to american currency?

How do you buy stuff from Yahoo japan auctions?

There are services that will buy items for you (bid for you on auctions) and store them, then send them to you. In the end you will pay about 4?5x the original price. I won’t recommend any, the ones I’ve tried sucked. Recommendations welcome.

EDIT:
I got that one Scissorman, when I got time I’ll scan some pages.

Cleaning up and ditching old video game mags, I always check if there is something SF/Capcom related and cut it out. I found two semi-interesting things:

  1. Apparently Capcom tried to make a PS1/SS port of Dungeons & Dragons but gave up after over a year.
  2. Apparently Nintendo tried to get an exclusive right, for 15 months, to release SFA2 (SNES) themselves. As far as I know it came out later than the PS1/SS versions so they weren’t successfull.

Well, that really stinks.
I want to get Gamest Mook vol. 75, if any of you have it, would it be too much trouble to ask for scans? It’s on ebay, but for $120, which is awful.

Gigaton Punch vid is funny but doesn’t Mike Bison hate rap music? Oh well it was still nicely done.

Vasili10 transcribed the Necro doujin on this thread some time ago. Not a direct translation since the type is too small for it. Sadly SRK’s search engine sucks, I’ll look for his post later.

Mike Tyson likes rap music. Where does it say that Mike Bison hates it? Thanks.

Scissorsman:

I order stuff from Yahoo Japan via celga.com. Vasilli10 recommended it to me. I’ve only used it twice for two batches of books (in June and July this year), but I haven’t had any problems. They have markup based on the price of the original item, which is understandable, not to mention their markup is fairly reasonable, but the real kicker is the shipping costs, which are murder. But in celga’s defense, they make no money on shipping. They pay the exact same thing for shipping as you, so it’s really unavoidable. On the whole, I recommend them heartily.

re: DnD

Er, didn’t Capcom release Dungeons & Dragons Collection for SS late in its life cycle? According to gamefaqs, yes. Maybe they gave up on the PSX version, and I can’t say I blame them, but the SS version was definitely finished and released. It required the 4-meg ramcart though, and I heard it had slowdown even with the cart.

Street Fighter Collection 2 and Capcom Generations 5.

The manuals or the games?

The games.
If I remember it right, you had to clear SF2:WW to unlock the character’s bios.

Are they archived anywhere on the web or a book?

If memory serves Rap music was his dislike in the SF2 days. When they reprinted Masaomi Kanzaki’s SF2 manga in English that reprinted likes/dislikes on the bottom of the pages they listed Rap music as a dislike there too. But in most SF2 resources I’ve seen Rap music is his dislike. It may be in the old EGM Fighting guide too, I’ll check… I think by SFZ3 they stopped listing it as a dislike. Course to me that doesn’t mean he likes Rap music now unless they say otherwise somewhere…

Well is ther any Japanese source giving that rap info? Is it true that Retu (FF2) is called Retsu in Japan, like the guy from SFI?

The Gamepro SF2 guide actually has two of Mike Bison’s correct dislikes listed for Balrog: fish & math. Nintendo’s SNES SF2T Guide says that Balrog hates losing and rap music. I don’t know of any Japanese source saying his dislikes are besides the plot guide’s list.

About FF2’s Retu, I can’t say for sure but it’s very likely he is called Retsu in Japan. There’s no way to sound out “tu” or “ti” in Japanese; they convert to “tsu” and “chi” respectively.

Hmm. The EGM guide I was referring to, ‘The Ultimate Guide to Fighting Games’ doesn’t list likes and dislikes at all in the bios. Akuma’s birthday does say “??? maybe 48?” like Ultima pointed out though.

Still fairly sure it’s in the English translation of Masaomi Kanzaki’s SF2 manga. I’ll have to wait until the weekend to look for it though when I have to go look up some old X-Men comics for something else. I have a ton of comics lol!

Vasili10’s older posts regarding a translation of the Necro doujin. I had to manually look for them in this thread, figuring out when they took place. Dang the “Search This Thread” function blows, Necro only turns up 8 hits what the… maybe this thread is too big for the function. Anyway just copying and pasting vasili10’s old replies on this thread, first time around -

“sano: Hey, that’s a doujin that’s been sitting at Yahoo Auctions now for I don’t remember how long; no one seems to want it, probably because it’s open bid is 5000 yen. Unfortunately the story of Necro’s origin is in extremely sloppy writing. I can only make out “Illia” here and there. The title’s something like “Are the Cloned Sheep Sleeping Under Electric Blankets?” (That I got from the auction posting) The shorter story previous to the origin story has clearer writing, but still small and blurry. I don’t know, I’ll try some things later.”

And later -

*The extremely abbreviated extrapolated run-down of the Necro doujin. First story’s titled “The Slug’s Life.” Effie asks Necro what’s to eat today, Necro says sandwiches, Effie comments how tasty they are, he says he wants to try making a living in the food preparation business, she apologizes that it’s her fault that his options for the future are as limited as they are, but he says he wants to go for it so that someday they’ll be able to go to Disneyland.

The main story was even tougher to try deciphering, only bits and pieces I could make out. Illia’s friends periodically share hypodermic syringes, Illia says how many times has he said about using them, one guy says there’s a shortage of some kind going on, Illia compares one of the other guys, name might be Miyu, to looking like a pale ghost with using the needles. Illia later spots Effie fallen over face-first, and says to his friends that she needs rescuing. After he takes her in, Illia tries to get her to talk, and manages to get her to say her name, after which she asks him if he can fetch for her the syringe lying on the crate close to them. An agent of Gill’s shows up, says that Effie is an illegal resident here, and says to Illia she is needed back for Gill’s ideals, and Illia tells the agent to stuff it. The agent then talks some more about stuff Effie doesn’t seem to want to hear, and about the usefulness that Illia’s body can prove to be, and then leaves. Something (the agent’s words I’m guessing) convinces Illia to become Necro, Effie goes after him, then the story flashes to Necro and Effie together, Necro says they’ve got to keep moving soon so that Gill won’t easily track them down, Effie tells Necro about her ideal dream, Necro agrees that it’s a wonderful dream, and Effie goes to sleep in Necro’s arms.

Sorry it couldn’t be better, but it’s not the most neatly written doujin around. Hopefully we’ll learn some more as I get and read through more SF3 material."*
